I watch Nettleton's old buildings rise into view as I come over a small hill. All the time I spent in the dungeon has allowed the monsters to respawn. I'm pretty strong compared to anything I'd come across in Nettleton. "I'm going to have some fun crushing scrub mobs with my skills..." I talk to no one. A curse from solitude. While I do have friends, I don't know who murdered me. Hence why I don't want to be around anyone I know. It could lead to premature death, and I have no idea if I'll come back to life in the past again.
I'm not willing to take that risk just to connect with my friends. One of which is my potential murderer. As I'm walking, I notice noise coming from Nettleton. It sounds like players. A large number. I'm betting that the group I brought here has come back with a bigger party or even guild. I can't be sure, but I want to leave this place and head to my next objective. Securing some gold, there is no way I can make a steady income yet with a shop or store, but I know of some great places that drop enough gold to serve my needs for the time being.
The clashing of swords and lights from magical spells are coming into view as I'm now stepping into the actual town. I stay in an alleyway and look towards the teleportation gate. Players are pouring out of it and joining the battle as it happens. I can sit here and wait for them to take care of all the monsters, but I also want to earn some EXP. I come out from the alley and start walking towards the closest monster. "Stupid kid!" A leader of sorts who's directing the combat decides to shout at me. I ignore him, and I lock all the monsters in the nearby area with Dark Vines.
They all die within a second from the powerful DOT of Dark Vines. I look at the leader figure, and he stares at me. That's when I notice it's a mix between players and NPC's. Looks to be a restoration mission. Sometimes abandoned places like this get fixed up and repopulated by the government in Libertas. It'd be up to the local County Holder, his name is Fiscal Voel, and he's a Baron. He's likely authorized this. It'll make him more gold after everything is restored in the end. So I can see the logic in doing this.
I walk towards the teleportation gate, and the NPC leader puts his hand on my shoulder and stops me. "I wish to have some words with you. I've never seen magic like that in my life, so you can see my hesitation to allow you to go anywhere you can do some real damage." He's a powerful NPC. I use Scan on him, and he's level 22. His health is 320. I can kill him with one Dark Burst. However, that'd cause another set of problems. I'd be killing an innocent unprovoked. That'd give me a marker allowing anyone to kill me. In a safe zone or not.
I stare into his eyes, and I watch shivers go up and down his body. His instincts are telling him I'm dangerous and shouldn't be messed with. He jumps back and draws his sword. I don't react, no need to yet. "I don't appreciate poor manners, and I'd deal with you if I didn't have to worry about getting marked. I'll let you off with a warning. Leave me alone. Tell Fiscal Voel nothing about me if you do. I'll kill everyone you know and love." While brutish and bloodthirsty, it does the job. The NPC sheaths his sword.
Unknown to Lyatt, the NPC didn't jump back from the look in his eyes. He jumped back from the Darkness leaking out from Lyatt. The NPC leader isn't the only one that saw this either. Lyatt was too focused on getting his point across before he could notice it. It's disappeared along with the threat on Lyatts well being. The Darkness is Lyatt, and Lyatt is the Darkness. Lyatt's will becomes the Darkness's will. If Lyatt wishes to intimidate and subsequentially kill. The Darkness will want the same. To whomever the target of Lyatt is. That's a scary thought, and it manifests physically.
