I stood near the door of Felix’s laboratory. Felix was seated at his desk with his cousin Tyler standing between us. I would have preferred to be closer, but I didn’t want to risk causing any more harm than I already had.
Tyler was applying some kind of thick, green paste to Felix’s face. The cheek underneath was swollen, and an ugly shade of purple.
“There,” Tyler said as he applied the last of the paste. “Let that sit for three hours, and you’ll be good as new.”
Felix nodded. “Thank you, Tyler,” he mumbled.
Tyler returned his cousin’s nod. “I’ll see you later,” he said before he turned and headed for the lab door. Tyler threw a look my way as he passed me, and I could only guess it wasn’t a good one.
The door closed, and Felix and I were left alone.
“How does it feel?” I asked as I moved to stand closer.
Felix shrugged. “On a scale of one to accidently turning my right arm into a python, this is a three.”
