The Mortal's Throne

In the time before the gods, there were great beings of power who ruled over the mortals and monsters. Then came the gods who vanquished the titans and brought forth a new era. In this new era, there are whispers of a titan who was too powerful to be defeated, even by the gods. Some dismiss this as rumer or simple gossip, others however take it as gospel. Some seek to free this mighty titan, but how can a mortal stand against a god? Sometimes, outside help is required. ____________ I do not own Titan Quest. I'm just a big fan of the game. I will continue until the end of Act 1 of the game and may continue into the other acts in the future. I hope you enjoy my retelling of the game!

Chapter 4, Hero Storage.

"You don't see him? He is standing about a foot away from the merchant, he is standing by a large chest."

At this point both the elders at the merchant are looking at each other, seemingly having an invisible conversation. They seemed to be busy so I approached the invisible man.

"Why can't they see you? It's clear you are real, is it something to do with me being a hero?"

He opened and closed his mouth but nothing came out. Instead a message appeared in front of him.

[Hero Storage. Store items for later, store items for future heroes and Store relics]

[Would you like to open the Storage?]

"Yes I would."

[Opening Storage]

The chest opened up and I bent down to look at what it contained.

There was another screen with an empty grid, to the left there were 3 sections and the top one was open.

I thought of changing to the next section and it changed. There were fantastical weapons and jewelry but nothing seemed to be available for me to grab aside from a stack of potions. I took one of them out and another window appeared.

This one was far more detailed than the others. It held an image of myself, there were 10 slots that surrounded my image. Two of them were filled, the top and middle on the left side. They held my axe and leather chest armor.

I realized that there was one slot that correlated to each piece of equipment that I could wear. Only there was one extra that I decided to put off for later, there seemed to be no way for me to identify its purpose for now.

Above the equipment windows there were two sections that resembled the ones for the Hero Storage. I thought of changing to the other section and suddenly my axe I was holding disappeared.

-

Unbeknownst to me my actions startled both the merchant and elder who were watching Atlas talk to air.

The two of them had finished their discussion and were just waiting as the Hero did his strange things.

He suddenly went from talking to the air, to crouching down, then to staying silent before standing up. His eyes were focused on something so they didn't disturb him.

When his axe disappeared suddenly the two of them had different reactions. The merchant panicked and the elder smiled widely.

The merchant went to run over but Diomedes stopped him. "There is nothing wrong, we got to witness the first Armament Change of the hero. You should be honored, not very many get to see this."

The merchant returned to his stall and watched patiently with the elder.

-

I thought about switching sections again and like magic the axe returned to my hand.

'I seem to be able to have two different weapon sets at once, this will be great if I can swap these mid combat.'

Below what I decided to call my armor windows there was a grid like the one in the first section of the Hero Storage. It was 5 by 12, so it was slightly smaller than the storage which was 8 by 10. Still it was good to have storage so I wouldn't have to carry everything.

To the right of my character and storage was some information which seemed to be information about my person. There was Health, Mana, Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Average Damage, Health Regeneration, Mana Regeneration and Resistances.

This seemed to be an analysis of my current self. I switched to my other armor set and watched my Average Damage drop from 12 down to 5. This made sense that my fist could do much less damage than an axe.

I have 50 points in both Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence. 280/300 Health, and 200/200 Mana. I regain 2 Health and 2.5 Mana every second. I don't have any resistance at the moment.

There wasn't anything for me to do with this window now so opened up the Hero Storage again and took out potions. I found that I can stack 25 potions in a single slot of my inventory so I was really happy with that.

Closing the Hero Storage I also closed my own window and tried to take out a potion. I just had to think about it and one appeared in my hand. I drank the potion and magically the cuts that had scabbed up on my left arm healed themselves instantly. The scabs just fell away from my arm and landed on the ground.

Now fully healed I felt that I had a good grasp of my abilities and was ready to face this shaman. It wouldn't be easy but with a large amount of potions at my disposal I felt ready for the challenge.

Changed back to my main weapon set and walked over to the elder and the merchant who were waiting patiently for me.

"Are you ready for the task Atlas?"

"Yes I am, if you could take me to the outskirts of the village I will return with the head of the shaman for you."

Diomedes laughed aloud and clapped me on the back. "Good, Good! That's the spirit! Come right this way."

He led me in a direction I hadn't been so far. I had thought that the entrance that I came through was well fortified but it was nothing compared to this.
