The next day, Amy woke up feeling sad. She has to sort things at work for an easy transfer; she has to finish all her scheduled surgeries and figure out how to look for Jim's contact information. This will be her last week in Korea.
The thought of leaving Korea without telling Jim goodbye kills her. 'Just when my life is taking a good turn, I have to say goodbye.' Amy sighed in desperation.
"Good morning Dr. Amy. Do you want to run your schedule soon?" Jen asked.
"Yes, please, in 5," Amy said and walked inside her office, her heart longing.
5 minutes later, Jen walked into her office and started discussing Amy's schedule for the day.
"You need to sign these papers saying your job for the research is done. Also, Dr. Cha called; he said he sent you an email regarding details of the position he was hoping you'd accept. Other executives all over Asia did as well." Jen explained
"Print out Dr. Cha's email and have it on my desk asap. The rest of the email from other executives you can print, sort, and add little background check on how they ran their hospitals," Amy directed.
"Noted. Also, you are needed at the operation theater for a supervised surgery at 10- information about this surgery is already on your right. At 1pm, meeting with other directors. 2pm- rounds. 3pm- craniotomy/theater 2. And Ummm, AD biomedicine magazine wants to do a feature on you, they emailed me the concept of the interview, and it should be on your left," Jen continued.
"Thanks, Jen, and do you perhaps have the contact information I asked you about?" Amy asked.
"No, but the HR team said they could hand me the list a little after 10 today." Jen proudly replied.
"Thanks, Jen. I'll call you when I need you," Amy said and picked up the case study of the operation that she was about to observe and supervise."
Around 9am, and almost done taking notes and writing comments on the case study she was assigned, Amy's personal phone rang.
'That's weird; no one usually calls me during work hours, ' Amy thought as she looked at the unknown number.
"Hello?" Amy answered.
"Amy, it's me. I'm in the parking lot of your hospital. Do you have a minute to see me?" Amy immediately recognized his voice.
"Where exactly?" Amy said, looking at her wristwatch. She got less than 30 mins until the operation.
After hanging up, Amy grabbed her lab gown and started running toward the parking lot. When she got there, she saw him standing beside a luxurious van, looking at his phone. Jim was wearing a mask, a hat, and a thick puffy coat that covered up his knee.
"Jim," Amy called and threw herself into Jim's embrace. Jim smiled and hugged her in response.
"At first, I didn't believe you when you said you look different in your hospital gown," said Jim teasing Amy blushed. "You look like an Angel," Jim said, kissing her forehead.
"Why are you here? Something wrong?" Amy asked worriedly. "Are you okay?"
"I have to leave today. Turns out, we have to stop and make an appearance somewhere before our concerts. We will have to stay out of the country for at least two weeks. I just came to say goodbye and to ask if you…." Jim confessed, looking sad.
"Dr. Amy Fitzgerald, you are needed in theater 4. Dr. Amy Fitzgerald, you are needed in theater 4," an announcement from the intercom interrupted Jim.
"I will wait for you," Amy said abruptly, making Jim blush. His ears turn crimson red. "I, too, have something to say, but I need to go right now. You have a safe trip," Amy said wistfully. Amy smiled and hugged Jim one more time.
When Jim opened his car door, she saw at least 4 people inside. 'They must have heard their conversation' Amy's eyes widened, embarrassed.
"Hi noona," a young idol said.
"This is Min Ho. Manager Wang. Bodyguards Jake and Alex," Jim pointed to everyone as they said their hellos, respectively.
"Hello, my name is Amy. Nice to see you all, and I wish you safe travels," Amy blurted as she stood there embarrassed and gobsmacked at the presence of the people she only saw on tv.
"I think they're calling you again," Jim said
"They are… I'll call later" Jim hugged Amy one more time. Amy bowed at everyone as she waved goodbye and ran towards the building.
The operation lasted 30 mins past noon. Jen reminded Amy that her lunch was in her office and that the meeting with the directors would start in 30 mins.
While eating her lunch, she looked at today's meeting agenda documents and sighed.
She's uncomfortable sitting with other directors; not only they're very dismissive of her- 'I mean, how can a 28-year-old, and a woman at that, have a say on what's going on in this hospital ran by middle-aged, successful doctors.' Amy frowned at the thought.
Around 8 in the evening, Amy finally sat down in her office. She still has some papers to read and review.
"Dr. Amy?" Jen knocked
"Jen, you're still here?" Amy was surprised.
"Yeah, there were some things that needed to be done," she said, handing out piles of documents to Amy. "These are the documents regarding the hospitals you told me about; I included notable scandal regarding how they treat their patients and run their hospital." Jen handed out a pile of paper to Amy
"This is the directory for all the people who attended the ball; names, email, and contacts should be there. I tried giving it to you earlier but you were so busy. Also this is the case studies for tomorrow." Jen said.
"Is there more?" Amy asked Jen as she felt like she wanted to say something. "There is- AD magazine called again-"
"Reject them" Amy didn't even let Jen finish. All throughout Amy's career, Amy denied all publicity offers. She's scared that her scandal with Noah will resurface once she puts her name out there. She doesn't want any more people tarnishing her reputation.
"But I think this time it's really great. The magazine understands your work, and they want more people to know you and the great things you've done."Jen pleaded.
"That's great, but I don't want more people to know me," Amy said firmly. "If that's all there is for today, you can go home now. Thanks for your hard work, Jen" Amy smiled, knowing Jen was curious why she had always rejected offers like this.
"Good night Dr. Amy; see you tomorrow," Jen said and walked out the room.
Alone in her office, Amy remembered that she had promised to call Jim. She reached for her phone and saw that there were 3 missed calls from Jim and a text message that said
**tried getting a hold of you. I hope you've eaten a healthy heart meal. Thinking of you
'I wondered how he got my number' Amy thought. Not thinking much more into it, Amy smiled as she held her phone close to her heart and replied.
**Still in the hospital. I'll make sure to warm the tteokboki we bought once I get home. xo
