Chapter 19-Pageant
Sophia looked at the students and spoke.
"The founding anniversary of our academy is next week."
"I'm sure it's a great opportunity for you to earn points and win rewards."
The students' eyes lit up with excitement.
The anniversary was always a time for many thrilling events and competitions, offering numerous prizes. It was their chance to shine.
Many people would be watching, including the dean and possibly some prominent figures from outside the academy.
"Just like previous anniversaries, every department will compete to see which one can win the most medals,"
Sophia continued. "Last year, our department came in second to last in the number of medals won, so I hope many of you will participate and give your best effort to win."
Sophia could see the excitement in their eyes as she spoke.
Last year, the Mage Department had ranked first, earning numerous rewards.
"I will personally award those who win and bring glory to our department," she said.
She was competitive and hated losing.
They lost last year because she had been busy commanding troops in the empire, leaving her vice leader in charge of the department.
When she found out they had ranked second to last, she punished the vice leader, feeling deeply ashamed.
She still remembered the mocking laughter of Prof. Donald, who had boasted about their victory, and it still irritated her.
The students cheered, their enthusiasm growing as they anticipated the rewards.
"Looks like I need to train hard for the competition," one student said.
"Yes, we must not slack off; maybe we can win," another added.
"Hahaha, it's time to show my hidden talent."
"Maybe we'll catch the attention of the higher-ups and become their disciples."
The room buzzed with excitement as the students looked forward to the upcoming competition.
"Ehem, quiet"
Sophia shouted, and the students fell silent, turning their attention to her.
"There is a new competition this year, and only two students will be chosen to participate."
"It was suggested by the dean to boost students' confidence."
Sophia looked directly at Dwight and continued, "The competition is a pageant, and I will select one boy and one girl to represent our department."
Dwight, feeling uneasy under her gaze, decided to make a discreet exit.
However, Sophia's announcement stopped him in his tracks.
"I have already selected the participants for the pageant: Dwight Starlight and Beatrice Enchantress."
Dwight knew his strong intuition had been correct.
He was outstanding in terms of looks, and it seemed inevitable that he would be chosen.
"Damn it," he cursed inwardly.
He had wanted to stay low-key, but it seemed his plans were unraveling.
He thought briefly about using fate magic to see if someone was manipulating his destiny, but he knew no one could alter fate unless they reached his level.
Maybe he was just unlucky.
Sophia watched Dwight, noticing his attempt to escape, but she was determined not to let him get away.
She was confident that with Dwight participating, they had a strong chance of winning the competition.
"Please come forward," she said.
Reluctantly, Dwight composed himself and walked toward her.
He saw Beatrice Enchantress approaching as well.
She was a beautiful woman with pink hair and an alluring figure.
Dwight recognized her as his batchmate, ranked 11th in the S-class, though he hadn't paid much attention to her before.
As they stood before Sophia, the students in the crowd began to understand why they had been chosen.
"Wow, is that young master Dwight? I didn't realize he was with us all along," a woman exclaimed.
Her shout triggered a wave of reactions from the other girls.
"I love you, young master Dwight!"
"Stop dreaming; your face isn't worthy of him."
"Young master Dwight, please give me your autograph!"
"If I were kissed by young master Dwight, I could die in peace."
The male students were stunned, unable to reconcile the notorious lazy young master of the Starlight Clan with the person before them.
They couldn't help but notice Beatrice as well.
"Is she from the Beauty Clan?" one student asked.
"Yes, her surname is Enchantress, and her name suits her perfectly," another replied.
The Beauty Clan was also powerful, though not as influential as the Starlight Clan.
They were known for their charm and beauty, so they had many connections with other clans.
Prof. Sophia felt satisfied and said to Dwight and Beatrice, "You will represent our department, so do your best."
Beatrice nodded, her face expressionless as if she had already expected this.
Dwight, on the other hand, shook his head and replied, "I don't want to join."
Prof. Sophia looked at him with a deadly glare and spoke, "What did you say?"
Dwight replied, "I don't want to join. Are you deaf? I'm right here."
Prof. Sophia smiled and addressed the students in front of her.
"Okay, they will represent our department."
"You can now leave, but Dwight and Beatrice will stay."
The students were stunned because Dwight had replied to a professor as if they were on the same level.
Seeing that she was getting angry, they quickly left the room, not wanting to face the wrath of their professor.
Beatrice was also stunned. Even though Dwight had a high status like her, she would never have answered a professor like that.
She wasn't a fan of Dwight, but she had to admit that his looks were the best she had ever seen.
After the students had left, Prof. Sophia looked at Dwight.
Her smile suddenly vanished and was replaced with anger.
"You—"
She was furious and wanted to give him a lesson, but when she remembered what the dean had told her, she restrained herself.
She composed herself and said, "You will join the competition whether you like it or not."
"Both of you will stay here, discuss your strategy, and get to know each other."
"I will lock this place, and you cannot escape, Dwight."
After saying this, she disappeared, leaving both of them in the room.
Once she left, the atmosphere grew awkward, with just a man and a woman alone in the room.
Beatrice noticed that Dwight was not interested in joining the competition and didn't even seem attracted to her looks.
"So, what should we do?" she asked, trying to break the silence.
Dwight shrugged and said, "Nothing. I'll just sleep, so mind your own business."
Dwight took out a blanket from his space ring and spread it on the floor.
He also took out some pillows and lay down on them, ready to sleep.
Beatrice was stunned; she hadn't expected him to bring such things inside his space ring.
"You really don't seem to care about your reputation as the lazy young master, huh?"
Dwight looked at her plainly and said, "So what? Don't try to use tricks on me; I hate people who use manipulation skills."
"What? I don't know what Young Master Dwight is talking about,"
Beatrice said, confused.
"Tsk tsk, trying to use charm magic in front of me, huh?"
Dwight sneered, having noticed it when Sophia left the room.
Beatrice was stunned. She hadn't expected him to notice it.
She smiled and sat down on the blanket Dwight had laid out on the ground.
She stared at Dwight's handsome face and spoke.
"I didn't know Young Master Dwight was strong enough to notice it. Are you just pretending to be a lazy young master, but in reality, a strong guy?"
She was curious, feeling that the rumors about him might not be true.
Dwight replied plainly, "Well, I'm not strong, but you should blame your poor skills. You're an amateur."
Dwight had mastered all magic and skills that existed, including charm magic.
However, he didn't need to use it when he became a god, as his looks were already beyond anyone's reach.
If others tried to use charm magic to control his mind completely, he would have decimated them.
But the skill she was using was weak and could only make him answer her questions.
Beatrice was stunned but not angry about the criticism.
"You are really something."
Dwight ignored her, closed his eyes, and decided to sleep.
Beatrice found the man in front of her quite interesting.
Since birth, she had been pampered by her parents, essentially a princess in her clan, with many trying to gain her attention.
Her father had said she had a good physique that made her attractive and able to charm anyone with weak willpower.
She had tried to use charm on him to ask some questions but didn't expect his willpower to be strong enough to remain unaffected by her charm.
