Sitting bolt upright, she gasped and looked around. She was panting. Her heart was pounding in her chest. What was going on? Where was she? CHAPTER 8: The Assassin Escapes

Togon shuddered when he thought of the assassination attempt the previous night. Gabe, the assassin had said her name was. Togon couldn't shake off the feeling that the assassin was still running amok in the palace.

He was right. The guards came in and informed him of their failure to catch the assassin.

"How could you be unable to catch her! She is just a kid!" Togon yelled furiously.

"We are very sorry. We have failed to do our duty. Please punish us," a guard said and got onto his knees. The rest of them followed suit.

"Although the she is young, she's extremely quick on her feet and skillful. We suspect that she is a trained assassin who was trying to kill you last night. However, she didn't seem to be carrying weapons," another guard continued.

"Then what are you still doing here? Go and find her!" Togon ordered.

The guards left his room in a flurry of stomping boots and crashing armor.

Now left alone, Togon noticed a big black object from the corner of his eye. With a closer look, he realized that it was the black bundle that the assassin was carrying on her back before. She must have left it here in a hurry to get away. Togon went to take a closer look. Alarm bells rang in his head as he realized that it might be a trap that the girl left in his room to kill him, but he ignored them.

Approaching the huge object, he prodded at it with his finger. It was made of a material he never felt before, and it felt like it contained something. It reminded him of the magical bracelet he found earlier, another strange object that he had yet to discover the function of. Seeing how the assassin carried it around, it might contain her secret weapons. Everything about the assassin was strange, the way she dressed, the strange items she possessed. If he managed to find a way to retrieve the items that the object contained, he might be able to find out more about her and why she was trying to kill him.
