As the twins, Lan and Layla, made their way down the chilly hallway, the frigid air seemed to seep into their bones, causing Lan to shiver involuntarily. She hugged her maid dress tightly around herself, trying to shield against the cold. Walking a few steps behind her, Layla carried a basket of clean towels, her breath visible in the crisp morning air.
"Feels like mid-winter already," Lan murmured, her teeth chattering slightly.
Layla glanced at her twin with a nonchalant expression. "Do you think the world's coming to an end?" she remarked casually, adjusting the weight of the basket in her arms. "I've heard the seas have been wild lately, with sudden changes in tides."
"Dear, heavens. Don't say such awful things," Lan replied, her breath forming a cloud in front of her. She sighed and looked ahead, the chill lingering in the air despite their brisk pace. "I wish we'd get reassigned."
