The Ways: Path of the Enigma

I tread into the deepest, darkest secrets of the universe. Amidst the storm I listen to the voice of reason. My path is not held down by anything else but myself. For I am my own body, mind and soul. My will shall penetrate all of doubts and fears I face. All life shall know my own name. ----------------------------&&&&---------------------------- Currently on heavy editing. This is my first book and I am really eager to make my story clean, not perfect but acceptable. So please if you have any inputs, insights or advices you are free to do so. Please forgive my grammar too as english is my third language. My vocabulary is limited and I consider writing this as a learning experience. I do research on my words a lot and will use new ones if necessary. Thank you and have a good time reading. Approximately 1500-1800 words per chapter. Story is slow-paced.(maybe) If you guys want to have a discord chat maybe you could strike me up and say it to my face. (I'm lonely so plz...) Also if you aren't lazy to read the Prologue here it is: In the beginning, loud screams and wails echoed throughout the void, supernatural powers spread out the lands and in turn, evolved the surrounding creatures into monstrosities that devoured and prey on the weak. Humans and other intellectual species hid in the dark, fearing what they may become if they stand face to face with the horrors across the lands. Though the time that passed through the lands made the beings impatient and tried to devise a way to kill the horrors. They made tools, crafted plans and waited. They had succeeded and from the corpse of the first horror they brought down brought blessings to the people making them have the morale and ingredients to make artifacts which was made to kill the monsters. They had brought down many monsters with their breakthrough and made a place for themselves in the surface. Humans were the first civilization to fight the horrors whilst the elves cower in the protection of the tree's leaves and the Dwarves hid deep into the crevices. Though scared they also found a way to fight the monstrosities in their own traditional way. Until one day the age of the supernatural came. Powers came to be and their users brought changed to the lands, exiling the horrors into the Forsaken Lands as they claimed the surfaces for their own. The First Emperor of Humanity brought to light the spark of humans, whilst the First Elven King revitalized the lands. The First Dwarven Enchanter crafted legendary artifacts. Finally bringing the Brilliance and Pale Era. These are the Recorded Legends in Grandia Lands, some legends were left untold as the First Rulers suddenly vanished. However people had already forgotten about it only to be told as storytimes for children but there is a prophecy that they would return, and that is the day the whole lands will end.

Chapter 16: Alchemy.

The next class was postponed due to the disastrous event that destroyed the halls, people specialized in cleaning did their jobs by picking up the shattered glasses with a magical vacuum called "Tucker" which was kinda funny if I think about it. Anyways, without anything to do for the whole day all the students in the second floor was addressed to go home and rest while the academy was fixing the damages.

Soon, news of the academy being attacked was spread through the capital. Nobles and commoners now question the academy "IF" it was a safe place for children to study in.

The academy gave an appropriate response to the turmoil to restore their reputation by; tightening the security inside, hiring clean individuals to operate through the halls and even buying the latest security tools that gave off an alarm if any signs of destruction occured.

They also compensated all the children affected by the event by giving them 15 belets each to the 1500 students in the first year.

This was the first recorded event that brought forth severe changes to the academy—Also a miraculous one that had zero casualties due to a teacher reacting quickly to the intruder. Rumors had said that it was because of a certain student however it was considered unlikely due to how uncanny it was.

I laughed at the news of myself being taken as uncanny by a supernatural world. I mean I'm not the first in many right? or maybe I am but I don't care. What I do care about is I smelled a conspiracy hiding behind the Capital.

Who was the kidnapper and the people colluding with him? Who were the children he kidnapped? Were they in anyway talented children? exceptional children who had a unique talent? Were they being taken to be brainwashed and used to serve an enemy? Also why is my dad being a subject of hate amongst these people? First was a noble, the creepy researcher and now a kidnapper who yelled my noble name with seething hate.

I am intrigued at this kind of stuffs however I can't do anything right now best thing to do is handle whatever fate throws at me.

There were a lot of other questions like if I was possibly targeted because I involve myself with the researchers? or maybe it was due to Yirene's past? There were a lot and I won't hurt my head trying to think about it all.

Maybe I could hasten my plans though, rather than buying an alchemy set and learning how to use it. I think it's better to hire an alchemist. Saves a lot of time however the secret formula for curing anti-Gyryotes would be expose but I don't think that's an issue to be honest, people doesn't even know that there was a pill that makes Giryotes to avoid them so I think I could work with that.

Packing the stocked ingredients into my bag, I changed into my outside clothes before going out of the school. The guards there was suspicious of me however I explained to them that I was going to the alchemist association and they decided I wasn't worth the trouble.

It took me an hour to get to the building and what greeted my view was the factory-like setting; smokes billowing at the top, a pungent smell lingering in the air, and the utter gloominess that covered the place. People prance about inside like addicts, though I assume that it was due to the exposure to a lot of alchemy did that to them.

"Hello, youngling. What makes your day here?"

"I would like to hire an alchemist at your service, a cheap one but has higher succeed rates than others please."

"You seem to be knowledgeable about our business here, or did you hear it from other places?"

"I'm not obligated to answer your question, so please."

"25 belets, go to lab 8."

"Thanks!"

Going inside I saw the interior of the place, it was all black, nothing colorful except a few pictures of famous alchemist. I saw a lot of doors that indicated a lab like lab 1, lab 2 and lab 3. I chose to go directly to lab 8.

I knocked and waited for a moment before someone opened the door inside.

"You wanna get things done?" He had brown hair and a pair of blue eyes, he looked a bit scrawny probably malnourished and the thick black circles on his eyes said the state he was in.

"Yeah, I got the goods. Now it depends on your skills, here have some bread. I'll set up the equipments. Where'd you place them?"

"Over there at the chest, you sure you're not going to break anything? I'll charge you for every broken piece." He said while biting into the bread.

"Don't worry about that, I have the necessary knowledge however I lacked the experience so I'll just need to use your experience then you'll use my knowledge got it?"

"Sure boss." I prepared the set to the wide table at the middle of the room, it was quite greasy and not maintained well due to the scratches it had. However it won't be worn down by one or two uses probably a year would however that was not my problem.

"Nice set up you got there, you sure it ain't outdated? I prolly think you are one of those competitors of ours however your personality doesn't suit that."

"I was sort of an apprentice of my mother before she died, never really held a set like these before however I did memorize the set up and ingredients she uses."

"Alright. That's good enough no point wasting time so let's do this." The alchemist with troubled steps got in front of the alchemy set and looked at me.

"Do the herbs first" I said.

"First ingredient?"

"Riverherb."

"Second?"

"Paratree"

"Third?"

"Yallowsap"

"Fourth?"

"Purleza"

"Anymore herbs?"

"Terrasidea"

"That the last?"

"Yeah."

"Powders now."

"Powders used?"

"Rabbit foot and mushcaps. Just pour it in they have the necessary portion."

"Now the last, the catalyst?"

"Lafergera Blood, then let it simmer."

"Scary monster, I do wonder what you want to get from this."

"None of your business."

"Okay...you need to probably go away now I'm gonna begin the alchemy." I agreed with him and continued to watch from the side.

He performed a simple movement by tapping his wrist with his fingers them moving it slowly to his palm. The Giryotes flowed through it and when he released it light particles spread through the ingredients making it feel fresh and alive again. The spectacle that happened was unlike how the memories Yirene had done it. Whilst my mother used a ritualistic circle to commune with the gods for an exchange. The alchemy that they've done here were simply giving life to the essences of the ingredients.

The man then prepared the beaker by pouring in water and gesturing his fingers a little to produce an ember at the tip which he used to lit up the burner. He then poured in the herbs into an extractor that crushed the herbs into producing an extract which he quickly stored inside a small glass. He waited for the bottle to boil and then poured inside the powders, before stirring it for a minute then pouring the extract next and when the beaker released a grassy smell he finally poured out the last ingredient. It was the blood.

He stirred it for 30 minutes before taking a tong which he used to handle the beaker, he then poured the contents into an empty bottle.

Once I saw the finished product I was amazed to see the beauty of alchemy, the potion that was dark red however there were bits of pure light inside.

"Alright, this is it. It is an 80% purity from what I can see. I think that's good enough."

"I'll take it, here have 3 belets consider it as a tip."

"Thank you for your patronage boss."

"Is it fine if I drink this here?"

"As long as you don't vomit on the floor, yeah."

"That's manageable." I didn't waste time and drank the potion. It tasted like an expired food, and it made me wanna vomit however I fought off the feeling. The man looked at me surprised by my actions however he didn't question it.

"Thanks again. I'll be going now then."

"Come again, bring a lot of belets next time."

I decided to go back home to test the effectiveness of the potion, he said that it had 80% purity however how much would it purify the anti-Giryotes inside of me?

Wait, I'll should probably do this at Mr. Tetuclise's class. I don't want to prematurely explode due to excitement. Though that doesn't mean I couldn't do the stances right?

From what I've heard by training my classmates about stances, they said that it made them feel the Giryotes stick to their bodies. I had a theory that it depended on the style of breathing or muscle coordination that made the Giryotes flock to them.

I wanted to try the stances however, I felt slightly dizzy...my stomach began to rumble and I felt my ass giving way. Fucking Diarrhea.

I ran quickly to the toilet and shut the door close.

[REDACTED] sounds echoed through the room.
