Gregg Raines was wearing his full armor, including his dragon-shaped helmet. Dragoons traditionally mastered long-ranged weaponry and close-quarters combat. They were required to master spears and halberds, but they also managed swords to increase combat proficiency. Gregg had a lance with him, and boy, was he proficient with it... Andreza found the pointy end of the lance cutting at least three strands of her hair (he was aiming for her neck to cut off her head, but she reacted quickly enough to avoid that).
