Tricking The Vampire King

‘I became the Vampire King’s chamberlain!’ ‘He thinks I’m a man!?’ ___ The evening that Reina Gomez experienced one of the biggest betrayals in her life was the day her life came to an end. Helping her elder sister, a three times failed author, in her research for her next project had turned out to be the cause of her demise. The efforts she had put in to teach her sister everything that she knew was not repaid with gratitude. The day of the new book’s release brought sorrow to Reina who had high expectations from the project that she had lent her support in. No matter how many times she refreshed the novel’s site, the result was the same. “Where the heck is the BL tag!?” She cried out for answers but to no avail. Her sister who had learned everything there is to know about BL for the new book had done something unexpected. ‘She wrote a frickin vanilla Vampire love story instead!’ She sniffled while finding solace in the one thing that never disappointed her. Her blurry eyes fell on the cover of the novel and her scowl deepened. The petite woman with cotton-candy colored hair surrounded by three breathtakingly handsome men was not something that she was hoping for. ‘Stupid reverse harem.’ She sneered while chugging the contents of the bottle. Her eyes shut that night only to awaken in a different room the next morning. From a drunken daze to panic at what had taken place, Reina soon realized what was wrong. The images flashing across her eyes displayed a life that was not her own. ‘Memories…’ She deciphered the meaning of these images. Staring at the new face in the mirror, Reina blinked those icy blue eyes as a name formed in her mind. ‘Rein Melk… The Vampire King’s chamberlain.’ She repeated the identity of the new body she was in. Was it not enough that she was in a different world, in a different body? She now had to pretend to be the King’s loyal servant. ‘A manservant at that!’ She grimaced as her new life seemed too hard to live. Tricking the Vampire King never was an easy task but doing so while possessing jumbled memories of this body was way harder. __ As days passed, Reina began to adjust to the world, living in the body of Rein Melk. However, she began noticing something strange. ‘Why do these men seem so familiar?’ She wondered while gawking at the three handsome men she was sure to have seen somewhere in the past. The pretty lady with pink hair further brought up a sense of deja vu. ‘Wait…!’ Her eyes widened when it finally clicked. __ With a large chunk of her memories still missing, will she be able to discover everything about the body she possessed? A nameless cannon fodder in the story her sister wrote, was that her fate now? Was the identity of Rein Melk as simple as a servant concealing her true gender or was there more at play here? Numerous questions with answers yet to be obtained. This was the life of Rein Melk, the one tricking the Vampire King.

Paychecks

With too many thoughts on her mind, Reina decided to spend the rest of her day inside her room.

If the King did not call for her then there was no reason for her to appear before him.

Keeping this in mind, the cross-dressing chamberlain laid on her bed and continued determining what she needed in order to live a peaceful life once she escaped from the Palace.

It was obvious that for the duration of her Krev cycle, she would stay at the cottage in the woods.

However, after she recovered from the stress and fatigue caused by her Krev cycle, she would need to find another place to stay.

To achieve this, she needed both money and contacts.

'Money…' She pondered on how she could attain enough money to suffice for the initial period after she escaped from the Palace.

Since she would have to figure out her future income once she was out, she needed enough money to help her survive in the weeks or months she would go without a steady flow of income.

'Come to think of it, does Rein get paid for her job?' She laid on her side as she tried to trigger memories concerning the salary paid by the King if there was any.

While this might be a foolish doubt to have, Reina was curious nonetheless.

After all, she only knew that her predecessor was the one who had chosen to serve the King willingly, even going as far as concealing her true gender just to stay by his side.

She still did not know what had caused Rein to make such a life-altering decision in the past but knew that she had abided by that very decision until the very day she died.

She served the King with loyalty and gave him the utmost respect at all times while making sure that her secret was safe from everyone around her.

'Yet she died for no fault of her own…' Reina grimaced while thinking of the reason why she was able to enter this body and take possession of it.

Shaking her head to toss out the glum thoughts about her predecessor's death, Reina decided to focus on what might help her survive and navigate safely through the dangers lurking in this vicious Palace.

Thus she shut her eyes and tried to trigger any memory she could obtain about Rein's remuneration which would help her plot a better escape route.

Reina's efforts were fruitful once again as her mind was beginning to fill with bits and pieces of information concerning the matter she was curious about.

'That explains why!' She choked at what she had just learned.

The King was the most influential person in the Valanthur Kingdom so it was also obvious that he was also the wealthiest of them all.

He held the title of the wealthiest one, not due to being the Ruler of this land but for a different reason.

Even excluding the treasury belonging to the 'King', his personal financial worth before he had been enthroned was higher than most other citizens of Valanthur.

If the two were combined then his net worth was even higher, resulting in the second richest person in the land being below him by a considerable amount of money.

Therefore, Reina felt her head spin as someone who worked for such a man would surely be paid well.

Not just Rein but every single servant who worked in the Palace was paid a hefty sum of money every month.

Valanthur's banking sector was pretty similar to the one Reina was familiar with in her previous world but there were a few distinct aspects to the concept of finance followed here.

Nevertheless, since most parts were the same, she chose not to focus too much on the minor details for now.

Her aim was to figure out the exact amount Rein received as her salary at the beginning of every month.

Thanks to this determination, she was able to learn everything that she wanted.

Unlike the rest of the servants who worked here, the three aides who personally served the King were set on a different level.

Since they were the ones he had chosen as his own who needed to obey his and his command only, they were superior and incomparable to the rest of the servants here.

Treegan Molt, the butler whom Reina had not yet met, and finally, Rein were the three aides who were assessed on different terms than the rest.

Their salaries were also paid from the King's personal funds whereas the others received their paychecks from the Palace's treasury.

'He was quite generous.' Reina remarked while recalling the information she just grasped.

Rein was the last to join the list of the King's trusted aides, so it was safe to assume that her salary was the least of them all.

However, even with this 'low' income was much higher than what an entire family of aristocrats in Valanthur would need to survive for a whole month.

Her salary went straight to her bank account every month and even if she decided to never work again and live off of this money, she could sustain a lavish lifestyle until the day she died.

This was all thanks to Rein's frugal way of living which had led her to save most of her income in the bank, spending only when she absolutely needed to.

Her predecessor had served the King for eight whole years so Reina was giddy just thinking of the money that could be laying around in her bank account right at this moment.

Reina was without a doubt a rich kid in her previous world and knew that her parents paid their employees a considerable amount of money each month.

'But that money would be peanuts when compared with what the King pays them.' She snickered at this thought before shaking her head.

While she was praising the King's overly generous ways, another thought popped up in her mind.

From what she had learned just earlier, she could discern that the timid Rein seemed to have some more secrets she had been keeping from the rest of the world.

To ascertain the truth behind the memories that were triggered, Reina soon sat up in bed before hopping off altogether.

In the next second, she strode towards the wardrobes mounted on the wall next to her bed.

She had discovered something interesting in these memories and hoped to confirm the validity of it all.

Reina struck gold I guess~
