Dreams

Reagan was with his sister in the gardens. She was younger, about three years old, so she loved to see the flowers and run a lot. He loved his sister and his parents more than anything in the world.

"See, Earla? This is an azalea. See how pretty she is." Reagan pointed to the rich pink little flower.

"Azalea?" She asked, getting closer. "It is beautiful!"

"Just like you, little Earla." He said and hugged his sister.

Reagan heard a sword being drawn. He frowned and looked back and that's when something warm felt on his face and he , by instinct, closed his eyes.

He was in front of his sister, so she saw nothing, but she screamed when he knocked her to the ground, since he was confused.

"Run, Reagan!" He heard his father saying. Reagan ran a hand over his eyes to clean what had fallen there so he could open his eyes and see. He felt something slimy and, looking up, he saw his father with a sword through his chest. Lachlan's shirt was stained red where the sword was stuck. Reagan looked down and saw his own bloodstained hands.

"Run…" Now, his father's voice was weaker. He had to move. He knew that. looking ahead, he saw that his mother was already on the ground. He couldn't see her body in totality, because of the flowers. But he saw her face and her eyes were static, looking in his direction, lifeless. Her throat had been sliced.

His father then fell to the floor and a man appeared. The man that killed Lachlan, the King of Ghiol. Reagan was an eleven years old boy, learning how to be a proper prince. He was not skilled with the sword, yet. Actually, he didn't like those lessons and tried to skip them as much as he could. Now,he was paralysed and regretting all time lost. His mind was telling him to get up, carry his sister and flee from there. But he could not.

The man was human, he could tell. No, a hybrid. He smelled like a demon, too. And he had fangs. Reagan could tell by the sinister smile the man had on his face. 'Why?' kept popping on Reagan's mind, while he was trying to make his body work and do something. If he didn't, he and Earla would die. His little sister would die, just like his parents.

That thought seemed to bring him back to life.

He got up, grabbed his sister and started to walk backwards.

"Where does the little prince think he is going?" The man asked and licked the sword he had used to kill the king. "Hmmm. Royal blood. Delicious. Let's see how your sister tastes. The little lamb."

Reagan started to run, but the man grabbed his hair, which was about his shoulder's length. Reagan thought his throat would be ripped too, but the man released his grip. Reagan took the opportunity and started to run, without looking back. He held Earla close to his chest, to prevent her from seeing. But she was crying a lot.

He heard someone running behind him, but his legs could not go faster. He looked back and saw a familiar face. Ryder. The head of the royal guard.

"Prince, this way!" The man said and Reagen felt relieved. Ryder was on his side. Ryder was there to save him and Earla. He followed the demon and they were soon in front of two horses.

Ryder helped him get on one of those horses and helped Earla to be accommodated in front of Reagan.

"Can you ride on your own?" He asked Reagan.

Reagan nodded. If there was one thing he liked, it was to ride. He felt free. His wings were not ready yet for him to fly, so the horse helped a lot.

"Good. I'll be right behind you, okay? We need to go to The Great River and pass through it. That way, we will be inside Ùisdean's territory and King Hamish will help.

Reagan only nodded again. He could not talk.

"I want mommy!" Earla said, crying.

"Not yet, little. Let's go for a ride now. Your mommy asked you to take care of your brother. Can you?" Ryder asked the little girl. That gave her a sense of responsibility.

"Yeah."

"Good girl!" Ryder looked at Reagan and nodded.

Reagan woke up, sweating profusely. He didn't have that kind of dream in a while now. He sat up in bed and ran a hand through his hair. Maybe it was because he had not spoken to his sister in a while.

Walking to the balcony, Reagan took a look outside, feeling the cold breeze hit his bare chest, as he always slept in his undergarments. Then, he saw a small figure near a tree. A blond woman, with her back to him and she was, without a doubt, a human slave.

"They never learn…" He whispered to himself. Normally, he wouldn't bother to solve the issue himself, calling for someone else to deal with the humans, but since it was late and he needed a distraction… why not?

But before he could move, the figure just vanished. He frowned, because he was so distracted to the point of losing a 'prey'? Shooking his head, he went to the library.
