Chapter 46: A Cozier Place

“Where is she?” Henry muttered when he got back from the dance floor. Daphne wasn’t at the table and not seeing Arno there as well, he became anxious.

He walked around the club to see if he could spot them. He even checked the Queens jazz room and they were nowhere to be found. Now he was truly concerned -- could Arno have brought her someplace else?

When he told Marjorie about it, she immediately went to the ladies to have a look. There was no sign of Daphne, but she spoke to some of the cleaning staff along the way and gathered some disturbing news. Alarmed, she hurried back to Henry and reported what she had found out.

“One of the cleaning ladies told me she saw a pretty young woman leaving with a big-sized European guy. She was involved in some sort of altercation with several boys, and he came to her rescue. It happened just outside the toilet, apparently. It must be Daphne!”
