He picked up the second present and tore off the wrapping paper. “Aww!” The Pitneys had sent him a micro SD card for his cellphone—so that was why Mrs. Pitney had asked what phone he was using now—and an Amazon gift card that would allow him to load a ton of music on it. They were the best people, and his mom would have been happy to know he’d wound up with them, although she would have hit his brother upside the head for putting Parrish in a position like that.
The English muffins popped up, and he set aside the SD card and its adapter. He’d transfer his music files from his laptop to it after breakfast. Once that was done, he’d install it into his phone.
In spite of his care in taking the English muffins from the toaster, he wound up burning his fingers. “Shoot.” He sucked on them, held them under cold water, and finally blew on them. “That’s better.” He dried his hands.
