Last Game

I got ready with a new vest and determination to win this one. Victoria grinned with a giant smile of a victorious ruler. I knew that the chances of her losing her first place would be low in the end. I didn't even consider that. I looked at Gabby and smiled too while Li was beside her getting in a vest of her own.

I looked around as I finished strapping into the vest and looked ready to play the next round. I needed to get in third place. I needed it, and as I knew that Victoria's punishment would be bad. I knew that I would call it the worst, too, since our relationship grew.

I shook my head as the employee yelled out the rules to all of us, and I felt the anticipation around me. I was allowed myself only to relax for a moment. The employee finished and opened the door, and everything came back, and I moved in with the rest of the group into the maze. I moved, and I made sure that I got a good place on the bottom floor.

This time there was no little blonde shit around me like last game. It seems that some teen thought the best way to win was following you around and more or less cheating by putting his damn gun against your sensor. I shook my head and repressed my thoughts about that as I moved just as the game started. I found two people easily, and I quickly turned the corner, tagging two sensors. They both went into the dead status, and I continued to move and found some singletons before finding a group of three. I snagged two before turning back the way I came.

I moved with a giant grin on my face as I remembered all those times we played in school. It was a pass time the group of us did when we were taking a break from schoolwork. I shook my head and noticed a bend where I was coming up, and I found the two I shot not too long ago again. I grinned, and I came out from the corner and tagged the first one after three shots. The second turned to me, and she seemed to miss just as I had before. I finally got her with the fourth attempt to tag her on the chest piece. I grinned as I got another two kills to my name and the man and woman complained to each other as I moved past them.

They decided to move away from me, and the maze was dark in this section. The glow on the next wall told me someone was around the corner. I moved quickly to try and surprise them and grinned as I turned the corner. I got lucky, and their back was turned to me, and I shot a blonde woman's back sensor.

"Dammit!" Victoria announced, turning, and I grinned at her before going back quickly the way I came. There was no way I was sticking around with Victoria in competitive mode. "Dammit, Rick! Come back so I can shoot you in the back as you deserve!" She yelled out, but I could also hear the humor in her tone.

I grinned and moved through the maze. Finding more people, I was in my zone. I loved when I was in this mood, and I moved around another corner and found three more people. I hit two with quick, accurate tags, and I nabbed the third after they missed their first three shots at me.

It was a great game, and I moved around the maze, feeling invincible as I tagged others over and over again. I smiled as I did it, and I knew the game was nearing the end when I ran into some blonde teenager that I had met in the previous game I tagged. I started to move away when he followed me around again, trying to shoot me.

I vest blinked dead as the little teen asshole came back to life and tagged me before I could do the same to him. Frustration at being tagged just at the end without any skill from the other party ripped through me. The vests started to blink in that strobe that told the game was over not even twenty seconds later, and I growled. I knew that the game was going to be over soon, but I was hoping to at least have an unkillable round which gave a lot of extra points on the cards.

It didn't matter at this point, and I hoped that I would at least Score over Gabby. It was going to be close, and I felt that if I got unkillable, I would have been able to pass her score. That little shit, though, stopped that, and I moved through the maze back to where the entrance was following everyone else back.

I reached back and hung my vest before going to grab my scorecard and waiting for the ladies.

I sat down at a table and leaned back on the chair while the ladies started to gather. Victoria joined me first with a slight scowl on her face. "You shot me in the back and ran," She glowered, and I grinned.

"Well, It was too good to pass up since it was the first time I saw you in the maze tonight," I replied, making my grin mischievous. Something told me, though, that I would be paying for that too. Victoria then placed her card in front of me, and I winced, and I knew there was zero chance I was beating her. In the end, I got second, and I sighed. I thought I did really well, but that one in the deaths on Victoria and the two in her placement gave her second place overall.

Gabby sat down next, and her face was one of victory, and she put down her card. It wasn't first but looking at the score; I could feel even Victoria smiling now. "Hehehehe," A charming giggle left Victoria, and I knew that was the chuckle that I feared.

"What?" Gabby said, looking at Victoria.

"Your score, although much lower than Ricks, still allows you to be just above him in the overall score. That means unless Li had a very terrible game. That I am the winner, and Our resident loser will be Rick." Victoria said, her voice in pure gloat mode. I winced, and I heard a fourth person sit down next to us. I heard a slap on the table, and we all looked at Li's scorecard.

I looked it over, and hope hit me as her score was low, and the math went through my head. Simple math wasn't a problem for my head, and Victoria's chuckle became more sadistic while still being charming. "Well, Rick, it seems that you are the loser for tonight. That is just too bad, isn't it?" Victoria asked, and I looked up and glared at her.

"I will get you back for whatever bet it is next time," I told her, the promise in my voice quite evident, and Victoria's smile was a charming as her giggle.

"I am sure you will attempt to," Victoria said, and I heard two sighs of relief from Gabby and Li.

"At least we escaped from being last," Gabby said, looking over to Li.

"I was sweating it when I saw Rick's good score. It was my turn to deal with that Blonde little shit teenager that thought that he could get a good score following one person around. I shook him just before the end of the game and got lucky with a couple of quick tags." Li said, and I could hear the frustration in her voice.

"It was that same little shit that stopped me from getting a deathless round keeping me from getting the points from it," I replied to Li, and she turned to me with raised eyebrows.

"You too?" Li replied, and I stood.

"Me, Too," I confirmed, and I looked at the ladies from a higher standing point. I mocked a glower as I looked at them. "Let's go, It is getting late, and I think I need to drink a little to forget how I lost." I finished.

Victoria giggled, but all the ladies stood up with me, and we started to head toward the exit. "You know that I will not allow you to forget your loss tonight," Victoria whispered in my ear, and I shuddered.

She had something planned, and I knew that I didn't want to know what her plan was.
