Chapter 18: Jealousy
Casey didn’t have her license anymore. That had been lost with everything else that was in her wallet. That didn’t stop her from driving Lavinia when they went out for the day’s errand.
Lavinia had been out of it all night. Casey had to wake her up this evening so that she could eat lunch. Even now, she was dozing in the passenger seat.
Casey didn’t mind. She had been feeling guilty ever since the revelation that Lavinia’s condition was her fault. She knew Lavinia would tell her that she didn’t need to feel guilty but it would be a lie.
Casey hadn’t given Lavinia her blood and Lavinia hadn’t taken it from her. Which was why they had to go shopping. That made Casey’s stomach churn too.
They were heading back to the place Lavinia had bought her. This time, Casey knew that she didn’t need to be afraid. It didn’t stop from her feeling terrified, though.
Lavinia stirred.
“Casey,” she said roughly, “thank you for driving.” Lavinia rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
