Blessed Oracle! I thought to myself as I stared at Corion who lay unmoving in my arms. I tried to get him to wake up again, but he still didn't stir in my arms. I stared down at my hands which were still bloody from holding him.
How on earth could this have happened? I thought supernatural creatures don't get hurt! I mean I know they do but still, they have rapid healing abilities so how on earth did the prince get injured? I asked myself starting to feel even more afraid when suddenly, I heard the click of the door.
A startled gasp escaped my lips as the door finally opened, I had expected it to be the guards but it was just Reagan and Anya. The moment Anya saw me with the prince, she crossed the room with inhuman speed and before I could react, she grabbed me by my throat and shoved me hard against the wall.
A wince escaped my lips from the impact of my head being shoved hard against the wall. I grabbed Anya's hand trying to remove it from my throat but she snarled at me and shoved me hard against the wall again.
"What the fuck did you do?" Anya snarled at me and I noticed she now had veins around her face and her blue eyes had darkened.
I tried to speak, but Anya squeezed my neck tight, restricting my airflow. It was getting harder for me to breathe. I couldn't breathe. I could also feel myself starting to get dizzy. Just when I thought that I was going to pass out, Anya was suddenly shoved off me.
I collapsed down to the ground, greedily gulping air into my aching lungs. I glanced around only to see that Reagan had moved Corion to his bed.
"Let her go, Anya, you know she didn't do this," Regan stated softly as he held Anya who was still busy shooting me death glares.
"Yeah, but it's still are fucking fault!" She snarled at me still struggling against Reagan.
Blinking at her in confusion, I slowly raised myself from the ground. "How is it my fault? I didn't do anything to him." Not like I could even do anything to him! I muse as I stare at the prince.
"Yeah, it's what you didn't do that landed him in this mess!" Anya snarled at me, confusing me further.
Reagan whirled her around so she could look at him, "Listen to me Anya, there's no time." He said a note of urgency in his voice, "You must heal him now before Aspen starts getting suspicious of his bride getting missing."
Anya threw me a look that suggested I stay far away from her before she rushed towards Corion. She heaved herself up on the bed and I watched as he reached inside her corset to bring out a small vile containing dark red liquid. I couldn't stop myself from inching closer from curiosity.
I watched as Anya drew Corion up into a sitting position then she opened the vial while muttering some spells into it and placed it on Corion's lips.
"No," A weak protest escaped Corion's lips.
"There's no time Corion." Anya hissed at him but Corion still shook his head.
"I…I don't want ah to see mee lak dwees…" Corion's words were slurred but I had a good idea what he meant, I don't want her to see me like this!
Anya and Reagan cast me a look before Anya turned back to Corion. "You don't have much of a choice now do you?"
Holding his head backward, Anya poured the small vial with the blood inside Corion's mouth. When she was done, she laid him back on the bed. I watched in silence as Anya began to remove Corion's shirt, my heart pounding with a mixture of curiosity and concern. As she turned him on his back, my breath caught in my throat at the sight of the angry red welts that crisscrossed his skin. It looked as though he had been beaten repeatedly, and the wounds showed no sign of healing.
"That fucking evil bastard!" Anya growled out.
Unable to stop myself, I stepped forward, my voice barely above a whisper as I asked, "Wha…" I breathed out unable to for words as I stared at Corion's bleeding back, "What happened?"
Anya's expression darkened as she glanced at me, a mixture of sadness and anger in her eyes. "You expect me to believe you don't know what happened? He got punished because you if only you hadn't been such a righteous stuck-up bitch this wouldn't have happened!"
"Wait, hold on, I…I don't understand…" I breathed struggling to come to terms with the insults Anya hauled at me, "Because of me? What do you mean by that?"
"Gods above, I can't deal!" Anya huffed out in frustration before she turned to look back at Corion, her face crumpled in sadness.
Reagan stepped forward and clasped her shoulders. "He's going to be fine, this isn't the first time."
"Yeah, but it's the first time he's drawn attention to himself because of her!" Anya replied not looking away from Corion but I could still feel the bite in her words.
"He will be fine," Reagan assured her again, "We just need him to get some rest."
Anya brushed a few strands of blonde hair that were matted to Corion's head off his face and I felt something turn in my stomach at the affectionate look in his gaze. "How can I leave him?"
"I will stay and watch over him," I spoke up before I even knew what I was doing.
Regan and Anya whipped their heads to look at me, one with understanding and weariness, the other with boiling rage and sadness.
"Watch over him?" Anya asked with a scoff, "And we are supposed to trust that you wouldn't hesitate to kill him after seeing him in this state?"
My gaze moved to where Corion was on the bed. I stared at his face which looked pale and the way he clutched the bedspread tighter in his fingers while releasing soft whimpers. "I won't!"
"What?"
I turned to look at Anya, "I will stay and take care of him, I'm not going to hurt him." I said in a firm voice, then moved towards the bathroom and went to grab a wash cloth and a bowl of water.
Anya leveled me with a hard glare when I came out of the bathroom, but I ignored her and went to sit next to the prince. I dipped the washcloth into the water and began cleaning his wounds. "You can leave now, I will take care of the prince."
"Alright then, make sure not to let anyone in," Reagan stated.
"You can't be serious!" Anya protested, "Are we seriously going to leave him here with her?"
"We don't have a choice, Anya," Regan replied in a calm voice but there's a hint of frustration in it. He then turned to look at me, "We will leave him in your hands then, and all you have to do is clean his wounds. He will heal in a few minutes or an hour. When you are done, I think you should stay far away from him, maybe go to the training room and hide out there, harm yourself if necessary."
"Harm me, what's…."
"Do not ask questions and just do as I say!" Reagan replied in a stern voice that startled me.
I nodded my head swallowing whatever questions I had, "Very well, I understand."
"Good!" Was all Reagan said before he turned and left the room with Anya giving me one last look but before I could decipher it, she went out, leaving me all alone with Corion.
"It can't be right?" I asked him, "You didn't end up this way because you saved my life right?" I asked as I stared at Corion's sleeping form.
