Chapter 24: Integral Draw

"Exchanging points for martial arts and special abilities is indeed expensive, but this exchange isn't a one-time thing. For example, if you played Spider-Man in an Avengers Alliance movie and used points to activate Spider Silk for him, then, as long as you play Spider-Man again in future Avengers Alliance movies, your Spider-Man character still retains the growth from last time, and the Spider Silk ability can continue to exist." After hesitating for a moment, Sunglasses Woman decided to answer Li Teng, making him owe her a favor.

"So, what you mean is... every character I play in a movie has the potential to develop, and every time I act as him, I can use points to exchange for special abilities, treasures, and facilitate his growth. In the future, every time I play him, his character in the movie will become progressively more powerful and less likely to die off, right?" Li Teng tried to understand.

"Right, you're very smart. That's exactly it," Sunglasses Woman nodded.

"Where did you get your cellphone from? Can it be used to contact your family?" Since Li Teng was going to owe her a favor anyway, he might as well owe her more.

As the saying goes, the more lice you have, the less you itch; the more debts you have, the less you worry.

Otherwise, owing her a favor would be a bad deal.

"That's a different question," Sunglasses Woman reminded Li Teng.

"I'm currently in debt with negative points, so I might as well owe you one more favor. Trust my integrity, I will repay you when the opportunity arises. I am someone who keeps his word, repays debts, and returns favors." Li Teng chuckled a few times.

The others also laughed, recognizing that Li Teng was blatantly shirking responsibilities.

"Alright, I'll answer one more of your questions, but it's the last one. You owe me a favor, and you'd better not die off too soon. Otherwise, this favor would be wasted," Sunglasses Woman said somewhat helplessly.

These days, a debtor can act like a lord, and the person owed a favor is no different. She hesitated for a moment but decided to answer one more question from Li Teng for free, since answering didn't really cost her anything substantial.

Li Teng was still a worthy investment.

If there were a critical situation on set in the future, and Li Teng could help her while ensuring his own safety, she would benefit. Given Li Teng's intelligence, such opportunities were likely to come.

"You actually asked two questions. I can only answer the first one. I got this phone as an additional reward during a promotion performance," Sunglasses Woman answered.

"Can everyone get such a reward during a promotion performance? Can this phone contact the outside world?" Li Teng continued to press Sunglasses Woman with questions.

"That's all! I'm not answering any more of your questions!" Sunglasses Woman refused sternly.

"Alright." Li Teng didn't say anything more, knowing when to stop, as Sunglasses Woman was still hoping to earn points from those questions.

"Can that phone contact your family members?" When it was the old woman's turn to ask, she ended up asking the question Li Teng wanted to ask but hadn't gotten an answer to.

"No," Sunglasses Woman replied.

"Response valid, award 1 point," the director spoke.

The old woman looked somewhat unsatisfied, but seeing Sunglasses Woman's disinterested expression, she didn't pursue further.

Only one question remained to be asked by the young girl.

"Will there be an audience for the movies we shoot?" The young girl couldn't wait to ask her question.

"This... yes," Sunglasses Woman hesitated before answering the young girl.

"Response valid, award 1 point," the director spoke.

"What kind of audience? Like in a movie theater? Can my parents watch my performance?" The young girl continued to ask a few more questions.

"I'm not sure about that. Okay! That's it for today!" Sunglasses Woman refrained from explaining further and quickly declared the question session over.

If Li Teng started to quibble again, should she respond or not?

Next was the drawing for new participants.

There were four newcomers in total.

Li Teng, Glasses Man, White-collar Woman, and the Young Girl.

On-site staff rolled over a lottery machine, and the newcomers took turns participating in the draw.

The machine had a large screen, inside which was a continuously spinning wheel.

It was straightforward, what you land on is what you get.

The odds of winning were just as Gao Fei had mentioned before: a sixty percent chance for newcomers to have all expenses on the island waived, a thirty percent chance to win one hundred points, and only a ten percent chance to win nothing.

Li Teng decided not to compete with others and chose to draw last.

Nobody else wanted to go first either; they all wanted to see how lucky the others were.

To avoid wasting time, the director randomly arranged the order.

Glasses Man went first, followed by the White-collar Woman, then the Young Girl, and finally Li Teng.

The old woman wasn't a newcomer, which didn't surprise Li Teng.

"Looks like I'm quite lucky, wanting to go last and ending up last," Li Teng was very pleased with the director's arrangement.

For Li Teng, he was more hopeful about winning the thirty percent chance of getting one hundred points.

Because he had only spent a total of eighteen points previously, having all expenses waived would only save him eighteen points, which was not worth it. If he could win one hundred points, he would effectively gain eighty-two points, which would be very beneficial for his future development on set.

"When I first came here, I spent over seventy points. It would be amazing to win one hundred points—I could even earn more than twenty points," Glasses Man, the first to draw, appeared quite nervous and excited.

"With so many points spent, if you hit that ten percent, you'd be done for, straight off to the wax museum with that new big brother of yours," Gao Fei mocked Glasses Man a bit.

"It's only a ten percent chance, there's no way I'd be that unlucky!" Glasses Man glared at Gao Fei, annoyed, then turned back to face the lottery screen and pressed the draw button under the director's urging.

The wheel on the screen slowly came to a stop, finally pointing at the largest section, which was the full refund area.

"Ah... it's the full refund! If I had known this would happen, I should've gone on a crazy spending spree as soon as I got on the island, this really isn't worth it," Glasses Man was quite disappointed with the result.

"Too bad, it wasn't that ten percent," Gao Fei looked regretfully.

"I'm glad to disappoint you," Glasses Man retorted to Gao Fei.

After Glasses Man was done, it was the White-collar Woman's turn.

"How many points did you spend, beautiful?" Glasses Man asked the White-collar Woman.

"530 points," White-collar Woman responded to Glasses Man.

"530 points? Isn't the credit limit only 100?" Glasses Man was surprised.
