After that she returned to the academy and immediately went to the headmaster
"sir may I ask you some questions" she said
"of course what can I do for you Athena" this was one of those old headmasters who knew literally everyone and called every student by their first names
"I would like some information on Christopher Thurston" she said his face instantly darkened at the name
"poor boy" he said
"sir" Athena asked
"come with me and I will fully explain or at least to the best of my ability" the headmaster stated and he lead her to a place where he was sure they were to be alone
"I only know small parts of this story if you want to know the full and true account you'll have to get the information from him yourself do you understand" headmaster arclight asked
"yes sir" Athena said
"to begin then is that you have picked the best candidate possible he has every aspect a rider could hope for and more you may be the first dragon to seek him out but you weren't the first academy member we have been trying to get him into this academy for two years since he came to the age where he could learn at our academy as you must he riders must be at least fifteen years of age to come to this academy for safety reasons however what you may not know is that the elder council considered making an exception because of the boy's skill now enough of the analytical background lets go personal" the headmaster stopped for a moment she looked at him and waited patiently where he cleared his throat and continued
"to start with thurston isn't his last name his full name actually is actually Christopher St Rogers" the headmaster stated this shocked considering his files stated that he was so kind and considerate yet his entire family was known to be first really good riders but also really cruel riders who treated their dragons as nothing but slaves that carry them around be it into battle or just place to place and over all like horses
"and now you hit the nail right in the head on why he rejected you" the headmaster said she looked at him with a confused expression
"sir" Athena asked
"I'm certain your thinking right now was that he must be evil only wanting you to be his slave and that he isn't want his files say at all right" the headmaster asked she reluctantly nodded
"let tell you how wrong you are that boy is the kindest soul you'll ever meet he's considerate he's modest he's brave he's loyal he's dedicated but not obsessed he is the definition of a good person he even tries to be as selfless as possible" the headmaster said this simply shocked how could a person from the St rogers family be such a good person she was thinking but she could tell the headmaster wasn't joking or lying
"the reason he rejected you is because he is afraid" the headmaster said
"ha what could he be afraid of" Athena asked
"being a bad partner and hurting you now I stated that he was a good person but I didn't tell you his upbringing he was taught and used to keyword being used to be like the others of the St rogers family he was taught how to ride a dragon at a very early age a believe they started at four for both their children but he was the eldest and the heir to the family so he was of course taught everything he needed to and he was taught how the rest of the family rode dragons and he picked it up rather quickly they learned he was a natural who belonged on the back of a dragon he treated them badly but what he didn't know until he turned twelve was how the dragon felt since all of the dragons the St rogers had were taught at an early age to not speak unless spoken to and I think you know how they were taught" the headmaster said she nodded
"so for the longest time he thought what he was doing was okay and to be expected one day however he and his sister who was a few months younger then him were sparing of course on dragon back and he pulled on the reins in multiple different directions to do a maneuver but he was being to fast and to harsh causing the dragon to whimper now the dragons of the family were taught to take beating so when they whimper something is wrong he didn't want to show any sympathy with the dragon towards his family for obvious reasons so he acted as if nothing happened and continued the spar but after that when they rode into the stable he stayed mounted on the dragon whole his sister left now remember when I said he was a natural what I didn't tell you was that he also enjoyed just sitting there on the dragon either on the ground or just gliding through the air his family new this so when his sister saw her brother just sit there she didnt say a word and left after he wasn't certain she was gone he dismounted and for the first time ever he had a chat with his dragon it was then he learned how cruel he had been but he had two problems at the time the first was that he was only eleven years old the second was that he hadn't finished combat training yet so he asked his dragon if he could deal with it for another few years while he finished his training wherein he could take the beast leave and set it free the dragon hearing the plan agreed and so the next four years went on and when he turned fifteen he grabbed some clothes and left for the stable mounted the dragon and left he then kept to his word and when they were a week far by dragon back he set the beast free he tried to free his sister's dragon but she just thought they would be recaught and tortured for trying to run away so he declined to go with after that he hadn't ridden a dragon ever since" the headmaster said his story concluded
"thank you for telling me sir" Athena said he nodded and she spread her wings and took off
