Chapter 2

(Flora's POV)

I cry all the way home.

When I calm down, I realize that this icy house is never my home with him.

I don't want to be in this sad place any longer. But I dare not tell my mother that my marriage to Leo ended in tragedy.

I decide to leave and start packing.

But where should I go?

I have a lot of savings in my account, but I dare not transfer them, otherwise my elders will find out about my divorce. For the time being, I can only get by with the cash I have.

After renting a bachelor pad, I only have a month's living expenses.

It's time to look for a job.

I make up my mind and click into the job site to update my resume.

I'm getting frustrated.

After graduating from college, I married Leo, gave up my job, and worked as a full-time housewife for three years, just in case he could see me when he came home one day.

However, he did not return home for even a day.

All my efforts were in vain.

I find it impossible to update the resume I created three years ago.

With this lackluster resume, I apply to almost every company that might hire me and start waiting for a response.

Failed.

Failed.

Failed.

I'm turned away again and again.

Just as I'm in despair, my phone rings.

Will this be an interview invitation?

I quickly pick up the phone.

Then I hear the voice of Alva Watson, Leo's assistant.

"Miss Flora, you have seen all this, right? Mr. Wilson has drawn up a divorce settlement and wants to know when you will be free to sign it? There will be a large amount of compensation for you, don't worry."

My heart hurts again.

I don't want Alva to hear my discomfort.

So I press my chest and reply to Alva, "Wait until I inform my elders. I hope he has the same courage to tell his elders."

Our marriage symbolizes the union of two families, not just two people.

Contrary to Leo, his father Mr. Cody has always been kind to me.

Both my mother and Mr. Cody hope that Leo and I can get along well and live happily together for a lifetime.

I'm not worried about divorce, but I don't know how to explain it to them.

"Okay, I'll let Mr. Wilson know."

Alva has achieved his purpose, and gently waits for me to hang up first.

Hanging up the phone, I collapse on my bed in exhaustion.

Leo even has prepared a divorce settlement.

He has already planned to abandon me.

He never gives me a look, and it is impossible for him to fall in love with me.

I've been a fool for three years!

I can't hold back my tears any longer.

I keep crying until the phone rings again.

It's not from anyone I'm familiar with.

I wipe my tears, pick up the phone, and hear a voice I'm expecting.

"Miss Flora Mana? Hello, this is NK Media. We have received your resume and would like to invite you for an interview. Is it convenient for you?"

"Yes." I reply.

My voice must sound weird.

"Okay, I will send you the time and location, please check it."

Fortunately, the HR is businesslike and doesn't mind my crying voice.

As soon as I hang up I get a text message informing me of the interview.

I'm grateful that it shows up when I'm most down and tells me that I'm still needed.

Tomorrow is a new day.

I get up early this morning and set out in the business attire I bought three years ago.

Upon arrival, I see a long queue of interviewees who are all competing for the same position as me.

I think about my simple resume and lose my confidence.

"NK Media wants an Arabic-speaking secretary. Do you speak Arabic?"

"A little. I'm better at Spanish."

I hear two job applicants whispering.

It turns out that each of them can speak more than one foreign language.

What about me?

I've learned etiquette, cooking, dancing, flower arrangement, maternity care, and other housewife skills, but they don't work for job hunting.

The interview hasn't started yet, but I've seen the end.

I quietly back away, ready to leave.

I don't want to be rejected again.

Suddenly, the door to the interview room opens.

A familiar man enters the room.

"I have an important party tonight, and I need a female companion. Are there any suitable candidates for this?"

Saying that, the man glances at me and other job seekers.

"Flora Mana?" He comes up to me in surprise.

I finally remember who he is. "George Howard? Are you working here?"

"Yes, it's nice to meet you here. You should have been admitted, right? You've always been excellent."

I smile awkwardly.

"Yes, she has been admitted." The HR says.

"Tonight's banquet, please." George smiles kindly.

(Leo's POV)

"When is she coming to sign it?" I ask Alva.

"She said she would inform her elders first," Alva reply, "and she would like you to communicate this to your elders in person."

Flora Mana is really a troublemaker.

But I should inform my father.

Ada Mitchell, Flora's mother, had given all their money to support my business.

No matter how much I hate Ada and Flora, I have to admit that they did me a huge favor.

It seems that divorce will take some more time.

"Mr. Wilson, there's a charity dinner tonight. Would you like to attend?" Alva asks.

"Certainly."
