After completing the deal with Hasselbaink, John didn't return to Leicester because he still had a meeting scheduled at 5 p.m. Taking a look at his watch, he found out that there were still three hours remaining. So he decided to visit Amanda.
Amanda had took over Baker corporation and was currently its CEO.
John was waiting for her in a cafe when John heard his phone ringing. He took it out to see it was Michael who was calling.
"Hello, Michael" John said after receiving the phone call.
"Hello, John" Michael replied in an exhausting voice.
"What is it?" John asked Michael.
"Well, I have already convinced Andy Griffin to join Leicester for a salary of 200,000 pounds annually, but he is only willing to sign a two year contract." Michael said to John.
200,000 pounds anually was honestly a bargain for a starting caliber player who was just playing Premier League football and was still 28. John guessed he was looking at Leicester as a stopgap to rekindle his career after losing his place in the Premier League.
"Although our plan was to have him sign a three year contract, two years is fine too." John said to Michael in an appreciative tone.
"But I've run in some trouble regarding Begovic's transfer." Michael said in a concerned voice.
"What happened?" John asked Michael.
"Well, my guess was right. They don't have a place for him in their squad, but they want to loan him out rather than selling." Michael explained the situation to John.
"How much did you offer?" John asked Michael. Michael had estimated the transfer would cost somewhere near 300,000 pounds but it looked like they would have to spend more if they wanted to sign him,
"350,000 pounds" Michael replied. He had gone over his estimated price but they still weren't budging.
"Submit a final offer of 500,000 pounds. If they refuse, then no need to negotiate further." John said to Michael.
"Okay" replied Michael with a renewed vigor as John hung up.
As John put the phone back in his pocket, he looked that his sister was standing behind him.
"You've finally grown up." Amanda said to John in an exaggerated tone.
John didn't know how to reply to this. After transmigrating to this body, most of his time was spent in Leicester. He wasn't that familiar withh Amanda. The only things he knew about her were from new memories, which wasn't much. It looked like John and Amanda weren't close, that's probably why she never suspected him.
"You don't have to say it like that." John said in an attempt to make her quiet down as he looked around the cafe, embarassed.
"Come on, give me a hug." Amanda said to John as she approached John.
Then an awkward hug ensued in the middle of a cafe.
"That was awkward." Amanda replied with a tone that didn't show that.
"What did you expect?" John said to her.
"So, how's life in Leicester?" Amanda asked John as they sat down.
"Well, it's been going pretty well. I've found out that sitting in a seat for too long can be pretty uncomfortable." John replied before thinking what the hell did he just say and why was he so comfortable around her.
"Yeah, that is true." Amanda replied John before continuing, "I've heard you are working pretty hard in Leicester. Are you alright?"
John rolled his eyes before asking, "How have you heard?"
"Sean told me. After father's death, he has been calling regularly to check up. But you haven't called me once." Amanda said in a sad voice.
John looked down guiltily before a sorry came out of his mouth. He didn't know if it was because he wasn't there for Amanda or the fact that he didn't feel anything about Phil Baker, his father's death.
After a moment of uncomfortable silence, Amanda spoke first to break the silence, "Anyways, how is your new job as a president of a football club going?"
After that, their conversation kept going for a long time before Amanda had to leave for an appointment.
"You should have told me earlier you were coming to London. I could've cleared my schedule. And don't forget to call me once in a while." Amanda said to John as she left. In response, John could only nod his head.
John looked at his watch again, there was only half an hour left before meeting, so John sat down again to wait for the other party to arrive.
