Doesn't Make Sense

"They will do as they want. I understand now. With situations like this, they cannot easily use their power as they like. This will really limit their movement."

"Yes, and this is an international rule, Rafael. So no matter what country, the existence of people with power is always hidden."

"How about demons then? Do they exist?"

"Demon? Most myths of those supernatural creatures came from civilians witnessing fights between Awakeners. It then became exaggerated and changed into those myths. Sometimes, the government also did this on purpose to make the story confusing."

"Makes sense, so those that see it accidentally will end up running away and try to forget about it."

"Yes."

They exchanged some more small talk until they finally reached the car. Leslie was already waiting for them.

She quickly did a ninety-degree bow, "I am sorry, Sir Rafael, I should be more professional."

Aurora still glared at her; she didn't like what happened. Reflect or not, she should have control over her strength. A single wrong move could potentially kill normal people.

"It's fine, we were sparring anyway."

"Have you scrubbed all the records?" Aurora asked coldly.

"Yes, miss."

"Good. Start the car," Aurora ordered.

"Are you mad, Aurora?" Rafael asked. Her tone and demeanor had changed. It was one he had never seen before.

"Of course. You don't know how strong Leslie is; if she really wanted to, she could kill you in one movement, Rafael." Her gaze then turned to worry as she hesitated.

"Rafael, give me your hand."

Rafael was confused, but he still raised his hand. Aurora looked around, making sure no one was looking at them, and Leslie was in the car. She moved forward, took out something from her bag, and then put it in Rafael's hand.

"Keep this with you all the time, and hide it. When something happens, and you feel the danger to your life, use it. You will understand how when the time comes," Aurora whispered, then walked toward the car door.

Rafael could see a card on top of his hand. It gave out a cold sensation, like he was touching metal. It had a smooth texture, but Rafael could tell it wasn't a normal item.

On the surface, there were many weird symbols carved in a circular form.

Rafael took the object, similar in size to a credit card, and slipped it into his pocket.

On the way, Rafael wanted to ask Aurora what this card was, but he decided not to. He also thought of sending a message to ask her, but who knew if the information was tapped? He then decided to just forget about it.

"By the way, Aurora, what about your mother? I never heard about her."

Contrary to Aurora, who was famous, there was almost no news about her mother. There were many wild speculations online, but since it was the same with all the king's wives, most people didn't care about it.

Aurora's eyes turned sad. She paused for a moment. Her eyes then glistened. "She is already not in this world, Rafael."

"I am sorry, I didn't know. If you don't mind, what happened?"

"It's fine. I know almost everything about you. It's not fair if you don't know anything. Different from other princesses, I was raised as a normal civilian by my mother. Actually, I didn't even know I was a princess and had a father until her death."

"Did your father and mother have a fight?"

"No, it's just what they decided. Mother told me everything on my 12th birthday."

"I see. She was afraid for you to blabber if you were told as a child. But how did she die then?" Rafael asked with worry in his eyes.

Tears painted Aurora's cheeks wet. "It wasn't assassination or anything like that. She died because of a terminal illness.

Despite living alone, Father always had people protecting us. My mother's identity was also hidden for a long time, so I am sure there was no foul play involved."

"How could you be sure, Aurora? With people like Awakeners and Templars, does an illness that cannot be cured still exist? I don't believe it."

"Even their abilities are not omnipotent, Rafael. There may be someone who can heal her, but my father just couldn't find one.

The best he could do was to slow down the illness process, but even then, it wasn't long. She died when I was 15."

"Wait, you said you always attended private school. You never suspected the reason for this?"

"I was a child. What did you expect? If it was now, of course, I would realize something was wrong. My mother always stayed at home with me while we lived in a decent home with maids and many employees."

"So you only went to public school after your father took you with him..."

"Yes, but as I said, I hated it."

"What was your mother's illness?"

"It was something like Parkinson's disease. The doctor said it was a mutated ALS, but I don't even know what that means.

I only knew she would lose control over her body, and at one point, even her heart would stop. But thankfully, with the treatment she got, she was still able to move without problems. But this doesn't change the fact her body was decaying."

Rafael was confused. He had heard of this disease before. "That doesn't make sense. How was she able to move her body if the nerves were degraded?

If your father could find a way to remedy it, he should have been able to find a similar way to stop the decay."

"I don't know, Rafael. You need to ask my father if you want to know the details. But I am sure he did everything he could. I just know it. Every time he gazed at my mother, it was just different."

"Did they meet when your father was thrown in the street?"

Aurora wiped the tears from her eyes, then smiled. "Yes. Can you believe it? Their love story is straight from a drama."
