Christian could not focus on driving because Lanre kept crying. He decided to find a place to park in order to avoid having another accident. He asked her if she was crying because of K. She shook her head. He asked her if it was because Ify was now pregnant and it seems she no longer stand a chance of getting K.
“Are you stupid? In this modern world, pregnancy is not a means to make a guy marry you, unless he is not a complete wack. I’m not crying because of that. I just remembered something while I was dear and could not help the tears”. Lanre said. Christian called her out for lying.
“It’s showing all over you that you are lying”. Christian said to her. Lanre bows her head whilst fiddling with her fingers. She could not say what was so heavy in her heart. Christian’s right even though not entirely. She was partly crying because Ify was pregnant and she was not sure if it’s true. But K did not deny it. He was just quiet, doesn’t it mean he is responsible? Even if not, they must have been intimate with each other. Lanre sniffled.
“Take me home with you”. Lanre said to Christian. He looked at her. Did she really just ask him to her home with him?
“What about your own place?” Christian asked her. She shook her bowed head. He asked her to lift it up. He could not see her face like that. She raised up her head with a forced smile. She told him to take her with him.
“Lets be friends with benefit for tonight. Then we forget about everything by morning”. Lanre said. Christian was taken by surprise. He did not expect she would say that. He told her he would drop her off or probably get a taxi to take her home.
“What? I thought you love me? You are backing out on a one night stand with me, this should be your chance!” Lanre said. She scoffs. She thought she looked too pitiful. She got out of the car and walked towards the road.
Christian felt himself under pressure. He hits the steering wheel. He did not know how to manage this. Should he let his feelings rule over his head or should he be logical at this moment? It was difficult, coming to a conclusion on what to do.
He got out of the car and went after Lanre who was already walking as though she would trek it down to Igando caring less about taking a taxi. He was not even sure she knows what she’s doing. He grab her hand when he reached her.
“Lanre, come with me, I will drop you off at your place. It’s not like you can walk all the way from here to Igando. Besides, it’s not safe being outside alone by this time of the night”. Christian said to Lanre. She pulled her hand from his grasp. She was still crying. The tears already flooded her face.
