The Brown Rose

" What if I say I want to know you more, would you allow me?" His playful expression became a bit serious then playful again. " What do you mean by that? Why should you know me more?" Confusion was evident on her face. " I meant exactly that. I want to know you better, know more than your name, how does that sound?" He asked and looked down at her from above. " There is nothing to know about me. Am just a simple girl with a boring life, well that is what most of my friends tells me. Am anti-social so yeah, absolutely nothing exciting about my life." She looked up and met his focused gaze. ***** A short story of two individuals, ......... introducing: * Isis Dada Dester; a young radio presenter. The Ford Siblings

*** GreyView city***

Huge raindrops fell heavily and blurred the visibility of the outside world. The pitter patter on the windows produced a rhythmic melody that lured one to sleep.

On the double sized bed lay a figure covered in royal blue sheets. Slow and not so audible snores could be occasionally heard.

'krrrr... krrrr... krrr'

The mobile phone placed on the bed side table rang disrupting the peace within the room. The figure on the bed stirred slightly but did not make an attempt to stop the phone's ringing.

'krrrr... krrr'

The phone continued to ring for a while before the caller finally gave up and the room resumed it's initial quietness.

*** At Heavens Kiss headquarters ***

" Are you sure that this is the correct number?" An angry male voice resonated within the spacious office room.

" That is the most recent one and I even verified it before coming here. Am a hundred percent sure that it will get through if we keep on trying."

A young man in his late twenties sat on the head chair inside the CEO's office. His hair which was combed backwards brought out the full outline of his face. His pair of brown eyes starred intently at the two other people occupying his office as if they were placed on a microscope before proceeding with his work.

His name, Louis Ford, the CEO of 'Heavens Kiss'.

Standing tall in the CBD, ' Heavens Kiss' was a well known cosmetics brand both internationally and locally.

The two small human beings occupied the corner of his office as they caused a havoc with toys of varying shapes and colours which decorated the mat.

" And the other thing, ma'am has called to inform that she is on her way to pick up the kids and will be heading home afterwards." A man dressed in a brown suit stood before Louis's desk holding a pile of documents in his hands.

Louis looked up from the booklet he was reading from and glanced at the corner before nodding his head, " Is there anything else?" He asked seeing the hesitation on the other man's face.

" Uhm, well sir there is one more thing and it concerns the... uhm... the" Ricky failed to make a complete statement as he stammered.

" If you want to say something then you better say it now or forever hold your peace" Louis indicated to a pile of documents in blue files on top of the coffee table.

Inhaling and exhaling deeply, Ricky spoke out in a single breathe, " Well Sir, It seems like we might encounter a problem with the released product batch..." Ricky couldn't finish what he wanted to say as the look on Louis's face turned grim. By now Louis's brows had furrowed as he clenched his jaws.

Not wasting much time, Ricky handed over the small report file before saying, " That's all, Sir."

With that he left the office in hurried steps as if fleeing for his dear life.

After a couple of minutes, Louis stood up as he walked to where the kids were playing. He lovingly gazed at both his nephews who were now dozing off before picking them up and walked towards the centre of the office where the coffee table, two double and one single black leather couches were stationed.

" Seems like someone is hungry" He indicated to his three years old nephew Hayden after hearing his small tummy rumble. The other boy, tossed and shifted slightly in his uncle's arms prompting Louis to let out a muffled chuckle.

' What a feeling. It feels nice being an uncle to two adorable kids. ' Louis thought before placing soft kisses on their small foreheads with a smile on his face.

" What do you want to eat, huh? How about having mini chicken and waffles. I know it's one of your favourites so I will ask mama to bring it for you."

" Yesh, hungwy" In a childish voice, Hayden nodded as he replied slowly. He patted his tummy to further emphasize his words.

Louis chuckled hearing Hayden's cute voice. This helped to alleviate his exhaustion. He took out his personal phone and dialed the contact saved ' Pumpkin'.

A familiar ringtone reached his ears as someone opened the office door and strode in.

" Trying to reach out to me? Well I guess that won't be necessary anymore as am already here." A woman's excited voice diffused within the corners of the office whilst she walked in.

Her name?

Well, Blake Ford, the little sister to Louis Ford.

" Well I can clearly see that. I wanted to ask you to bring dinner for the kids."

The drowsy Hayden upon hearing his mother's voice wrestled out of his uncle's embrace and staggered towards her, " Mama mama."

His arms opened wide as he asked to be picked up.

" Careful Hay."

Blake's brown eyes shone with glee as she rushed over to him. Her fair arms circled around his tiny body and twirled him in the air earning a soft giggle from Hayden.

" Did you miss me, cause I missed you so so badly, oh my lovelies." She tightened her hug while walking towards the couch. She planted soft kisses on the toddler's face.

" I missed you too." Louis replied as the duo approached him.

" I was talking to Hay not you." Blake took a seat opposite to Louis's and looked at the sleeping Hunter.

" But you said ' your lovelies' unless am not loved anymore. Little sisters should adore and look up to their older brothers, isn't? And that has been the case since the ancient times, right? Therefore, I guess I am expected to say ' I missed you too'."

Louis smiled at her and decided to stop teasing her,

" Anyway, what's that?" He pointed to the green plastic bag on the coffee table.

" Dinner. I stopped by 3-squares on my way here and managed to grab this. I got the spicy chicken for you and got Hunter and Hayden their favourite chicken and waffles."

" What about you, aren't you having any? I only heard you mentioning the kids and myself." A questioning look graced Louis's face.

With a soft look on her face, Blake pointed towards the serving that belonged to Louis,

" We shall be sharing that. Remember when we were kids and the three of us used to share every dish we ate and mom would always scold us. I also remember the day you got burnt when you tried to dish for yourself and elder brother."
