Chapter 27

Pushing the shopping trolley in front, I glanced at the varying brands of cereal, my hands held a box and closely examined it checking if it included raisins.

From all angles, I could hear the other shoppers gawk at the man with a trolley dressed in a suit on a fine evening such as today.

"Sir, you can't buy all the cereal on the aisle, you have to return some." Betty behind the counter said in a tired voice, her eyes fixed on the clock hung behind me, probably wondering when she got off.

"Money isn't a problem."

"Money isn't the problem, it's store policy, please return some so other people can buy some." Betty insisted, I looked over my shoulder at the line of people behind, they didn't have any cereal in their trolleys, and even if they did, it included raisins.

I was about to ask for the manager, when a text from Kian distracted me.

Pup: Don't forget the milk.

A groan escaped my lips, I had completely forgotten about the fucking milk! I turned around to get some more, but he sent another message.

Actually he shared his location and captioned that I should meet up with them there once I was finished.

"That area, huh?" It wasn't particularly far, I could speed over there in thirty minutes. What I couldn't push back, was the thoughts that wandered in my head, just what was he doing over there?

I pulled over at the location which was an old people's home, I was about to text Kian, when I noticed him talking to someone close to a coffee shop right across.

That someone who happened to be a guy about the same age as I, ugly face and judging by the way he stood, I could tell he had no class whatsoever.

A nasty little fucker, and Kian hadn't even sighed once during their conversation like he does with me. Infact, dare I say, he looked like he was enjoying himself.

I didn't know when my feet glided over to them, nor when I wrapped an arm over his shoulders, pulling his body to my side, hiding his gaze from the irritable fellow.

A fellow that upon a closer look turned out to be…

"Oliver?" My beta's name had never sounded so disgusting.

He narrowed his eyes at my arm, questioning how it naturally clung to my mate. Then he directed his stare back to me, sharing equal stun as mine.

"You're suffocating me!" Kian spat out, pushing…attempting to push me away. I had completely forgotten that when it came to strength I topped him in that aspect.

I let go, only to get a stern glare from Kian, which looked like a warning to never pull that shit off again.

Recovering from it, I turned to Oliver instead, "What are you doing so far away from the packhouse?" I was heavy on the word packhouse, seeing as Oliver practically lived there, working full time.

Kian answered, "I invited him."

A frown painted my lips, "And how did you get his number?' I had been with them every moment they ever saw, there was no chance in hell they would've exchanged numbers and I didn't know about it.

And they couldn't have been meeting in secret, could they?

'What the fuck is going on? I thought you rejected him?' Oliver asked through the mindlink, drawing me out of my thoughts.

'I could ask you the same fucking question. What the hell are you doing meeting up with my mate?' The urge to grab Oliver by the neck and pin him against the nearest wall until he could no longer breathe overwhelmed me.

'Okay, don't be mad, but he was the one who reached out to me last night, saying he got my number from Gwen. I only came because he said it had something very important to ask me.' Oliver replied, unaware each word he said got on my last nerve.

'From today onwards, this is the first and last time you will meet with him at all. Don't even speak to him when you're alone. Do I make myself clear? Now leave.' I hardened my voice and sharpened my glare, giving Oliver a kind warning.

He closed his eyes, 'Yes, Alpha.' Oliver said then retreated to his motorcycle which he parked next to the old people's home.

I returned my focus to Kian and before he could say a word I grabbed him by the wrist, "You're coming back with me." I said, then shuffled towards my car, the only space with tinted windows.

To my surprise, Kian didn't say a word until we got into the car and I started the ignition.

"We can't leave just yet." He told me, attempting to step out the door.

Angry, I slammed my fist against the steering wheel, "Sit down and behave!" My voice came out in an angry growl, one that left Kian stunned.

However he quickly recovered from it, he pinched his temples and let out a sigh. "What is wrong with you now, Mr Alpha? You've come all this way already." he said, then took out his phone from his front pocket.

That was the fucking phone he used to contact someone else, I couldn't help the rage rushing through my veins as he scrolled through it.

Acting on impulse, I snatched it out of his hand and tossed it to the back. Kian scoffed, I expected him to blow up at me and maybe even slap me.

But instead he folded his arms across his chest, flung a leg over the other and for the first time…he half smiled.

"W-What's so funny?" I found myself asking, less angry at him and more interested in what could make this sadistic kid smile.

Not to mention the way my chest tightened at his dimples, I wanted to cup his face and murder it with kisses, until our lips connected…

Damn!

Kian tilted his head to the side and replied. "You."

"Me? What the fuck does that mean?" I spat out, still not fully happy with the situation, the anger I felt needed more than that to soothe over.

"You're really simple minded aren't you?" He asked in a tone that suggested no malice. Going on he said, "Your expression is written all over your face, no wonder you were chewed out for being expressive. It's cute with how easyily you get jealous."

A scowl found it's way onto my face. "I am anything but jealous." I said, but he did not seem the slightest bit convinced.

"Whatever you say, Alpha." He said in a lighthearted tone, still smiling from the sick amusement he got out of this.

But, placing the anger I was feeling aside, there was something satisfying about the way his lips drew back into a smile. I wanted to see him smile more, his blue eyes lit up whenever he did, no, his entire face did.

"If you're done staring at my face, could we go? The nursing home closes by six thirty." Kian's flat tone snapped me out of my thoughts.

I withdrew and straightened my back, it took some seconds for realization to kick in. "A nursing home? What are we going to do there?"

He gave me a blank stare, "The deed you brought back, did you even take time to go through it? I thought you planned to help Silvia?"

"I do. But what does that have to do with…"

"The only way now to stop what's happening is to have the original owner sell to you. So, that's what we're here for." he took a pause, then reached for another phone he carried in his hoodie.

Just how many phones did he carry about?

"The other party on the deed," he passed it to me, I stared at the screen, at the picture of the deed he had taken without me even realizing it.

"I was able to find and track down the location of the other party on that deed, the real owner." He said.

"But that's over a century ago, how were you able to find him in such a short span of time?" I interrogated, as far as I knew, Kian didn't see the deed until last night.

"Her." He corrected, "The owner's granddaughter, Valerie Perkins works at this nursing home. She's an only child, both her parents died in an accident in march two years ago. If anyone has the legal right to sell that land then it's her." Kian explained.

I nodded, "But do you think she knows it? That she's sitting on a gold mine." I asked passing the phone back to him.

He parted to lips to answer, however before he did his eyes darted across my body, particularly to the clothes I had on as per Gwen's recommendation.

"What?" he stared at my clothes for about five seconds then looked out the window, that gesture as much as I hated to admit it made me nervous.

Did he not like it?

In a calm voice he asked, "Do you have plans after this?"

"No, I don't believe I have any." I answered cautiously, wondering what that had to do with anything. I expected him to say something, but he kept his gaze on the tinted glass and didn't say another word to me until we got inside the nursing home.
