"Mmm!" I moaned loudly as the chocolate melted into my tongue. I love chocolate. Something I might have mentioned last night. This is so good. I took another bite still with my eyes close savoring the very delicious treat in my hand with ardor.
I opened my eyes to find Cassius staring at me strongly and blushed hotly. He looked away immediately when he realized that I was looking at him.
"These are so good," I muttered with food still in my mouth.
He returned his attention to me. A teasing glint in his brown eyes. "You made that clear," he smiled.
I blushed and smiled to.
"So are you someone's mistress?" he said out of the blue.
I choked.
"What?" I gasped looking at him with a frown on my forehead.
"I am sorry. Maybe I misunderstood," he retracted quickly.
"Misunderstood what? You are not making sense Cassius." I stared at him intently to explain. There was no anger in my voice, just the need to understand.
"The call from your best friend she said something..."
I didn't let him finish before I said. "Oh that. Sophie was just joking. She talks like that," I said with a nervous laughter that I hoped he didn't pick on, promising myself to murder my best friend later.
She and her big mouth will definitely get me in trouble one day.
He looked physically relieved that I arched a brow at him.
"I am sorry. Not judging, but I also do not want to trespass into another man's property."
I opened my mouth to make a reply when my phone pinged.
It was an email from Amelia.
How did she get my email? As soon as the thought occurred to me I answered it with an internal roll of my eyes. She is Amelia of course she has my email.
I opened her email and frowned at what she sent.
"Read this carefully you will need it tomorrow."
I couldn't resist checking out what she sent so I clicked on the attachment.
"Is everything alright?" Cassius asked.
"Yeah, yeah," I answered distractedly my attention on the document Amelia sent. It was my application to her husband's office.
I scoffed when I saw that she has written that I attended a university, and I studied arts.
Arts, I scoffed out loud, moving my fingers around the buttons of my phone rapidly as I sent her a very worded, but very brief reply.
"I can't fucking draw to save my life. Why the fuck did you say that...
"Are you sure you are okay?"
I paused my typing to answer Cassius.
"Yeah. Just a friend of mine being ridiculous."
I went back to my typing. Frowning as I finished the words.
"That I studied arts. What if they ask something about arts. And don't get me started on the name on the application. Who is Channel Stone? Did you submit someone else application for me? And then all these places that you said I have worked as a secretary. I don't bloody know who they are. I am a hooker for fuck sake. What if I get the job they will think that I have experience and will expect me to be very proficient and when they aren't seeing that they will fire me."
I was so agitated by the content of her email that I let my fingers fly and when I was done pouring out my frustration about her dumping all these on me with no warning I pressed sent and then exhaled deeply like I just ran a marathon, and then dropped my phone on the counter
"All sorted?"
I looked at Cassius. "What?"
He pointed at my phone on the counter and said. "Whatever that was that had you typing like you wanted to murder the person," he finished with a smile.
I might, I thought to myself, outwardly, I said. "Yeah. It is nothing. Just a job interview I have tomorrow."
"Really!" His face brightened with curiosity. "Where?"
I opened my mouth to say where when I realized that I don't even know the name of the company Amelia's husband works at.
"I am sorry. It is all very new. A friend of mine submitted my application without telling me, so I don't know the name of the company."
"Why would your friend do that?"
Because she is crazy, and wants me to seduce her husband.
"Because I am currently out of job and needs something fast. So she was helping," I forced a smile, knowing very well that help was no where in the reason why Amelia did what she did.
"Let me guess, it is the same friend that got you this apartment."
I looked up sharply at Cassius, a suspicious feeling inside me, wondering if he knows something, but all he had on his face was a light smile, and innocent look. "Why did you say that?"
I straightened from the counter. "Well, a friend that helped you set up this apartment must care for you a lot, likewise the one that helped you with you application, so I assumed they are one and the same person."
Amelia care about me. I wanted to laugh at his assumption. The only thing that woman cares about is herself, and probably taking her husband down for whatever shitty reason she has.
"I wouldn't exactly say she cares, more like helping achieve a goal."
"She?"
The way he said it got my attention and I looked at him with a raised brow.
"Sorry, just thought it was your boyfriend."
"Nah. I am single."
"That is good," I heard him mumble under his voice just as my phone started ringing. I turned it around to check the screen.
It was Tony.
Without casting another look I returned the phone back to its position and let it ring.
"Aren't you going to get that?" Cassius asked when the phone continued to ring and ring.
"Nope," I popped the p sound, picking up the phone. I pressed the red button ending the call.
"So no work today?"
He shook his head. "I have evening shift."
I nodded.
"You?"
"I don't have a job," I teased humorously.
He rolled his eyes affectionately. "I know. I am asking what you are going to do for the rest of the day."
Probably get myself acquainted with this double identity Amelia just dumped on me.
"Probably prepare for my interview."
"Oh, yes. Let me get out of your hair then," he got to his feet. "We don't want you to flunk the interview," he added with a smile.
"I might," I grumbled nervously under my breathe. I don't know shit about being a secretary, and some how Amelia wants me to perform miracle tomorrow.
Well, for two and half million, I have to pull one out of my ass.
"Hey, you don't need to worry about it. I am sure you will be great."
I snapped out of my thought and slowly dragged my eyes to meet Cassius eyes. "How do you know?"
His expression softened before he answered. "You are a lovely and intelligent woman. I am sure you will charm them with your mind tomorrow."
I stared at him touched by his words. No one has ever thought me intelligent. It has always been about my looks. But staring into his deep brown eyes I had the feeling that he sees me beyond my physical appearance.
"Thank you," I said, my voice slightly thick with emotions.
"You are welcome," he replied softly, still holding my eyes.
A little tension cropped up between us as we stared at each other. Cassius was the first to look away.
"I will take my leave now."
"I will walk you to the door."
Together we walked to the door. He opened it and walked out and then turned to face me. I leaned my body against the bar and waited for his words.
"Good luck," he said with a smile.
"Thank you. And thank you for the pastries," I returned his smile.
"No worries," he smiled at me and then walked away.
I waited until he was inside his apartment before I closed my door.
The rest of the day I spent it studying everything Amelia sent me.
The next morning I was woken up the feel of sunlight filtering into my room through the windows.
I opened my eyes lazily feeling like I have all the time in the whole world to wake up, and then a ding went off in my head.
The interview!
I flew off my bed and ran to the bathroom, throwing off my night wear as I ran.
"Shit! shit! Shit!" I chanted as I rushed into the shower. Amelia will have my head if I miss this interview.
I screamed bloody murder when the cold water from the shower head fell over me.
Five minutes in shower I was out and running around my room like a headless chicken trying to find where everything is.
I opened the closet to find the clothes were arranged according to function.
OCD, I thought going for the suit section.
I hurried out of my apartment while trying to pack my hair into a ponytail.
When I arrived in front of the building I was almost five minutes late.
In my rush to get to where I am going I ran into someone that sent falling backwards until a hand caught me by the waist.
I looked up at the person to find Amelia's husband staring down at me.
