As Kyle hopped out of bed on Friday morning, Kai watched his every action.
Unfortunately, no easy targets had passed by their home this past week, forcing Kai to act on his own.
As Kyle was getting dressed, Kai began to test his ability to hijack what was now their shared body.
Kyle attempted to put his left leg into his pants, completely taken aback when his right leg seemed to move instead. He froze, or at least, could've sworn his body should've.
His right leg slid into the pants, and then his left, and then he stood still.
With a shaky breath, Kyle tucked in his shirt and buckled his belt.
'The hell was that!? Maybe I really did hit my head last Thursday!'
Ignoring his fear, he exited his home, locked the front door, and hopped into his car.
Kai took the time and effort to carefully memorize each and every motion, movement, and memorized routine there was to driving. Who knew if he'd ever have to drive again?
Kai's stomach rumbled. He could practically taste Kyle's fear, but was hesitant to consume any of his host's emotions.
Learning the hard way was usually not worth the knowledge gained.
His patience was admirable, if misguided.
He watched through the first hour, still unable to comprehend the idea of math, when his hunger became too painful to ignore.
He got up from his position in Kyle's mind and prepared himself to take action.
Throughout second hour, as Kyle played football, he waited patiently for the opportunity to feed. None came.
Halfway through third hour spanish class, he felt he could wait no longer.
~~~~
Kyle watched his right hand raise itself of it's own volition.
He tried to gulp down his fear before realizing his throat was moving on it's own as well.
He blinked.
"Mr.Whitaker, is there anything I can do for you?"
Kyle's stomach dropped when he heard his voice begin to speak words that were not his own.
"Yes, Mrs.Velasquez, may I please use the restroom?"
Kyle did not seem to understand the importance of these words until after the teacher replied. "Yes, you may go."
Confusion turned to greater fear as his legs began to carry him out of the classroom, away from anyone who might be able to save him.
~~~~
Kai took control of most of Kyle's body, steering him to the restroom. It took more energy than he would've expected after the ease of the prior week.
Almost as if a reminder, his stomach growled.
He wandered the halls, waiting for the tell-tale signs of a good meal. A shorter student hustled past him in the empty halls, head down, unaware of his surroundings.
Perfect.
Kai tailed him, knowing he was headed someplace secluded to likely have a good cry. The student chose the men's restroom on the lower floor by the cafeteria.
Kai slipped into the restroom inconspicuously as possible. As he passed through the doorway, he heard a set of footsteps inside. He instinctively changed pace to hide the sound of his own.
Turning the privacy corner, he laid eyes upon the student, who was in the process of closing the door.
'No!'
Kai lunged, barely preventing the door from shutting.
The student looked up, seeming to register him for the first time.
"No… Kyle, I promise I didn't do anything this time! Please! Please don't hurt me again!"
Unfortunately for the student, Kyle's star athlete body was strong enough to prevent his desperate attempts to close the door.
Kai's stomach growled once again, and this time pain surged throughout his body. He flinched.
The student regained some of the distance he had lost on the door, but it was already too late.
With a final push, Kai was inside the stall.
He pushed himself against the wall as he pulled the door shut behind him. Grabbing onto the student, he lifted him up and switched positions, putting himself closer to the toilet.
He gripped the student's wrists, hopefully strongly enough to hold him there until he could stun him via satiating his hunger, and left Kyle's body.
Kai sped around to directly behind the student as Kyle released the poor sophomore's wrists.
The victim's eyes glazed over as Kai began to feed upon his fear.
This stillness did little to phase Kyle, who was doing his best to escape.
By the time Kyle was beginning to unlock the door, Kai was revitalized. As Kyle walked out through Kai's invisible body, Kai let himself sink back down inside his host.
Kyle, still in a panic, tried to leave the restroom, but Kai walked him over to the sink and washed their currently shared hands.
The student was still in the stall, sitting there, staring off into what seemed to be nothingness.
With his hands washed clean, Kai let Kyle walk out of the bathroom knowing he would have to be more wary of Kyle's future interference.
Nobody could know of his existence, and by extension, the fact that some of Kyle's actions were not his own.
Tonight, they would need to have a nice long talk.
Another short chapter, yes, but this cliffhanger was too good to not use!
G3 has taught me well
I feel that I have finally hit the vibe I originally wanted to give this story. Writing a villain has always appealed to me, but is incredibly hard as I myself struggle to put my needs above the wants of others. Perhaps that is why I've always enjoyed stories from the POV of someone with the courage to do what I cannot.
Anyways, I'm really excited to get more into the power system. Maybe someday Kai will even learn to feel guilt for all the problems he's going to cause ;)
