Ify looked at the envelop in her hand. A smile crept into her lips. Her aunt was indeed a genius. If the video won’t hold K for long and his mother was already having a double mind about her, then this was the only way to make the mother not interfere in her relationship with K, “pregnancy”. It doesn’t matter what K says, no one would believe him. They would think he was only trying to deny her. Besides, who would believe that they have been staying together in the same house for the past two months and nothing has happened between them. Even she herself finds it hard to believe.
Ify decided she will let out the fake news when everyone was around. They will be having a family dinner soon. It was a perfect time for her to harness. K’s parents will be there, his sister Temitope will be there as well as her fiancé. Two good things in the family that would give K’s mother a heart attack. Ify laughed. She was already suffering a heart attack everyday knowing she has no other option but to let Temitope and Austin get married if she does not want to suffer worst shame.
She puts the envelope containing the pregnancy test result in her back and walked out of the hospital. The test and the results were real, the only difference is that it is not hers. She placed her name in another person’s result. Well, she paid for it, so?
Ify got into the car in which she came with. Since she has been in Lagos, she has been enjoying being taken around by a driver. She could even say this is her car since the Governor’s wife said she could use it anytime and any day.
She asked the driver to take her home, referring to K’s house as home. When they got on the road, she called her mother shrieking over the phone when her mother answered.
“Mom!” She shrieked. The mother asked her if that was the greeting she gets or she has lost her manners in Lagos.
“Good afternoon ma!” Ify greeted. The mother replied with “better”. Ify asked her mother if she was on break or she did not go to work at all. The mother told her she would no longer be going to work. Ify thought the mother was joking.
“Let me hear that you did not go to work. Mom, you that is a workaholic”. Ify said.
“I will be submitting my resignation tomorrow. Your father wants me to quit. And beside, I think it’s okay. After all, I have a school from which I’m earning money”. The mother said to Ify from the other end of the phone. Ify wanted to ask why the father asked her mother to resign, but she did not want to spoil her mood. Her father could be domineering sometimes.
“Mom guess what?” Ify said feigning excitement. She hoped it sounded real enough and her mother won’t find out she’s acting.
