After approaching the first two rows in the stands which were reserved for the players, I cleared my throat a little just to get the man's attention who was busy talking to his friend.
"Hey!" I greeted him in a flat tone when I saw him turning around with my usual blank, expressionless face.
"You did come." He extended his hand towards me as his eyes widened a little in surprise with the corners of his lips curling up in a bright smile. I tried to keep my eyes focused on his face, but I had to accept the fact that he indeed looked much more athletic in that fitted dark green jersey of his, and that the color complimented well with his skin.
"Of course, I did. I gave you my word yesterday, didn't I?" I rolled my eyes as to why he was acting so surprised, but I still took his extended hand and gave it a shake before letting it go.
"I thought you might not come as you clearly stated how much you hate being in a crowded place, and we have a full house here." He answered me, his words followed by a shrug as he gave me an apologetic look. "But I really am glad to see you here." He gave me another one of his full watt smiles, showing off his pearly white teeth.
"You can say that I am a woman of my words." I added with a proud smirk. "Well, best of luck for your game then." Raising both of my thumbs up in the air, I wished him luck. I was about to walk away from him after saying my part when I felt a tug at my elbow.
"Where are you going?" I heard him say as the smile on his face was replaced by a frown.
"I was just going to sit over there." I pointed my chin in the direction of the other stands where there were less people in comparison. My words only made his frown deepened.
"Just like you are a woman of your words, I am also a man of my words. I saved you a front row with the substitutes." I followed his line of sight as he pointed towards the centre of the front row of the stands, and saw three empty seats. I gave him a questioning look while wondering to myself as to who did the third seat belonged to.
As if reading the question running through my mind, he patted the top of my head with his free hand. "I thought you hated being too close to others, so the seat in the centre is for you while the other two won't be occupied by anyone." He gave me a lop-sided grin.
I wanted to question his actions as there was no need for him to act like this. I accepted the fact that I didn't like crowded places because I hated being too close to people, humans precisely. But there was no need for him to arrange for two empty chairs on either side of me. That was just too much. I also didn't like being around humans, but there I was, living with them, sharing a room with one, and trying to get along with them as peacefully as I can.
"You can take care of my bag too while I play. I don't trust these boys with it at all." His words brought me out of my thoughts and I nodded my head.
"Thank you, but there was no need for you to go to that extent. I could have just sat up there and enjoyed the game." I shook my head sideways. I was thankful for his concern, but wasn't that just too much? 'Humans are so… weird at times. I can never figure them out.' Even after spending so long among them, I couldn't utterly get an understanding of what goes inside that thick skull of theirs.
"Well, I couldn't let my friend suffer. Even if she says she wants to sit all alone in the front row, I will make it come true." He stated as a matter of fact. "I have to go now, I need to gear up more. I will see you later." He added as his friend who had been staring at me til now, whispered something in his ear. "Don't forget to cheer for me." With these words, he walked away with his friend in tow probably to the team's dressing room.
I let my eyes roam around rows of seats only to see a couple of pairs of eyes staring at me which were filled with curiosity. Without a doubt, I could tell that they must be wondering about what a weird looking girl like me was doing here and talking to the team's quarterback with so much ease.
Well, they could keep on wondering til the game ends. With these thoughts running through my mind, I made my way to the three empty seats waiting for me, and settled down on the middle one just like he had asked me to.
Leaning myself against the cheap quality plastic seat's back, I rested my arm on the back of the seat which was on my right as it had a black backpack resting on it. I placed the palm of my hand over its surface in a protective stance, but as soon as my skin made contact with it, I regretted my actions right away.
