The Hunter's Mate

I grew older knowing supernatural creatures. For example, I could tell a vampire if I see one. It was strange that I was more powerful than any of them. At first, I thought I was one of them but the more I studied about them, the more it gave me reasons to doubt that I was like them. I gave up trying to find the race I belonged to, so I went about my daily life living like humans. But my world began to crumble when I found my mate. He is a warlock of the witch's coven and one of the mermaid hunters. Through him, I started to find who I really am and my purpose on earth.

Chapter 43: How dare she?.

I was beginning to feel a little tipsy after the last drink from the whiskey. I would take two shots when the bottle stood out between I and Ethan.

I was beginning to suspect him because the bottle always chose between I and Ethan. He would dare me with a disgusting thing to do with him. I would glare or squint my eyes shut at him.

Some moments later, I sighed, fed up when the bottle chose I and Ethan again. I look at Ava who looked like she had the same thought running through my mind.

"Ethan, are you perhaps trying to get under her pants by using this game?." Ava asked, while others snickered in a laugh. I glare at them for finding this quite hilarious.

"I like her and would like to go down with her." He unashamedly stated. I curl my lips together and try not to do something stupid that I might regret later. "I hate you, do you know that?." I said between gritted teeth.

"I've fucked all the girls who hated me."

An oo ooh escape everyone lips and so i decided it was useless speaking to him.

"She has a mate, Ethan. Not the one you think it's a mere bond, you can't even stand the bond they share, so if you think you could go down this lane, believe me you won't stand the circumstances." Ava scolded him.

Well, the only sensible person among them. I smiled at how she stood out for me and for a moment, she reminded me of Molly, the only girl who's been through thick and thin with me, and Cali Jeane, a nice soul.

Not anyone talked after Ava spoke, Olivia was the first to stand and Diane followed, "Night Y'all, thank you for a great evening." Olivia said and they exit the arena together.

Everyone started to leave one after the other after Ethan stupidly spoilt the air around here.

I stood up, feeling dizzy as the beer was starting to take over my senses. Ava led me out yet and we started walking to the lot.

The field which was once filled with people was empty. The only thing seen were bottles of beers littered all over the place.

The moon had shown light into the dark field so we were able to walk without stumbling over.

As we reached the castle, Ava led me to the room, even when I try to protest against it. I had studied the castle and I can find my room with no help from anyone, but she said I was drunk, and she wanted to make sure I was safe tonight.

We stood and waited for Stefan to open the door. Few seconds later, a sleeping Stefan opened the door and I walked in, pushing him behind, not wanting to notice the expression on his face.

I exhaustedly went flat on the bed and the only thing I remembered was Stefan pulling off my shoes.

The next morning, I opened my eyes to find Stefan watching me. He had this serene and arid look. I groaned when I feel like a whole log of wood were on top of me. The last night's escapades replaying like a movie.

"Freshen up, we are called in for breakfast." His voice was cold and he didn't look like he wanted a conversation with me. I simply walked into the bathroom and when I came out, he was putting on fresh clothes. I wondered where he got his clothes from, as he didn't come to the castle with any. And then, I did not bother him about it, seeing how mean he looked.

Just when I was about packing my hair into its normal bun, I heard a girl scream. I try to ignore but another scream came, louder than before. A few thudding noises followed, it became certain this was coming from the castle. Then clash, clash, clash.

My heart raced, what could be going on?. I questioned myself. Then I felt pain in my abdomen, I stumbled and sat on the bed. I feel strange that I was starting to hear things, though I stood up deciding to make sure there was nothing going on.

I opened the door and looked out, sure there were voices down the second floor. "Let him go, hunter boy." Madame Maggie's voice rang into my head and then it clicked, "Hunter boy."

I ran as fast as I could to the second floor and towards the few people peeping into the room. I stepped towards the door and I froze at the horrible sight before me.

Ethan was covered with blood while Stefan stood before him, pressing him to the wall and doing what I never thought possible. Blood was oozing out of Ethan's eyes and nose, dripping down like a river. The sight was just horrible to watch.

"Please do something or he kills him." A young girl cried and that was when I realized that someone was dying. "Stefan please." I started but stopped midway when his dark fierce eyes snapped at me. I took a step back in fear. This is not my mate.

Just when I was beginning to get confused, a girl ran forward and quickly pressed a syringe into Stefan's neck.

Stefan slowly dropped Ethan and staggered back. I watched him fall onto the floor and lose consciousness. I ran to his body and knelt beside his body, when I touched him, I felt him cold and my heart thumped.

I stood transfixed and watched him unconsciously on the cold floor. Voices were heard inside the room but I only focused on my mate's lifeless body. I looked up and asked, "What did you do to him?."

The young girl disengaged from the hug which had taken place between her and Madame Maggret. She turned and looked down at me, "I just made him unconscious since he was losing his mind. And who the fuck are you?." She returned the question and I raised my brows. How dare she?.

This girl walked into this room, made my mate good as dead and she dared to ask me who I was. Like she was nonchalant about it. How dare she?
