Jasper’s helplessness
Abigail was discharged the next day. She was alone at home as Christopher left for work. She decided to talk to Jasper and called him.
The call was answered just before the ring was about to end, and Jasper's solemn voice came out of the phone.
"Hello…"
Abigail had expected reassurance and support from him, especially given the recent attacks she had faced. She had anticipated that he would inquire about her well-being and assure her that he was doing all possible to find the perpetrators of her attack. But nothing of the sort had occurred. It left her perplexed and dubious.
"Hi, Jasper," she greeted him. "How are you doing?"
"Uh… It's a little complicated here. But don't be concerned. I'll manage everything." Jasper's voice, which was typically powerful and confident, had a tiredness and lethargy to it, which set off alarm bells in Abigail's thoughts.
