The Monsters First Love

Madeline Colter despises her country, Grandor, home to the most conservative and racist people to exist, the only country to reject people of other species while having a half-vampire prince. But when the prince comes of age and every woman in the country is forced to participate in a competition for the position of queen, Madeline is dragged into it. She expected to be failed immediately, not that she'd meet with the so-called feared prince and realize they may not be so different after all. Alexei, known as the fearful war monger prince, feels little affection for anyone. Ostracised among nobility with his only protector now dead he has to pick a queen to ascend the throne. What he hadn't expected was to meet a girl that would make him realize how touch-starved he truly was. —————————- I stared at the people below me, all their faces enamoured with awe as they beheld me. I was a commoner moments before, but here I sat- a crown atop my head. I felt his fingers squeeze my hand and tried to stop my flinch. His red eyes boring into the side of my face. I knew he was grinning from ear to ear. I knew he had set all this up for me. Not to show me. But… to warn me. Thousands of eyes leered at me and I knew what was to come would be much worse than what had already happened. “Long Live the King and his Queen!” The chants began and I could feel a prickle in the corner of my eyes. “Do not cry”. His cold words were warmer than the finger that brushed my eyelid. My eye stilled and slid toward him. “This is all yours now. Just as much as it is mine. A country in the hands of those who hate it. Let’s ruin it all”. The fire burning in those eyes shook my core. “Long… live the king” I said slowly and deliberately, watching his smile stretch further. “Long live the queen”. ———————- I looked at the massacre around us. There was blood everywhere… why didn't he care for that? "Why do you want mine?" I asked curiously, face turning pink when he lifted his intoxicated eyes towards me and his face was flushed, lips panting. It sent a strange thrill through me to see a man of such power on his knees, practically begging. "I want all of you. Everything" he laid a kiss on my skin, breathing in the scent. Chapter 89

I had been the first to run off the moment we were allowed to be excused. It was rude, but did it matter?

The wetness between my legs was a great argument for it.

I thought back to Jules face as I fell backwards on my bed. He was so beautiful. So intoxicating that I couldn't be angry at him for basically humiliating me.

Were we fated? Was my excuse to avoid him just a means of delaying the inevitable?

I let out a long sigh, somehow the feeling of his hands between my legs was still so real-

No!

I sat up- rushing to the nearly empty jar of pills.

They should work by now! Why is this happening?

I threw the jar across the room in a fit of anger. Anger at the stupid pills that should have helped me avoid this. Anger at my genius brother who couldn't help me.

Four pills fell on the ground, leaving the jar empty. I stared at all four- the last four. Mathias said results would be gradual but evident, but nothing had been evident at all.

I saw no results whatsoever.

Nothing.

I changed out of my dress, deciding to call it a day out of frustration when a knock sounded outside my door, a loud voice followed.

"Lady Colter, you've received a letter from the Archangel household" the voice of a footman had me scrambling for a robe and I quickly opened the door.

"Thank you" I took the letter with a smile and shut the door. Ripping it open immediately.

As expected it was from Connor.

He wrote that he hadn't received any letters from me and that he missed me. I had blushed embarrassed at his description of my usual banter that was witty and apparently charming.

But as I read I felt the usual weighing guilt and let out a deep breath, taking hold of a pen and paper. I decided to scramble the words I should have said two weeks ago.

I can't lead on someone so genuine any longer.

But the pen barely touched the paper when I felt someone behind me. I froze up, eyes widening at the swish of air as a black strand of hair fell on my shoulder.

My brain had registered what had happened, but I had no idea how to react as the paper on my desk was lifted up and torn in two pieces. Both of which fell on the plain paper I planned to write on.

I stared at them.

I didn't know what to say.

I didn't want to say anything.

He said nothing and he wrapped his arms around my shoulders, his head resting on my shoulder as he squeezed me. As if to beg me not to leave.

My heart was a mess. More so when I realised he could hear it.

"Your brother told me about the pills" as he spoke vibrations travelled along my skin. "They don't work if the human is fated. He knew that and he still gave it to you".

I didn't reply. Finding it a very Mathias thing to do. He experimented with me… how ironic.

"So what?"

"I wondered what drew me to you- I'm a bit disappointed it's simply some sort of magical phenomenon".

"An inconvenient one" I grumbled and then with a sigh, "I guess it makes sense- otherwise why would anyone come to like me".

"That man likes you" his arms squeezed tighter, "he likes you simply because you're you. He wouldn't hold you back. He'd go with you wherever" I could hear a heart riveting pain in his voice. One that made my heart squeeze so much it hurt.

"He would… he wants to see me set on my voyage. He's a rare one" I felt the way his hands spread around me, fingers digging in my skin. I could feel the desperation pouring off him. "Unfortunately I can't seem to like him in that manner at all" I let out a dry laugh as I turned to look at the monster hanging on to me.

The red eyes that I could look at for hours. The beautiful hair that was soft and shiny and the face that stared at me in something deeper than desire.

"You don't". He stated slowly, eyes on my lips.

"I don't". I looked away but he grabbed my face and turned me back to him.

"You… you want me" he stated slowly, revelation dawning on him and I couldn't stop my blush when his eyes brightened. He grinned wide and leaned towards me, feigning a kiss before he pulled away. I had waited for it. My lips puckered.

He stared at me with a cruel, mocking smirk.

I looked away, shame flooding my body as I heard his laugh echo in the room. His intoxicating voice once again repeating.

"You truly want me? Madeline colter desires the touch of Grandors prince?! Do you really?" He had turned my chair around, his hands clamped on the armrest and his face way too close to mine.

His eyes bore intently into my own as he let out a deep hum. The smile on his lips made me realise that he wanted to play. Something inhumane awoken in him at all of this drama- or maybe… maybe it had always been there…
