New Sharingan?

Namaru, once back in the village, Shikadai calls Namaru and Daichi together, before having a conversation with them both.

"Namaru. Daichi. I am assigning you both to a new Jonin while I help train Shikazuru. He will accompany the two of you on missions."

Someone walks up behind Daichi and Namaru and taps them on the shoulder. Daichi jolts and turns around, looking at the man in shock, but Namaru stays calm and speaks.

"I was wondering when you were going to show yourself. You know, for a Jonin, I'd think you were more stealthy, but I guess not."

The man responds in a teasing tone.

"Not everyone has your unique dojutsu, Namaru. We can't all detect multiple chakra signatures at once. Oh, by the way, that's no way to greet your brother."

Namaru, remaining calm, teases Daichi.

"You are correct, Inaga. However, I'd expect a descendant of the Hyuga clan, one with the Byakugan, nonetheless, to be able to sense multiple chakra signatures. He almost looks like he's gonna pee himself."

Daichi gives Namaru a side-eyed glance and grunts before turning to Shikadai and speaking.

"Whatever. What's our mission?"

Inaga stops Shikadai and places a hand on Daichi's shoulder before speaking, himself.

"I have all of the mission info. We're doing a reconnaissance mission in the Land of Wind. The Kazekage requested Leaf Genin, specifically, because he sent his own Genin to other villages in the other lands. It's a trust exercise between the 5 Kage and the lands they rule. They send their Genin between the other nations to see if they will honor the peace treaty between the lands and to test their skill level. Lord Kazekage wanted Namaru, specifically, so we decided to throw you in there, as well, Daichi, to use this as a form of bonding exercise. I have a feeling you're a better team than you think. Now, enough chitchat. Let's go."

Namaru nods and Daichi rolls his eyes, but not without a comment.

"Ugh...I hate working with the biggest showoff in the Leaf..."

Inaga turns back to Daichi, hearing the comment, and replies with a smirk.

"Then you're absolutely going to hate me. Now, if we are through with comments from the peanut gallery, we have a mission to do as well as a 3 day journey ahead of us. Keep up or you'll fall behind...not just in skill, either..."

Daichi shuts up and follows Inaga and Namaru, but doesn't stop groaning. They travel until night falls and stop to camp until the morning. Inaga goes to set up the tents and Namaru stops him. Looking puzzled, Inaga asks Namaru why.

"I wanna try a new jutsu I've been working on."

Inaga shrugs.

"Alright, little bro. Go for it."

Namaru starts weaving a series of hand seals that look oddly familiar to Inaga. Snake → Rat → Ox → Ram → Snake. Completing the series, Namaru slams his hands into the ground.

"Wood Style: Four-Pillar House Jutsu!"

Out of the ground erupts a perfectly-formed wooden house. Inaga and Daichi stare at it in disbelief. Daichi is the first to say anything after several minutes.

"I knew you could use Wood Style, but since when can you build a house instantly??"

Namaru shrugs with the best response he can.

"A while back, I went to old man Yamato and he gave me a bunch of wood style scrolls that he wrote himself. I took them home and started to study them and started to pretty easily master the more basic ones, so I moved on to something more advanced: full structures. Had the hand seals memorized from this one in just a few minutes, but never had the chance to test it in the field, until now that is."

Inaga places a hand on Namaru's shoulder.

"This is really impressive. You're really shaping up to look like Great-Uncle Itachi. Another prodigy arises from the great Uchiha clan."

Daichi kind of butts in.

"Sure, just say something else that'll go straight to his head. He already knows he's powerful. He doesn't need further confirmation..."

Inaga shoots Daichi a death stare and is about to say something before Namaru stops him.

"It's okay, Inaga. Daichi is just speaking his mind and he's right. I shouldn't be given so much praise, especially when there's someone right in front of me who would still beat me. I get treated as the strongest ninja in the village, but many forget that my journey as a ninja is just beginning, same as Daichi, and that there will be people stronger than us. He could get strong too. I mean, look at his father and grandfather. They're both insanely strong. He could rival me if given enough time. I really believe that."

Daichi looks at Namaru, both shocked and touched at the same time.

"Uh, thanks, I guess? I'm, uh, not used to praise."

Namaru looks over at him, a small smile on his face.

"It's no problem, really. You were being honest about your opinion toward me, so I was doing the same with you."

Namaru reaches into his pouch and pulls out 4 paper tags. He counts them and hands one to Inaga and one to Daichi. Then, Namaru creates a shadow clone and hands one to it.

"Now if we're done being all heartfelt and gross, I need you guys to place these tags to align with mine so we form a square around the house. It'll stop enemies from detecting the house by creating a barrier around it. Anyone outside the barrier won't see or sense anything."

The other 3 nod (the shadow clone included), and disperse to place their tags. Once everyone is in position, they slap the tags against some trees and the house seemingly disappears, a grove of trees taking its place.

Over in Daichi's area, he's having trouble with the tag sticking since he chose such a rough tree.

"Crap, I can't get it to stick. Wait, I have an idea."

Daichi pulls out a kunai and sticks the tag through the tree that way, making sure not to pierce the seal on the tag, otherwise it would be rendered useless.

"Now, I gotta go meet with the others."

Back inside the barrier, Namaru explains what the tags are, because they clearly aren't normal.

"Those are no regular paper tags. They're genjutsu tags of my own creation that, when placed in the right pattern, cast a genjutsu around what's inside the formation. So instead of the area looking empty like it was before, it looks like a grove of trees, which makes us much harder to detect."

Inaga looks pleased.

"Very smart, Namaru. Don't give any chance of the enemy finding us."

Daichi chimes in.

"An empty area would look like the perfect place to hide a house, but if there's a bunch of trees, the area is completely hidden. Awesome work."

Namaru shrugs.

"It's nothing, really. Now, let's get inside so we can rest."

Inaga and Daichi nod and everyone walks inside to get some sleep. However, during the night, Daichi's kunai gets pulled out of the tree by a mysterious ninja. It seems someone was watching and waited until the time was right to pull the kunai and drop the barrier. Quietly, the ninja sneaks inside, followed by 2 others who were also hidden. They open the door to find 3 beds, but one was empty. Suddenly, their leader feels something cold against his neck and hears a voice behind him.

"Move even an inch and you die..."

The other 2 ninja turn around to see Inaga holding on to their boss and they immediately attack...just to be kicked in the face by Daichi and Namaru and sent flying in opposite directions. Inaga kicks their leader away from himself and send the guy across the room.

"Namaru. Daichi. You handle the other 2. I got this one. But be careful. If they were able to get past the barrier, then they have to be Jonin level or higher..."

Namaru and Daichi nod and charge their opponents while Inaga charges the other guy.

Namaru clashes kunai with his opponent and they begin to exchange in bladed combat, Namaru countering everything with his Sharingan. Namaru follows up a parry with a kick and knocks his opponent through the wall. The ninja hits a tree and slowly stands up, but before he even realizes what's going on, he's surrounded by reflections of Namaru.

"Secret Jutsu: Crystal Ice Mirrors."

Before the ninja can react, he gets turned into a pin cushion for a bunch of poison senbon needles. Namaru's opponent falls to the ground, unable to move and coughing up blood. The mirrors disperse and Namaru stands over him.

"The poison in your body is currently shutting down your entire system and will end with your heart. For the next 30 seconds you will be coughing up blood and will be in excruciating pain. Ultimately, you will die."

Namaru watches as the ninja spouts curses and screams in agony before eventually perishing. His hair falls to the side, revealing he is a rogue from the Hidden Mist village. Namaru takes the ninja's headband and puts it in his pouch before returning to the house to find something horrifying...

On Daichi's end, he uses his Byakugan to stun his opponent with the gentle fist. Then, Daichi unleashes his ultimate technique. The ninja watches in horror as chakra forms on Daichi's hands and takes the shape of lions.

"Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists!"

Daichi charges his opponent and strikes him with the technique, knocking the man unconscious. He, then, also returns to the house to see the same sight as Namaru...

They both see Inaga lying on the ground in a puddle of blood and rush over to him, the other ninja nowhere in sight. Daichi checks his pulse to find he's alive, but barely. Inaga slowly opens his eyes to look at Namaru, who is in shock, before speaking.

"You...have...to run...Namaru. Take...my eyes...and run. Take them...before I die..."

Namaru sits there in complete silence for a moment and turns to Daichi, his expression cold.

"Get his eyes and put them in a jar or something. I have a job to do..."

Daichi nods and Namaru walks outside to see the other ninja standing there almost completely unscathed.

"Awwww. Has the other one come out to play? This ought to be fun..."

Namaru looks at the ground his voice monotone.

"Yes...It will, indeed..."

Namaru looks up, his sharingan active, but it's different. In his eyes is a fourth tomoe forming the shape of a diamond with the other 3. Around the tomoe, his eyes are a deeper red, one matching that of the color of blood. The other ninja's demeanor completely changes.

"Shouldn't there only be 3 of those...?"

Namaru shrugs, his expression still cold.

"I guess I'm more special than I thought..."

Namaru starts slowly walking toward the man, who is now freaking out.

"NAH! THIS WASN'T IN THE CONTRACT!"

He turns to run, but another Namaru is behind him along with one coming from his right and left. Before he can react, he's being pierced by 4 separate lightning blade, all going through vital organs. The Namaru pull away and the opponent disappears, the whole thing being a giant shadow clone. The real one walks out from some nearby trees and looks at the other Namaru.

"Did you really think I wouldn't come prepared? How stupid you must be, boy!"

The 4 Namaru all laugh and disappear. The ninja's eyes widen and he looks down to see another lightning blade through his body. Namaru pulls away and the man stumbles forward before turning around and falling backward.

"H-How...? H-How did y-"

Namaru cuts him off.

"Before I even walked out of that house to fight you, you were under a genjutsu and were already dead. You weren't going to escape, no matter how hard you tried. My shadow clones were fake, your shadow clone was fake, that bush was even fake. You were crouched out in the open, unable to see that I was walking up behind you. How you even stood a chance against my brother is astonishing."

Back inside the house, while Namaru fights the unknown rogue, Inaga has a conversation with Daichi.

"You...need to...make sure...that Namaru gets these...before they lose their light..."

Daichi looks down at Inaga confused.

"What do you mean, 'lose their light?'"

Inaga, still gasping for air, just stares at Daichi blankly for a second.

"Namaru...will...understand. Now, take them. Take them...so Namaru...can do some good...with them...and make sure...he gets back...to the Leaf...by any means necessary..."

Daichi nods and begins the extraction process. Back outside, the rogue, summoning every ounce of strength he had left, stands up and charges Namaru, who disappears on impact and ensnares the guy from a different location.

"Sand Coffin..."

The ninja finds himself unable to move and Namaru appears out of thin air.

"Oh, yeah. Did I neglect to mention that you were still in a genjutsu? Don't get me wrong, the genjutsu is released now and that Sand Coffin you're in is 100% real, so don't think you're gonna be able to escape. Now, I'm gonna ask you one question and the way you answer will determine in what way I decide to kill you. Who...sent you?"

The man refuses to say anything, which makes Namaru quickly grow impatient.

"Fine then. Earth Style: Quicksand."

The man begins to slowly sink into the ground, but still refuses to say anything. Once he is up to his neck in sand, he decides to speak.

"Sh-Shirane! His name is Shirane! Shirane Dorobou! He sent us to kill you and your brother!"

Namaru looks at him coldly.

"That's just want I wanted to hear..."

The ninja in the ground looks relieved.

"So does that mean I'm free to go?"

Namaru clenches his outstretched hand into a fist.

"Not even close. Sand Burial."

The ninja is crushed alive and his head rolls across the ground. Namaru bends down and takes the headband off of the head before walking over and killing the one that Daichi knocked out and took his headband, too. Namaru then walks back inside to see Daichi holding Inaga's eyes. Namaru's eyes slowly spin and turn into something completely different...the Mangekyou Sharingan. His eyes now have a black shuriken pattern in them. He looks at Inaga's eyes, which looked like black snowflakes...HIS Mangekyou. Namaru takes the eyes and Daichi looks concerned.

"What are you going to do with them?"

Namaru held the eyes up to his own.

"I need to transplant them into my own eyes before his lose their light. It's something I read in a scroll in my grandpa's stuff..."

Daichi has a moment of realization.

"So, that's what he was talking about. Inaga mentioned something about his eyes losing their light, but I didn't know what he meant."

Namaru quickly begins the transplantation process as Daichi watches in horror. Several seconds later, Namaru's eyes look even more different. Now he has the shuriken pattern as well as what look like bits of a snowflake in between each one.

"Now no one can take his eyes..."

Namaru reverts his eyes back to his unique 4-tomoe sharingan and then deactivates his dojutsu altogether.

"Now, let's go. We have to reach the Sand Village. We'll have to travel nonstop to get there safely."

Daichi starts to follow, but seems worried.

"You're awfully calm for someone who just lost his brother..."

Namaru looks back at him.

"That's because I'm not sad. He was a coward. During my fight with the guy, I realized he was way too weak to have killed Inaga. That means Inaga let the opponent kill him. I don't know if he was being lazy or what, but there was no way he would have lost, especially with those eyes...The Mangekyou Sharingan doesn't lose. Its abilities are far beyond your comprehension..."

Namaru starts to walk away again and Daichi thinks for a moment about what Inaga told him before coming up with a hypothesis of his own.

"Well, what if he did that for your benefit? What if it was to make you stronger?"

Namaru scoffs and retorts.

"I'd have gotten stronger, anyway. I didn't need him to let himself die, if that's what he even did it for. Now, I'm done talking about this. Let's go..."

Daichi continues to follow, but is still concerned about the situation.

"Shouldn't we go back to the Leaf and report a dead Jonin? We really shouldn't be trying to continue a mission without a Jonin with us. Your mother can just write to the Sand and explain the situation to the Kazekage."

Namaru sighs and hangs his head.

"You can go back if you want, but I'm going to make sure this mission is completed..."

Daichi sighs and mutters under his breath.

"I'm sorry about this, Namaru..."

Suddenly, Namaru feels a sting in his back and his muscles start relaxing, causing him to fall. Daichi walks over to him and picks him up.

"I've used a paralytic poison to stop you from going anywhere but the Leaf. Inaga's final wish was that I got you back to the village by any means necessary. We have to explain the situation to the Hokage."

Namaru remains silent as Daichi carries him back to the village. By morning, they are standing in front of Sarada and Daichi is explaining everything.

Sarada looks down at her desk, displeased.

"I see... So my oldest son is dead and my youngest now has an ocular power beyond even my own..."

A tear falls down her cheek and lands on the desk...right before she crushes the whole thing with a single punch, leaving Chocho speechless. She turns to her advisor and speaks, her voice wavering from grief.

"Take these two home and write the 5th Kazekage. I need to collect my thoughts."

She turns her attention to the Genin in front of her.

"Namaru, you are to practice with this new power of yours until you have control over it. As for Daichi, you are to continue training with Hinata to fully master your Byakugan. You are all dismissed."

Chocho guides the other two out of the office and walks them to Namaru's, where Sakura carries Namaru inside. Then Daichi is walked home and left to Hinata and Naruto. Chocho then goes home herself, leaving Sarada to grieve.

We're gonna do a bit of a time skip past all of the training and to the day of the Chunin exam finals, which will take place in the next chapter. For those confused, yes Namaru did unlock a new 4th tomoe in his sharingan and then immediately jumped to Mangekyou and Eternal Mangekyou. I have plans for that in for future. They will not be used just yet, but he will be training them over time to gain mastery. You probably won't see them fully implemented until he's a Jonin. Until next time, when I release, "The Chunin Exams: Finale!" I do plan on trying to upload once a week or so. I've been taking too long on this...
