Nathan only had one thing to do, and that was a man of his own. He had to depend on his capabilities and build his empire. Working for Laura would only label him as a weak husband.
Laura was powerful, she had her empire. If he continued following her around. People would always disrespect him.
“Do you want me to come with you?” Laura asked, feeling concerned. She woke up early to help Nathan get ready. After a week of thinking about the offer, Bernardo gave him. Nathan finally agreed. It was morning, and he was getting ready to go to the Harrison company.
“I don't think so… I'm okay,” Nathan said as he chose the wristwatch he would wear. Like Laura suggested, he went for a slim-fit navy-blue suit. Some Oxford shoes and he was good to go.
“You can take Robert… I don't need him for now,” Laura said while helping him with his necktie. Nathan smiled and felt relaxed knowing Laura was supporting him. Despite everything, the woman turned out to be a good wife.
“Sweetheart, that's so generous of you…but will you be okay?” Nathan said that once Laura was done fixing his tie and helped him wear his watch.
“You require him more than I do…we don't want Bernardo trapping you….please be careful,” Laura said and cupped his face. Nathan smiled and held her face with both hands. Laura wasn't joking, even though Bernardo was a good man. She was aware of the greedy directors in Bernardo's company. So many people were eyeing the glorious CEO seat. Bernardo was sick, everyone thought he would die any time soon, and all eyes were on who would take charge of everything.
“You know I'm not so careless…sweetheart, I'll take care of myself,” Nathan whispered while leaning close to her. Laura felt a little shy when he ran his thumb over her lips.
“I don't think so…just be careful and don't trust anyone… Robert will be the only person to trust… If you require legal help, then Alejandro will help,” she said hoping he understood what she was trying to say to him… Nathan arched his brows questionably.
“Alejandro, since when did you stand addressing him by his first name?” Nathan said with a frown, Laura sensed jealousy glimmering in his eyes. The joy she felt whenever Nathan was overprotective.
“He's Alejandro, isn't he?” Laura said and prepared to move away, but Nathan grabbed her arm and slammed her to him. Laura smirked when he slipped his arm around her waist and tightened his grip.
“My sweet wife, you know I hate to make you sad…but don't call that man by his first name…you are only mine,” he murmured against her ear and teased to bite her earlobe when Laura pushed him away.
“That's enough, you are getting late,” she said, breathing, knowing he was about to start acting naughty. Nathan chuckled while shaking his head and went to get his phone from the table.
“Take care…” he said with a playful wink, but Laura frowned and prepared to hit the shower. He was going somewhere important and busy trying to act all naughty.

Nathan was a little nervous. He had Robert with him and a driver Laura appointed to drive him around. The entire time, his eyes were on his iPad. Scrolling through and learning more about Bernardo and his company.
“He owns quite many buildings…if there's a project competition going on…he always wins the most important contracts,” Robert, who was sitting in front of the driver, said. Nathan already knew about that
In the past, he never bothered about Bernardo and his assets. But now Nathan was beginning to wonder how Bernardo owned so much. Yet, he was just an ordinary man. As Laura said, so many men could be eyeing Bernardo's wealth. Keeping that aside, Nathan didn't worry much.
15 minutes later they arrived. Nathan did not expect to find something so different. It was a normal large skyscraper. The car drove in and to his surprise, he saw a few men in suits standing outside by the entrance as if waiting for someone.
“Seems the old man is serious about this,” Robert said in awe as his eyes scanned the place. It was glorious and spacious. The men lined up in suits by the entrance as if waiting for a president.
Immediately the car came to a halt by the entrance, one of the men came forward and opened the car door for Nathan. He stepped out elegantly.
“Welcome sir,” the men choruses when Nathan stood before them with Robert standing beside him. Nathan only nodded, not sure why was happening.
“Good morning sir… I'm Eric, the general manager…you are welcome sir,” one of the men in a red suit, tall with slightly blonde hair, stepped forward and said with a smile. Nathan nodded as they shook hands. He wasn't old but a young man, charismatic and seemed easygoing.
“Thank you,” Nathan said as they guided him inside. The other men followed suit as they walked to wherever he was being taken to.
“We are eagerly awaiting to have you join us… Mr Harrison said so much about you,” the man kept saying, and all Nathan did was nod as they walked down the quiet passageway after taking an elevator to the tenth-fourth floor.
“The main conference room is this way…we have three in the company in case of emergencies," Eric explained to Nathan, showing him the various offices and departments. Soon they came to a pair of glass doors. Eric 9ushed the doors open only to reveal a large conference room
It was empty, but Nathan found some men and women seated. Immediately he entered, all of them turned toward the entrance. Of course, they seemed surprised.
Murmurs rose in the room as Nathan was being guided to his seat. He spotted Bernardo sitting in his chair with his assistant standing beside him.
“Welcome, Nate…please have a seat,” Bernardo said with a smile and Nathan settled down. Robert was not new to this kind of gathering. He had attended so many board meetings to know. It would be heated.
“Thank you, a pleasure to meet you all,'Nathan said politely as he took his seat and adjusted his suit. All eyes were on him. Some old men looked unhappy to see him.
“Ladies and gentlemen, meet Nathan Dawson…he'll be our new chief executive officer" Bernardo said through the mic once everyone had settled down. Nathan turned to look at him immediately after Bernardo said that. Not just him, but everyone in the large room seemed perplexed by such sudden words.
“Mr. Harrison…what's all this,” one of the men said as he rose to his feet. Those around him nodded in agreement.
“How can a stranger come out of nowhere and get a position without the board sitting down and discussing it,”
“This can't be done… Mr Harrison, do you take us for fools,”
Voices erupted in the room, and they were all complaints about Nathan climbing the ladder to the top when he just arrived. Of course, Nathan remained calm. It looked like the board already knew what was to happen. Because their reactions seemed suspicious.
“Why do I feel like…someone tipped them to object," Robert leaned down and whispered in Nathan's ear since the room was heated with noise and protests. Nathan glanced over his shoulder and remained still. On the other side, Bernardo was waiting for the men to finish their protest because he was in charge and no one would even dare object to his decision.
It was final, Nathan was responsible for the construction company as well as other small companies he had shares in. Before he could pass his final judgment. The door to the conference opened, getting everyone's attention, and a man walked in.
Nathan didn't recognize the man, but he was a man dressed elegantly in a blue suit. Turning to Bernardo, he seemed to know I'm.
“Son?” Bernardo said questionably once the dean joined them.
“Father, I can't accept the decision you are about to make…as your son, I'm here to take my rightful place,” Dean said sternly as his gaze shifted from Bernardo then to the imposter who was about to take what wasn't his. Only then did Nathan realize who the man was. It was Bernardo's adopted son. Just the way he was looking at him showed how unhappy he was.
