He stayed behind as she turned on her heel and started walking away. She hadn't taken more than a couple of steps when she heard the sound of meat against meat. She didn't turn around, she didn't need to know what had happened.
James had seen Askeladd. An ordinary human would have raised the monster alarm instantly, now... a human with a very personal hatred? They would be lucky if they managed to reach the limits of the town without being stopped or attacked.
Light footsteps followed her and out of the corner of her eye, she watched the wolf again in his puppy form follow her steps.
"Can all monsters speak in beast form?" She asked when they left the rickety gate of the Cornfield estate behind.
Sascha managed to lead them both through the less traveled paths between the various estates in the Village.
"Not." He replied. "It takes an overwhelming amount of control and skill to keep human vocal cords in beast form."
