The Silverth family mansion was once the home of a prince, which explained its vast size. Gris had been caught up in his matters since transmigrating, but now he finally had the chance to observe the mansion.
Constructed with large stones, the mansion appeared sturdy and imposing. Tall towers lined the outer walls, and Gris stood atop one of them, taking in the impressive view.
"The greenhouse is very nice. I didn't know something like that could be made," he spoke to Leander, who was guarding the tower for this morning.
Leander glanced at the only greenhouse in the mansion. The greenhouse, entirely crafted from glass, showcased a stunning array of plants within its transparent walls.
"Actually, the greenhouse wasn't an original part of the mansion. It was built after the mansion was handed over to Sir Blayz. A master builder built the greenhouse for the late Mrs. Adelind."
The information about the greenhouse builder was outside Gris' memory. That was why he was baiting Leander to talk about it since he had been working at the mansion for so long.
The greenhouse should not be built like in modern times, considering Rise of Low-class Hero was set in the medieval era.
If there was a greenhouse in this era, it should have been made of oiled cloth, selenite*, and other translucent materials to allow sunlight.
Glass existed in the medieval era, but its use was limited and expensive. A building could have used glass, but it would not have been as complex as a modern greenhouse.
"That master builder must be very good at his craft," Gris praised. "I wonder what other good buildings he's made."
Leander was surprised that Gris was suddenly interested in architecture. Still, he responded because he felt clever enough to be able to answer the young master's questions.
"Geoffrey is his name. He built many unique buildings for the empire and the nobles. But he's not here now. It's said that he went traveling to other continents for inspiration."
The description of the master builder convinced Gris that Geoffrey was a transmigrator from the future, just like him.
He recalled a comic adaptation of a novel about a transmigrated civil engineer. The protagonist became an estate designer in his new life.
Geoffrey had a case similar to that story. He was most likely an architect or engineer in his previous life.
Once he realized he was living in the medieval era, he decided to build structures that should not have existed in this era.
There was no character named Geoffrey in Rise of the Low-class Hero. Gris wondered if Geoffrey knew he had come back to life in a novel.
'How many damn transmigrators are here? I'm a bit disappointed that I'm not the only one.'
Obviously, Gris thought he was chosen to solve big problems in this new world. That was normal. He was a hitman in his previous life.
Of course, he thought his past identity might play a significant role.
Geoffrey also probably thought he was destined to become a legendary master builder in this era. It made Gris wonder about Solnisca's past identity.
Their meeting yesterday was too short. For some reason, Gris could not shake the feeling that Solnisca exuded the cunning aura of a fox or something equally.
'Does she also pursue a specific field? She said she retired from her job.'
Gris stopped thinking about the other transmigrators when Declan arrived. His eyes were no longer staring blankly at the greenhouse.
"Young Master, Sir Blayz asks you to come to the great hall now."
"Were the other children also asked to go there?"
"Yes. It seems that Sir Blayz will be discussing the academy."
Gris thanked Leander and Declan before going to the great hall. The other children had already settled into their seats when he arrived. He took his place next to Alaric, who greeted him with an enthusiastic wave.
"What's wrong with them?" Gris could feel the other kids looking at him with dislike.
"You must know that we're going to the academy soon. That means we can't train in the special area. We previously asked Father for some land, but now it's useless."
Just by Alaric's response, Gris could deduce his siblings' thoughts. They were still resentful that his request to Blayz was only for land.
If they asked for more, Blayz would probably compare them to Gris.
"I have a cursed axe for my raid yesterday. You all can ask for a weapon of equal value," Gris spoke casually.
But his siblings were dumbfounded once they learned he used a cursed weapon. For a beginner, a normal weapon was better than one with curses or magic.
"That's amazing! You're courageous to use a cursed weapon," Alaric responded with interest.
Gris shrugged his shoulders. "I was swallowed by the curse of darkness for a few minutes yesterday. But I calculated the extent of the cursed area thanks to that. I think I'm talented in this."
It was evident that Rowena was the one irritated by Gris' demeanor. She was convinced that Gris was purposefully speaking in such a manner to incite her emotions.
'Is he showing off that he can control a cursed weapon in one try? I hope you're swallowed by the curse forever!'
Gris glanced at Rowena and smirked, eliciting a glare from her. He took pleasure in provoking others, knowing they could not fault him for their reactions.
It was their fault for not being able to control their own emotions.
A moment later, Blayz came in with Alberic, carrying five paper scrolls. He sat before his children and asked Alberic to distribute the scrolls to them.
"I believe you already know the purpose of this meeting. Please memorize the scroll contents because I must destroy them later."
Gris unrolled the paper and read the contents carefully. It turned out to be a copy of the academy-related content Gwen had written.
[I'll let you know about the grades at the academy. There are three grades in Pandemonium Academy.
In the first grade, you will learn about the introduction to evil, history, and ethics of the Doomsday Committee. This is the basic class where you will also learn the fundamentals of destruction and study human behavior toward the doomsday.
If you have received divine blessings, you will be directed to specialized classes to develop your talents.
In the second grade, you learn about developing skills in destruction and creating chaos. To advance to this level, you must first obtain a divine blessing and choose a villain role.
By the third grade, you must have mastered all the knowledge and skills to create absolute chaos. You will go through a final test according to your expected position in the Doomsday Committee.
Advancing to the next grade isn't bound by a specific timeline. By giving your best effort, you can make rapid progress.
After passing the final test, you are officially accepted into the Doomsday Committee, and further benefits will be announced later.]
[Notes: I can only provide this summary. The academy has banned graduates or seniors from sharing the contents of textbooks with prospective disciples.
This was due to internal conflicts that arose over copies of the textbooks. The students who didn't receive a copy were upset and caused a commotion.
Thus, I can't give out the copies like before. The academy rules will be provided to you upon your arrival.]
Gris was dissatisfied that he could not memorize the textbooks before attending the academy. But he understood why the copies caused conflict.
The students who did not receive a copy felt it was unfair and feared being left behind. Consequently, they caused quite a commotion, prompting the academy to take their concerns seriously.
"How many people from our family are graduates and seniors?" Gris raised a question.
Blayz counted with his fingers. "The academy was only built about seven years ago. I send five kids every new term, but only six are left now."
"Did they die at the academy or after joining the committee?"
"Both. That's why you have to be strong and smart to survive."
Death evokes a myriad of emotions in humans. And Blayz's words sent shivers down the spines of his children.
