The Betrayal

"Why would you do something like this Remus? I thought we were brothers and I trusted you with everything" said king Silas while on bended knee panting, due to an earlier sword wound from his younger brother Remus on his chest. A brother he trusted, a brother he thought would have his back in the face of any sort of danger.

"Maybe, that was a mistake on your part" said Remus, "you see after all these years of you lording over the entire kingdom from the safety of your nice little palace, I as an opportunist, have been planning this for many years, I have been replaying this moment in my head for many years", he said looking at his brother on his knee with a look of disdain, one would find it hard to believe that they were brothers at this point. "Thinking about the right words to say to you right at this point that I have you at the tip of my sword, but honestly right now, it no longer matters, all that matters is killing you and getting it over with", he said looking at him while shrugging his shoulder in a nonchalant manner.

He then walked towards the throne in an even stride, one could describe the look in his eyes with one word "satisfaction", he stood in front of the throne looking at it for a few seconds before reaching out his right hand to caress it like one would caress a baby before moving closer to sit on it, after sitting down, one could see a form of pleased expression on his face, "I want to know what it feels like to sit down here while I look at the people I rule, I want to know what that kind of power which you've held for a long time feels like".

"But I gave you power" King Silas shouted with a look of disbelieve in his eyes, "I made you the commander of the whole army, that's what you've always wanted".

"NO", bellowed Remus in anger standing up and walking slowly towards King Silas, "that's what you've always believed, I knew I had no power, I knew I had no choice but to obediently follow you", he shouted at him, "but if you want to really know what I want, I will tell you" he squatted down closer to his brother so as to look him straight in the eyes, "I WANT TO BE KING" he shouted this at the top of his lungs out of anger making king Silas move back a little accompanied by some grunts. "And now I shall have my wish, but to do that, I have to kill you, kill your queen and that little prince of yours, after that, nobody will be left to stop me" he said with a trace of a wicked smile on his face before emitting a loud laughter while standing up, "sorry brother for sending you along first but I promise to send your family along with you soon" he raised his sword bringing it down in an arc towards his throat, killing him with a single strike.

For almost a minute he stood there looking at his corpse before turning around to look at his men, "Find the queen and the prince, bring them both here quick" on hearing this, five men rushed out of the throne room to do as told. But as they were about to exit the room he called them back, "Wait" he called walking slowly towards them "You don't necessarily have to bring them back here, just kill them and get it over with" he said nonchalantly smiling as he looked at them before waiving his hand at them to leave. 

While this was going on, one of the king's trusted guards was peeping through the door leading to the side, seeing everything that's transpired, he was shocked and afraid, he had to hold his breadth as he tiptoed to leave to find the queen due to fearing being discovered due to his breath. After getting to the room the queen was hiding with the prince, he said with a trace of fear in his voice. "Your majesty, you have to leave right now, you have to leave the palace, it is no longer safe" he said not looking at the queen but with his head bowed. Queen Minerva gave him a questioning look, "Why? The king told us to stay here, he assured me we will be safer here" the guard fell on his knees "Your majesty, The king has fallen at the hands of his brother" he sobbed with traces of tears on his face. Shock was registered on the queen's face; she couldn't believe what she just heard from the guard "you must be joking right? How can the king be dead?" she said laughing but one could tell that the laugh is a cry just exhibiting itself in a different form. "Your majesty how can I dare to lie to you? Prince Remus has killed his brother and right now he has sent someone to look for you and the little prince" he said hastily "So we must leave here as soon as possible because that's the only way to safe you and the prince".

The queen as if a switch was flipped in her head immediately scooped up the little prince who is just a little month over a year old, immediately she looked towards the guard with an expectant look, the guard understood the look and immediately started leading them out, immediately after stepping out of the room, they were met by twenty four pair of eyes, these twelve individuals are trusted guards of the king, "follow me your majesty" said the guard. "I know of a shortcut of the palace". These new twelve guards and the previous one quickly surrounded the queen and guided her out and they kept moving stealthily while looking out for any trouble, they kept moving towards the north gate, but they did not pass the normal route, instead they passed through the servant quarters. The queen looked around her surroundings as she walked, the guard looked back and told her "They won't think to look for us in this area your majesty" but as reality would have it, as they stepped out of the corner, they were accosted by some men looking at them like they were food about to be consumed.
