As the sun rose, Ulrich uttered in a raspy voice, "I can't ask you and your team to take this on."
With her voice tight with an edge of concerted control, Mora pushed her shoulders back and kept walking. "I think I've made it clear. This is what we do. The reason we exist."
"You didn't sign on for certain death."
Flipping back, her hair loosened in its tight braid. "Actually, I did. That's my life. I made a choice when I turned eighteen to dedicate my life to this." She inhaled forcefully before continuing. Ulrich's jaw ticked rapidly with a fury that matched hers. "It won't be easy. I'll give you that. I'll call in my team. We'll train, we'll hit the books. We'll eliminate the threat because it must be done."
Stopping in front of her, Ulrich growled as he said, "Not every problem can be solved by well-read, heavily armed demon hunters. Mora, that–" He stopped abruptly, biting his tongue to prevent blurting out something he'd regret.
