Cu continued his story as more people gathered.
the man was infamous among the group of sorcerers.
It was said that the monsters he targeted were driven by their lust for money.
And was known for demanding the greatest share of the spoils, leaving his allies short-changed!
Every time they were resting after a long tiring adventure Carnatux would badger Geoff about his debt.
"Better pay quick, before the interest gouges at ya! Har har har!"
Again Reonika growled out loud swearing and promising to chop the man like the 'greedy pig' he was!
many of the listeners agreed and were willing to join the girl's 'crusade' hehe.
Geoff followed through to quickly end his debt and be done with this man.
The nest place they arrived at was at the plains of Olympia it was infested by a horde of goblins that brought trouble to the villages nearby.
There were multiple times where Carnatux really seemed like he cared for nothing other than wealth.
one of the things he loved to say when counting his coins was.
"no fortune is ever enough."
Geoff thought to himself.
they were both sorcerers.
A sorcerer worth his salt can make a small fortune. it just depends on how low he is willing to stoop.
but still, he was not satisfied.

the question Geoff had when seeing him act like this was.
"what fueled his insatiable lust for wealth?"
After dealing with the horde of goblins, they proceeded deeper into the plains before hiding in the shadows when their target's location was spotted.
Carnatux smiled widely as he 'admired' the beast while sharing his thoughts with Geoff.
"A pretty impressive beast, eh?"
Some people wield sorcery to satiate their lust for wealth, blindly melding with random gold trinkets to grotesque ends.
Countless people have suffered this fate, transforming into monsters, w-they faced one such creature then, as similar ones scattered the land.
the nickname these monsters had were 'slum slimes'
"har har har har! we're in the money today!"
Carnatux cracked a conniving smile, and set after the monster.
It was a long battle... before they finally defeated the monster and it changed back into a sorcerer.
"This one was drowning in debt."
Carnatux knew their target.
He knew this avarice slime when he was still a person and how he devolved into this state.
with the impression the people had of Carnatux at this moment, the orange-haired munchkin was already accusing the man of being the cause of his debt out loud.
So Cu gave the girl a light chop to make her go quiet before she began rubbing the spot with light tears at the edges of her eyes as Reonika now stared at him full of grievances.
So Cu gave her a verbal warning while shaking his index finger back and forth like a father scolding his child.
"either let me tell the story to the end or I will stop it here, ok?"
she nodded albeit reluctantly and sat near him again before getting some light revenge on Cu by pinching his arm as he cleared his throat.
Cu had a cramped smile as he attempted to ignore the light payback of the loli before resuming the story.
the former slime couldn't bear to see his wife and children in poverty, as the man loved his family and thought that money would bring them happiness, but that love soon transformed into unbridled greed.
Carnatux reflected plaintively.

"the world can do without more greedy wretches like me."
those words caught the attention of the listeners both in a good way and in a bad way as it was strange on how the man worded it.
Carnatux did what he had to do but not what Geoff expected.
there was one more job to do according to Carnatux as he said.
"deliver the contractor the news."
it was then Geoff realized that they were hired guns then again he still had little choice but to follow.
"the poorer areas produce more than their fair share of monsters!"
these people around understood the meaning as being poor that makes people do some things that stupid or just brutal in the face of poverty as they all had experience in it one way or another.
the same old story.
As a person that was facing difficult circumstances tends to be easily seduced by material greed.
His next words were how can one put it... bizarre.

The listeners all frowned at these words as the impression the man had given them repeatedly they didn't expect him to utter such words!
they were all curious now what lies next in this story.
what kind of place were they destined to go to?
They arrived at a town of ruins not shown on any map.
A family greeted Carnatux.
A child and his mother.
the child held a fruit that Geoff was quite familiar with... the very same one that led him to be dragged along by Carnatux!
the were some gasps in the crowd and including the little rascal that seemed to comprehend something.
Carnatux patted the child on the head as he spoke.
"Haha! don't worry, your father will be back before long."
The family was the contractor!
the very family of the man that had become the avaricious slime.
Carnatux saved him, because the family had requested it. And when he did the father could come home.
Carnatux gave the family their entire stash of valuables, all the gold, and trinkets that they pirated.
the next words of the fat man caused Geoff to stumble.
"This is repayment for the fruit, this man ate it!"
Helping the poor. it was preventative so that perhaps the next monster would never be. One man's way of ridding the world of monsters.
After letting the man's actions sink in Cu then claimed afterward.
"I'm sure that he is still out there digging for gold!"

And he is absolutely right, the end.
the people had some interesting reactions proud, angry, sad and even crying!
Hell, some of the people that were angry at the man for being so greedy either curse him or apologized at least his reputation wasn't as bad anymore.
they then gave Cu a round of applause before going on their merry way although the kids that were listening somehow made the man promise to tell another story.
Cu was happy that his message came across as he wanted them to remember that not all sorcerers were bad although now a certain young girl was looking at him so intently, that it was making him uneasy.
when everyone else was gone leaving just the two of them there Reonika dropped the question that Cu was somewhat afraid to answer as the girl felt like a long lost child of his/Geoffs.
"Mister, are you a Sorcerer?"
