Chapter 26 Renovation

6th, Shravana, 1965

Ortson habitually woke up at 6 a.m. not for exercise but gearing up to renovate his house.

Ortson has imagined it all in his head how his renovated apartment will look.

Due to the apartment having only one room and one bathroom, Ortson decided he is going to make smart furniture to place inside the room.

So that the room will have the look of future minimalistic.

Ortson decided to renovate his room because he needed a dark room for developing his photography films.

'I am going to raise the bed up in the air and fix it to the side wall,  and the space below the bed will be used as a dark room.'

'I should not have asked to delivery man to bring the wooden planks up to the fourth floor, I should have left them in the clearing in the middle of the apartment complex.'

Sigh!

'Nothing can be done now, I just need to work in the hall, But first I need to take measurements of my room for planning.'

Ortson measures the room with measuring tape and design a blueprint inside his notebook. Next, he designs the furniture he needs for his adobe.

Ortson pulls the wooden planks out in the hall, and start marking them with specific measurement needed with the help of tape.

After marking the planks with specific measurement Ortson used his trusty DIY formulated spell Laser to cut it down the planks in required measurement.

While Ortson was concentrating on his work someone approached him from behind.

"Ort GM."

Ortson raises his head and notices Cherry behind him.

"Good morning, Cherry. And sorry for the mess in the hall, I will try to finish as soon as possible."

"So what are you doing?"

"I am renovating my room."

"Ort, let me help."

"Are you sure, won't it be bother to you."

"Renovating your own room that's sound like fun. I also want to learn and renovate my room too."

Ortson smiled and gave in.

"Then thank you for the help. And when you renovate your house I will help you."

The Ortson started instructing Cherry for her help.

Ortson alone could not have cut the planks alone, some one need to hold them in place unless accidents may happen.

Ortson who only knows 'DIY' of crafting, Cherry with superior physical abilities and was a very big help to him.

If not for Cherry Ortson might have hammered his own hand with the hammer.

While Ortson and Cherry were hammering nails on wooden planks both of them did not notice another door on the 4th floor opening.

"Why is their so much noise in the morning?"

Ortson and Cherry raise their head and notices Selena their in house musician.

"Hey Selena, GM."

"GM to you too, Cherry."

"So, what's happening?"

"Ort here is renovating his room, and I am helping."

"I don't know much about carpentering, but I love to carve, let me carve some wood."

"How should I show my thanks for your assistance Selena."

"We are neighbors Ortson, if we do not help each other who will. But if you insist treat us to a drink."

"Right Ortson should treat us."

Ortson smiled wryly and agreed to the condition.

The previous bed was remodeled and raised and attach to the left wall of the room with the help of hook and chains, and there was enough space on top of the bed for Ortson so that he will not hit his head on the celling.

The space bellow the bed would transformed into dark room to develop photos in future.

Below the bed on the left side was turned into cabinet with many drawers, and the right side was turned into a wooden moving wall by attaching sliders and wheel.

Due to Ortson's engineering skills and knowledge he was able to model the space that it had enough space to walk around.

The front of the bed was draped in a thick curtain so that no light can penetrate inside the dark room.

Now on the outside of right wall many drawers and a foldable counter top was attached for kitchen counter top.

'Always eating outside have become hard on my budget.'

And the extra remaining wooden planks were turned into foldable chairs for guest when they will visit his adobe in future.

The smart furniture were full of functionality and Selena carved has carved pentagons and hexagon on the surface of the furniture according to Ortson's request.

The Furniture were coated with wooden polish and left to dry.

"It will take 20-30 minutes for them to dry, Cherry and Selena thank you for your help, If I did it alone I would have needed 3-4 days to finish them."

"What are you saying Ortson, most tiring job is to cut the planks according to measurement. Your formulated spell Laser is great at cutting things."

"Selena even you magic spell which you used to sand the woods was very innovative."

"I learned them from my father who was a carpenter. He was in a business of making furniture and musical instruments for aristocrats. During one his business venture he got the magic spell as a show of appreciation."

"Wow! Then he must be a awesome craftsman, that even a noble is showing his appreciation."

Selena has nostalgic look in her eyes.

"Yeah those were good times. Wait for a second."

Selena goes back to her room and returns with her guitar.

Selena holds the guitar in place and start playing a soothing melody.

To Ortson and Cherry's surprise from the first chord Selena struck, a gentle wind started blowing around them.

The gentle cold breeze was very refreshing to the three of them who were all sweating due to all the labor they did.

The wind picked up with the tempo of the guitar's playing, the wind started to form little tornado picking up all the debris, dust and wooden chunks from the floor and thrown outside from the balcony of the room.

Ortson picks up his camera and clicks a photo of Selena playing guitar, and Cherry listening and nodding to the tune with her eyes close.

The other residents of the apartment complex also stop doing whatever they were doing for a moment to listen the melody in the air.
