With a smirk embracing my lips, I continued to gaze at her retreating figure as she put some distance in between us. I shifted my gaze to the football in my hands and juggled it a little in between my palms. The more I stared at the small grids on its surface, the wider my smile got.
Even if it wasn't willing, she had given herself away before me. There was no way that a human being could manage to garner that much force in a single throw. Especially if it was a woman in question.
Her throw alone had left me baffled when I sensed the speed with which the football was coming in my direction. If it wasn't for my heightened senses, it would have slipped right through my fingers. And the impact? I didn't even want to start on it.
Grabbing the hem of my jersey, I pulled it up a little which only left me shocked. 'Damn, woman!' I thought to myself as eyes landed on the blaring red mark on my upper abdomen. I couldn't help but pity my poor body.
'What is with this woman and hurting me?'
I shook my head sideways as her little disappearing stunt from the previous day popped up in my mind.
I had just returned to the stands after gearing up when I saw the three empty chairs in the middle of the first row. At first I thought she might have gone to some quiet place to attend a call and didn't bother to ask my teammates who were sitting there.
Throughout the game, my eyes kept drifting to the three empty seats with hopes that this time, they might land on her figure instead of the empty seat. But to my dismay, they landed on the same empty space every time I turned my head in that direction. And before the half time arrived, the feeling of distress was converted to pure and utter rage which was burning my insides.
No one in my one hundred and fifty two years of life had managed to make me feel me this way. I was an angel after all. I wasn't supposed to feel anger. But what was about that woman that made me react so differently. I had never felt this way even when Dana was involved.
I was only being a douchebag towards her earlier all because her actions from yesterday hurt me. Hurt would be the most suitable word to describe my current situation. I accepted that I was only being interested in getting to know her because of my own selfish reasons, but there was definitely something about her which pulled me towards her.
'Is she really my soulmate?'
She ought to be the one, or else she wouldn't have that much hold on my emotions. What did I see in her which led me to bind my soul to hers?
I had to accept that she was a beauty, a beauty which couldn't be compared to anyone else. But I was definitely not that shallow to go after someone's looks. There had to be something else which I saw in her. But why couldn't I recall it?
"Caw, caw!"
I was forced to step outside the world of my own thoughts when something wet and warm made contact with my forehead.
I looked up at the sky and saw a black shadow flying by. Without a doubt, I knew what it was, and I wouldn't be shocked if it was the same stupid bird from the other day. What did I do wrong to these damn crows to deserve this?
"Damn!"
"Yukkkk."
"Eh!"
"That's so gross."
The voices coming from behind me, forced me to turn around. Seeing the distorted facial expressions of my friends, I couldn't help but scoff.
"Don't look at me as if this has never happened to you before." I shouted from the distance only to see them scrunching their noses more as they shook their heads in a no.
"At least not twice in the same week."
One of them spoke up as he mocked me and the others only bobbed their heads up and down.
I narrowed my eyes at him as I recalled how he had seen me with Amara the other day and shared the news with every member of the team. He didn't forget to mention that a bird pooped on my head when I was busy talking to her, trying to woo her. And for the last two days, everyone on the team had been teasing me.
"Shut it, Michael!" I yelled at him from the distance and threw the ball at him using a small fraction of my real strength.
"Damn it, man! Go easy on me." I saw him catch the ball, but I was sure that the impact must have done some damage. I could tell it from the way he was trying his best not to groan.
Well, it served him right for outing me to the whole team including our head coach. And now everyone was teasing me for not performing well in the match. We did win it though, but the win had nothing to do with me.
"I will go and take care of it." I pointed my index finger towards my forehead which only earned me some mocking laughs in response. Shaking my head sideways, I turned around and began to head towards the changing room. I needed to wipe it clean and wash my face.
With hurried footsteps, I walked away from the field as an idea popped in my mind. I could use the moment to sneak away from more practice and confront her about yesterday.
I might have to thank that stupid bird for this. If it wasn't for the bird blessing me, I would have been stuck with those boys for all day long. Now, I could go and have a chat with my 'soulmate'. I could at least try to make her at ease around me before breaking the big news to her.
