Well, seeing Republic City in real life sure beats watching it through a screen.
The city looked like a city from my past life that just entered the industrial revolution. Cars, factories and businessmen could be seen on the streets of the city, heading to their respective workplaces. The streets were different from the industrial revolution cities in my previous world due to having lightning benders powering the city. I kept seeing them in heavy duty outfits and wearing a metal mask, heading towards the factories coming back from presumably their lunch break. It's crazy that lightning which was only available to the fire nation royal family in Aang's time became common practice nowadays. I mean, there has to be some laws in place to keep them in place as they could cause some serious destruction with the lightning.
'Not like they can get through my earth and lava.' I thought smugly as I continued riding through the streets on Mira's back garnering strange looks from passersby.
That's right, I was viewing the city while riding on a giant mole anteater wolf looking thing while wearing worn and torn clothes with messy hair. To say the least that I looked like a caveman would be an understatement, heck I even felt that there were twigs and leaves in my hair from all the seismic sense training with Toph and me being rough handled. As Mira and I were walking through the streets, some people would look at us with fear and some treated me like a country bumpkin slewing me telling me to go back to my village and all that crap but once they saw a growling Mira who heard what they said they immediately shut up and ran away almost pissing their pants. I laughed at that and continued towards my destination which was the police station. I didn't mind the insults as in my past life I was insulted for being an emotionless freak so I pretty used to the dark side of humanity.
Anyways, it looked like my appearance garnered the attention of the police as suddenly I heard metal whips being shot out and clinging to buildings from both behind and in front of me. A couple seconds later 10 policemen wearing grey and striped metal armour and green armoured police hats/helmets came landing down and surrounding me and Mira. I was startled at first by the sudden amount of people that were surrounding me but looking at who they were made me relaxed as these guys could lead me to my destination. Finally, the person who looked like he was the captain came up to me and talked.
"Halt! Get off the beast and raise your hand! State your intentions for coming to Republic City and place of origin!" yelled the captain in an intimidating tone as the other policemen readied their metalbending whip stances in case things got ugly.
Mira growled, smelling that there were a lot of people surrounding her and her friend/master and was ready to attack on command. I soothed her by stroking her back and she visibly calmed down from her tense state. I slowly got off Mira so that I didn't startle the officers and proceeded to calmly raise my hands like what the captain asked for.
"Good day officers, my name is Kizan Beifong and I was sent here by my grandmother to talk to the current Chief of Police. I come from a small village in the Earth Kingdom and left due to having no remaining family living there." I calmly said while I pulled out the letter Toph gave me before I left so that they could see the Chief of Police seal and the Beifong family crest.
I stated my full name as well reason being one, that it was going to be revealed sooner or later and two, there was no reason to hide it and it could make them lower their suspicion of me as I didn't want to deal with the famous Lin Beifong interrogation.
The officers were surprised that I was a Beifong and were even more surprised that the founder and previous Chief of Police Toph sent him to Republic City. From the reports of the Beifong family the family only consists of their current Chief and her sister and her children who were sent to Zaofu though the reason why was put under 'classified'. They were told to show them respect when they entered the city and though not exempt from the law, have certain perks that benefit them. Due to that almost all the officers knew the Beifong family faces and the person in front of them was not one of the faces they knew.
'Things are more complicated than we thought.' thought the officers as they cautiously examined both the kid and his beast in front of them.
The captain cautiously approached me and took the letter, not opening it, but examined the seals to check if they were authentic. After checking that it was indeed legit, he gave me the letter back. He stepped back and gave me a salute and when the officers saw that they immediately lowered their guard and followed their captain saluting as well. I immediately told them to stop as I didn't want to accept a salute without gaining any merits. I was not like those arrogant young masters who were dainty and useless and accepted praise that what their predecessors did. Although I wished to be born in this family, it was only for the reason for a large family and a way where I could step off into my career, not for asslickers to hound me day in and day out. I at least wanted to earn my merit so that I had proof to back up those praises.
Anyways, after that whole ordeal, they calmly led me and Mira to the police station. Once I got there, I was met with a sight that would make me assume most criminals piss their pants. Officers were exiting and entering the building, either giving their daily reports to their superiors, writing their reports on a typewriter, or more excitingly, handing in arrested criminals. I marveled at the sight of an ordered system of going in, out and the response to emergencies.
Once I came in the vicinity of the police station, I and Mira garnered looks again but this time instead of curiosity, we got vigilance as if they would be ready to attack if I manage to try something funny. I just shrugged my shoulders as I expected this to happen and continued forward until I entered the building. I had to leave Mira outside for obvious reasons so I soothed Mira that it would be fine and the captain asked 5 of his officers to stand guard so that they could protect the beast from sudden actions or protect people if she decided to attack. I gave a low whistle to tell her everything was fine and I entered the building.
The captain separated from our group and came to the front desk where he asked for the chief to come down and have a look at their situation. I didn't hear what exactly he said but I heard he mentioned my name and the receptionist looked surprised and gave me a look of curiosity. She then immediately took out what I assume is a very, very old version of a phone and she talked into it, probably calling Lin down. I waited for 5 mins and just when I thought I was probably stood up I saw an intimidating woman come down the stairs. She had gray hair that was arranged in such a way that it framed her face and congregated at the back. She had a tough guy-like stare that ultimately reminded me of Toph as they both had the same serious face. She had light green eyes that seemed to look through any lies and deception with a cold hard stare. And to top it off she had two streaks on her right cheek which I knew was a scar from Suyin Beifong, her half-sister. She was also wearing a different uniform than the rest of the officers as hers was a black vest like armour with the Chief of Police badge on the left side of her chest.
Lin came down the stairs and locked eyes with mine. I could see her scrutinizing gaze trying to examine me from head to toe and see if she could get a reaction out of me. I knew she was trying to intimidate me but it didn't work as I had plans to do in this world and I won't let a pair of eyes scare me out of it. So, I glared at her back, returning the gaze. She seemed surprised that I didn't shiver or cry like the other kids when she stared at them and it brought a subtle smirk on her face.
"You must be the rumored Beifong kid I've heard about from my subordinate, come with me since I have some questions for you." Lin said as she gestured towards me in her office.
Lin's office was pretty standard with the desk at the front of the room with piles of paperwork stacked upon one another waiting for it to be read and signed. There were no pictures of family anywhere which made sense because she didn't exactly have the best relationship with her family. Other than that there was a radio for her to listen to the news and receive emergencies as well as some cupboards adding to the very organized feel of the room. I sat down at the desk while Lin took her chair.
"Now, I hear that Toph gave you a letter that's meant for me?." she asked as she gestured for me to take out the letter. I took out the letter and gave it to her. Like the officers before, she examined the seal of both the Chief of Police and the Beifong insignias before nodding to herself and proceeded to open the letter. Inside was just a sheet of paper with some words on it and she immediately placed it on the desk so I couldn't see through the paper and read the words, not like I needed to cause I knew what was on the letter since Toph told me.
`She really does take her job seriously huh.' I thought as I just looked at her facial expressions as I wanted to see how she would react regarding my lineage.
I saw her eyes narrowed at times and completely shocked looks at others, I even saw her have a fearful look as she glanced at me before continuing on to read the letter. Once she was done she gave out a tired sigh as though she was dealing with something tiresome and looked at me with a serious face.
"Your one troublesome kid aren't you, not only did I discover that I had an uncle the whole time, that guy even married a Diamond Clan member and had a kid which is both my cousin and one of the most feared earthbenders out there who could lava bend. That guy also married an equally as feared water bender and had a kid which inherited both his lava bending and possibly Diamond bending from your grandmother's clan. And you also managed to be a descendant of an Avatar Kiyoshi. I don't know if I should consider you lucky or cursed with having a lineage such as that." sighed Lin as she still had an unbelieving look on her face. I could even hear her mutter that there was a Beifong in prison even though her mother didn't want any family members in the slammers.
I still sat there confused. Even though I knew of my lineage because I wished for it, I could still see the fear and awe she had when mentioning the Diamond Clan. For even her, the stoic and cold hearted officer to feel fear made me question what type of changes I brought to this world just by existing.
'What the hell did that damn god do?' I thought annoyedly. I knew I wished for fun and drama in this world but adding a whole clan which even the woman in front of me fears is kinda over the top.
After muttering to herself a little bit, Lin finally started to speak.
"I'm going to break it hard for you kid, there is no way your parents are going to be released anytime soon. Even though they were coerced, they still tried to kidnap and harm the current Avatar which is a major crime. You are looking at a minimum jail time of about 15 years and that's not including the harm they could do if they were let out due to their bending abilities which could add about 5 more years depending what they do next. Plus, with Ghazan being a descendant of the Diamond Clan could put both your family as well as the city in danger. I will petition for them to get out as I could say we have proof he is a Beifong and was coerced but the council will probably still null the status due to the threat he poses. I'm sorry." Lin explained and apologized with a sad tone as she knew what it was like to live in the absence of her parents, one of them not even being there and the other always busy at work. She could imagine it would be worse for me as they were incarcerated for almost a fish of their lives.
Although I knew what the answer would be regarding my parents release, I still held that tiny bit of hope that something might change with me here but sadly it didn't come to fruition. I just sighed and held my head low for sometime, a tear threatening to come out but I held it in. I felt sad and helpless that I couldn't do anything for them. I moped around for a couple minutes before taking a deep breath and firming my gaze at her. She seemed impressed that I didn't weep like other kids and felt that I was more mature than others my age. She had a good impression of me and felt that the action she would do next wasn't so bad.
"Due to your parents not being here, I will be your legal guardian for now as I'm the only one currently here that is considered family to you. I didn't get to introduce myself earlier but my name is Lin Beifong, you can either call me Lin or Aunt Lin, whatever works for you. We will be leaving after my work ends and get the identity papers done as well. We also have to register that…'pet'... of yours that's currently sleeping in the middle of the training yard. Like seriously, how the hell did you manage to find a creature that was said to be extinct? Anyways after that we will get you settled in and get you out of those rags." Lin patiently explained to me and I felt grateful she was going out of her way for me even though she was supposed to because she was now my guardian.
I guess this will be the start of my adventure in Republic City.
"Ah, I almost forgot, I have to register you in school as well." Lin said which made my face instantly change.
….Wat?....

[A/N]
Well this is where his journey in Republic City will start. Again, the love interest will be both Asami and Korra and cuck Mako. Chronologically, Asami will come first then Korra. Also tell me how you find my novel as I just listed off some ideas and worked with that. Give reviews so this gets into the rating.
As always, thanks for reading and have a good day.
