The Soccer in Me

Marcus Jones was a passionate soccer enthusiast who found himself in the afterlife with another chance; haunted by the memories of a painful life and driven by an unrelenting passion for the game, Marcus chose a second chance to fulfill his dreams. As he navigates a world of selfish clubs and soccer prodigies, he realizes that soccer is not merely a sport but the grandest stage in the pursuit of dreams that transcend the boundaries of human capability. Guided by his undying love for the game, Marcus confronts the challenges that thwart his journey to greatness. "The Soccer in Me" explores the themes of pursuing dreams, second chances, and cherishing life as Marcus Jones grapples with his past, embraces his present, and strives for a future where the echoes of the past propel him toward a destiny that transcends the confines of mortal existence. In a world where the pitch becomes humanity's battleground, and love defies constraint, Marcus learns that every kick, every goal, and every heartbeat is a step closer to the eternity of his dreams. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Author: I am trying to dip my toes into the idea of writing, so constructive ideas or corrections is greatly appreciated. Just know that to repost a chapter messes up the book in people's Libraries, so any mistake you find I will correct on my Original Document, but will not be posted on Webnovel until I finish the novel and repost the whole thing with all the edits. - Expect Chapters to be anywhere between 500-800 words, obviously it could go over, but the minimum will always be 500. - I do not have a set schedule for posting, but I want to try at least once a week. - There will be elements of Romance and it will be heavily explored, but the main theme of the novel will always be Soccer/Futbol. No Harem.

Chapter 5

"Samsara, I want you to come with me for my final wish."

It takes a second for her to process my request, and then I swear I have never seen someone blush so fast. Her whole face instantly turned red, and her sleeve came up with a swoosh, which I didn't know was possible in the void with no air resistance, and she turned slightly away.

"Y-y-y--y-y-ou w-want me," she asks stutteringly.

"Yes, listening to your life, you deserve to experience more. Yes, we mortals die at the end, but that finish line makes everything we do more meaningful. And you'll never have to be bored, you won't forget the ones you love. You might not live for eternity, but what is the point of eternity if you can't enjoy the life you have," I shyly half-mumble.

"W-w-w-hat," she asks squeakingly.

"I'm not asking you to be my wife or caretaker. I want you to experience a mortal life, and if I'm being honest, I want to see what you do with it," I say hurriedly.

After listening to my reasoning, Samsara falls silent for a while. Eventually, she lowers her sleeve.

"It can be done.. but I must arrange my absence with my brothers and sisters to cover for me. Is this truly what you want to use your last wish for?"

"Yes, if I can't make my life good with the future knowledge I have, then I'm better off dead," I say firmly.

Samsara's eyes soften slightly.

"Very well. Good luck, Marcus."

As she waved at me, I could feel my awareness fading, and naturally, I wanted to fight the feeling, but seeing her kind smile, I forced myself to accept it. No one wants to be forced to sleep, so Hollywood ensures we know the consequences.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know it's been reiterated in countless web novels, but being a baby sucks. You start blind, and then you hear everything three times more than normal due to not having developed control of your senses. I think anyone would go crazy in this situation, which might explain why all those MCs do dumb things for no reason.

After six months, I finally could see from my eyes and enjoy the colors of the world I now found myself in. I had listened to my Mother's melodic voice, and now I could see the face she had to match. The dark brown hair outlined vibrant green eyes on a face that looked somewhat like Jennifer Aniston, but slightly more filled out.

I could hear my father's deep timber, and now I could see his dark brown hair like my mom's, but also the deep, worn lines on his face of a man who worked hard to provide for his family. His brows were set in a furrow whenever he was around, but the softness I see now in his chocolate-colored eyes almost made me cry.

Which means I did; I can feel the tears start to slide silently down my baby cheeks as I take in the love and affection, the care and joy my parents looked at me with. Will a person ever truly understand how much their parents love them or sacrifice so their child succeeds? I feel grateful that in my last life, I was there to support my mother until the very end. If she and my father looked at me like these parents do, then every pain and every frustration was worth it.

I have goals in this life; to embrace the sport I had loved and found too late, to become rich with my knowledge of the future market, and, finally, to see what a god will do when given a mortal life. Big things are ahead, but I can handle everything with my mindset.

Sorry for it being slightly late, I had thought I had finished this chapter but when I went back to post it, there was only 300 words. So I had to readjust the next 4-5 chapters to make the breaks make sense after moving words into this one.
