Chapter 4 - Hurt

So we began this crusade of a nihilistic mind that is yet to be sparked.Norman is still in his early stages of figuring out what his purpose is.It seems like some adults can't understand how a boy so young can be thinking like this.Well what they fail to see is what occurs behind closed doors.What every person in this planet has in common is one thing, a dysfunctional family.Some are too blinded to see it or to ashamed to admit it but everyone has a rotten piece that keeps the family drama going.You'd have aunts gossip and uncles acting like they didn't care but listened in.Well Norman was the latest drama in the family, Norma hated it.

Norma visited her sister Kelly who lived a few miles from her.She arrived as she knocked on the door,

"Hey !" They said to each other as she entered,

"Gosh you're looking good…," said Kelly as they went for the living room.She lived in a two-story home with a nice interior decor you'd see in tv sitcom homes.The living room had a table made of marble and a big wide screen tv with a fire place beneath it.They sat down on a white-stained couch with two white-stained pillows on both sides.The only way to explain the atmosphere is picture what heaven looks like.Kelly had two cups of tea ready as Kelly asked

"So how's Norman been ?"

This is a clear sign to Norma that she's heard things from some other relatives.

"He's been good, doing great in school and is thinking of working but I just keep saying to him not yet, he's too young "

They both smiled and laughed, they're both hiding their hatred for each other. They both took sips as they looked away, Kelly turned back and then asked

"Oh that's good, real good-did you hear about Janis's child ?"

Norma was confused and interested in the drama as she asked

"No what ?"

Kelly prepared as she put her cup down in the coaster and explained,

"Well her son broke into a middle school and set a trashcan on fire it nearly burned down one of the buildings- I mean Christ that's insane-"

Norma gasped and asked

"My god, which child ?"

Kelly got her tea cup again and responded

"The youngest one who dyed his hair, what was it ?"

They sounded like they were playing a game of charades as Norma said

"James, Ronald, George ?-"

To each one Kelly responded no until Norma said

"Freddie ?" Kelly nodded as they both synchronized and said

"Freddie …."

Freddie Cochran was a boy who was born in California but moved to Colorado due to the death of his grandparents.His whole family moved for two reasons, the funeral and a new life.Freddie didn't like this as on his 15th birthday in 2016 he got arrested for assault and battery on another boy in school.The boy made fun of his hair and said he looked feminine, Freddie didn't like that.

Well after that Freddie was such a different person, his parents couldn't stand him but what's a parent to do with a son of theirs.Freddie's done all sorts of idiotic things that the police would be at their front door every week.It's sad to say that Freddie wasn't alright in the head, he was always the talk of the town amongst his family and others who knew them, Those others were Kelly and Norma.

"Oh that damn Freddie, I pray for that boy "

Said Norma as they each took sips of their tea.What Norma said is about to set up a whole mess of trouble in the conversation to be.

"Yes I do too…..you know that boy got sent to one of those mental hospitals and he came out even worse ….."

this set the tone, Norma knew she wasn't here to talk about Freddie.Norma sighed in anger as Kelly asked

"So I don't wanna push it now but I heard about Norman …."

Norma placed the cup on the Coaster, got up and said

"Nope, no no-"

Kelly got up too as she still carried the cup and asked

"Wait where you going ?, come on Norma it's nothing to be ashamed of -"

Norma tried to open the front door quickly but it was locked, she embarrassingly took off the locks as Kelly said

"Look let's just talk about this Norma, you know this is exactly how Dad was-"

Norma had the door open as she only turned when she heard what she said,

"You don't ever compare my dear boy to dad, that's just low Kelly !"

This frightened Kelly as Norma stormed off, Kelly stood at the door as she stared at her in disgust.Norma drove off home as she was saddened by this, she cried on the drive home.

She arrived to seeing Norman in front of the home with a small folding chair.He's sitting there with a coke bottle and a bag of gummy sour worms.He notices as she pulls into the driveway,

"Hey Ma !" He waved as she kindly waved back as she still had that "I just cried " aftermath face, you know what I mean.She got out as she walked by and asked

"What are you doing Norman ?"

He took a sip in peace as he replied

"Just enjoying the life mom …."

She nodded as she entered, she was worrisome but shrugged it off.Norman sat there as he felt enlightened, more happy as he sees a man walking his dog.Norman was wearing a denim jacket and pants, accompanied with black boots and a plain white t shirt; it was a casual look.The man passed by as the dog stopped,

"Oh sorry about that " said the man as the dog sniffed around,

"Oh it's alright, it's a nice dog -" responded Norman until it started barking at him after getting Norman scent.Norman jumped as the man pulled the dog away with its leash,

"Christ I'm sorry man, he's not usually like that …"

Norman apologized as he responded

"No no I'm sorry man, it's okay …."

The man felt confused as he said laughingly

"Oh you got nothing to apologize for man Hehe "

Norman and the man kept eye contact as Norman had a eagles eye on him, the man felt weirded out as he started to walk away as he nicely said

"Have a nice day "The man walked a bit More faster as the dog tried to catch up, Norman was now plotting.

Another boring Wednesday for Norman as school has became an annoyance.He rarely goes as his parents have set him up for a simple system the state has allowed, he's learning online now.He does it every weekday from 9am-2pm, he hates it.He's sitting in his room as it's still well-organized and he still loathes how they changed it.He is finishing up class as the teacher says

"Alright have a good day class-" Norman quickly left as he got up and began to take off his clothes.He stayed in his underwear as he stared in the mirror, he was disappointed.As he wrote in his journal

"September 21, 2022

I strongly hate my body at the moment, I'm too fat; I'm a fat piece of shit.I look at guys online and see how amazing they look, I must make a difference.I eat like shit and act like shit; beginning today I shall make that change.Working out everyday and not eating poorly, dietary is such a big part of it.I hate how I see the way people online are glorifying obesity, it's such a burden.I don't want to have a heart attack at 40 and have people wonder why. "

So Norman began to change himself, he looked up many ways to work out at home and asked his mother to help him with his diet.In this time of workout he began to change his demeanor as he changed his room.He bought himself a new tv and new window curtains, it was light blue striped pattern.He changed the carpeting as it was now a dark brown carpet.

He made the whole room look like his old room, he had new posters and framed artwork.He had little miniature action figures of many pop culture references.Some of many popular movies and popular trends at the time.Norman was never big on these type of things I mean he'd never been inside a real movie theater; he never experienced that satisfaction.After this whole transformation of his room, Norman looked around to the areas where he'd cause pain.Where his Guinea pig got killed, where the cat was bastardized.It seems almost maddening that his parents have seen no traces of what's occur or at least any authorities grew suspicious of these; Christ at least a garbage man getting a glance when dumping it.

Norman laid on his bed as he stared at the ceiling and put on his headphones.He started listened to

"Piggy " by Nine Inch Nails as he started to drift away into his own mind.He got up as he also had a different hobby, collecting.He collected all sorts of handyman tools, from screwdrivers to different types of hammers.Many drills and different drill bits and even some rope and a different sizes of razors and knifes.He looked through this box of wonders as he noticed two pair of brass knuckles he'd forgotten he got his hands on.He smirked as he knew what was to come will be his new life.
