Chapter 9

Fifteen minutes passed by quickly and it was soon time for the staff meeting. Everyone was gathered and was awaiting the arrival of their president.

Soon Damian and Melody walked in along with Lloyd and Ezekiel. The room that was noisy before became silent instantly as they all rose to give proper respect to their president.

They all expected him to take a seat at the head of the table but he remained standing and gestured for them all to sit back down. They hesitantly took their seats.

They had never sat down while their president remained standing before. This was the first time doing that and they were skeptical about it thinking he might get annoyed and fire them knowing how bad his temperament was.

Lloyd and Ezekiel stood behind him and so did Melody. All eyes shifted to look at the woman standing next to the President and millions of questions started running through their minds.

She was the first woman that they have ever seen standing next to Damian without him flaring up and turning cold and indifferent. His attitude today was different as well. He seemed warmer and more approachable.

Was it because of the woman with him? If so then who was she and how is she related to their cold-hearted president? They looked at her trying to see if she was someone that they have met before but none could remember except for the receptionist who attended to Melody the previous day.

'I was right, after all, this woman is indeed close to President Frost' she thought and smiled at herself thanking her stars that she was not mean to the lady.

Damian turned his head slightly to look at Melody and gestured for her to come and stand next to him and she did without question. After that, he turned back to face all of his employees and his expression became stern before he began speaking.

"I will make this quick". He said. His voice came out cold and authoritative making everyone's attention shift to him.

"This is Melody Nova". He said gesturing with his hand towards Melody and looking into the eyes of the people one after the other. No one dares to say a word as the room became dead silent.

After a minute went by without uttering a word he continued, "She is my new Secretary. From this moment onward you all take orders from her. Her words are my words. Whoever disobeys and disrespects her disrespects me and will be punished severely if not sacked. If she finds you incompetent and fires you, know that you are fired for good.

I will not tolerate gossip, you are not paid to gossip in my company but for the work you do. If you are caught gossiping you will be fired with immediate effect.

Before you get to me, you must receive permission from her. In the case where she is unavailable, you know who else you can go to". He said and they all nodded simultaneously to his words.

They all sat and listened attentively like some school children listening to their teacher in a classroom afraid they will miss something important if they swayed their focus even for a second.

Still having his eyes on them he said, "That is all I have to tell you, you all return to your posts".

This was when Melody turned to him as if trying to get something from his face. 'Didn't he see that everyone had at least a billion questions to ask? So why is he so indifferent towards their thoughts?'

Damian turned around only to see her questioning gaze on him. "Is there any problem, Secretary Nova?" he asked with an amused smirk.

Melody stared and glared at him for a while before she shook her head in denial. "No. There's no problem at all President Frost". She replied and moved aside for him to pass.

Ezekiel, Lloyd, and everyone inside the room saw this and we were astonished. Damian Frost was being challenged by a woman right before his eyes and he did not get offended.

Damian walked out as everyone stood to their feet until he was out of the door with Melody following behind him not caring about what anyone was thinking.

Everyone inside the meeting Turned their attention to Ezekiel and Lloyd and the room instantly became noisy with everyone throwing questions at them seeking some explanation for the information that they have just received.

"If she is the new secretary then what are you to president frost, Mr. Reign, and Mr. Asher?' One of the people asked.

"Since when has she and President Frost known each other?" another asked and everyone else chimed in as they heard this question.

They were all interested to know if one day she will be introduced to them again as their lady boss.

She looked like a simple person whom they could easily approach. Their president was impossible to reach and a second Person of the same standing as him should be good.

Lloyd and Ezekiel stood and listened to them throwing questions at them and decided to answer some of them to kill their curiosity a little bit. Lloyd turned to Ezekiel, "You got this bro". He said and Ezekiel glared at him. Why was he leaving him alone to deal with it?

He turned back to the people at the front and began talking after gesturing with his hands for them to be silent. "Lloyd Reign and I are both directors of Starlight. We have just handed everything that concerns being a secretary to Miss Nova, we are not leaving Starlight.

And for how long they may have or may have not known each other is not in our position to tell you or your position to know". Ezekiel said and everyone agreed and didn't ask any more questions.

When he and Melody were inside his office, he stopped a few feet away from the door and waited. When Melody finally got in he smiled at her before asking, "What were you thinking in there? No one is here now feel free to say it".
