Three Days from the Present Time!

"The war is around the corner. It could be three years from now or as long as ten or more years ...it is based on how fast the nights occupy the daylight completely. "

It was a stranger talking to his adopted parent, Ralph, the scavenger who rescued him from the wet battle land after his mother had left him there.

"I heard the princess has eloped and unless she is found, there would be no alliance between the Queen and the Mortals for the army."

The stranger continued with his banter. Ruqui still could not recognize who exactly the man was.

But listening to his talks and the amount of information he had from the palace, it seemed like he was from the town and nowhere from their village that was almost not connected to the mainland.

"Alright, will keep a look...sure do not want to stay over for dinner? The supper is almost ready."

Two days from the Present Time!

"Why did you call me?"

She questioned. Cynthira had asked her to meet her brother in the cattle rearing field and although hesitant at first, she chose to go ahead and meet up, sneaking away from being with the girls.

"I saw you last night peeking through the window..."

And the moment Ruqui mentioned about last night, she had suspected that he would bring that up or could be he call her to confirm only about that...it was clear at the moment.

"I was closing the window."

"You are lying."

Ruqui caught her right away as her tongue slipped. She looked away from his scrutinizing gaze all over her face.

"You have no proof to state me of lying about it."

"You heard Ralph conversing with that stranger, didn't you?"

Ruqui insisted. He was not letting it go. Ramirez seemed uncomfortable. She should have known that he had seen her last night and would be wanting answers from her mouth.

"If you could not hear it all, what made you think that I could listen to them being a yard away?"

Ramirez tried to make him see that there was no way she could have heard it all and it got Ruqui to smirk at her. She gave him a clueless look. Why was he smirking at her?

"And you said you were only closing the window..."

She was caught in a lie right away. Then and there. Her face became red and she could not match her eyes with his.

"I do not understand the need for lying about it to me."

Ruqui shook his head in dismissal.

One day from the Present Time!

"Young boy, you tainted the name of my daughter and made her the talk of the village by secretly pursuing her..."

It was Ramirez's father. He was a dark-skinned man, authoritative, and even taller than Ruqui himself.

"What? I never pursued your daughter..."

Ruqui defended himself.

"Stop lying!"

"Im not. You can ask her...tell him, Ramirez. That nothing is going on between the two of us...tell him yourself."

Ruqui quickly interrupted the man to justify his claims. He was in no way going to be punished for something as patty as that for a damn rumor.

True to what Ramirez had told him that the village fellow literally had nothing worthwhile to do but create a rumor out of everything and anything.

Having been lived here for the past fifteen years, he had come to know of it. But he could not comprehend that it would spread so fast.

He turned to Ramirez for help. Of course, she would not want to be married to him either.

They had no romantic relationship between them as these people were mistaking it to be.

Ramirez remained silent for a while, not responding right away. Ruqui kept looking at her expectedly that she would stand by him and deny such allegations.

But what she told them in the next instant, blew his mind off.

"You must not be afraid of him...be honest and we are with you."

It was the short woman, similar looking to Ramirez and he assumed it to be the mother. She was standing, holding onto her daughter's shoulder for support.

"It is true..."

When she started, Ruqui breathed in relief. Finally, these idiot people would come to know that it was all just a mere rumor and nothing else.

"True...that he kept pursuing me."

And the bomb was dropped. Ruqui could not believe that she just lied to his face.

"He also asked his sister to make me go meet him in the grazing ground where nobody visited...he wanted to keep us a secret..."

"What? Why are you lying?"

Ruqui could not stand still and listen to her lying every bit of it. Ramirez did not look into his eyes.

Back and Forth between the Present Time!

He woke up in the morning.

She did too...

He stared down at his family once...and she traveled down to her mother's chambers, barefoot.

One last look was all that it took...without further delay, he headed out, trying to make the least possible noise.

She watched her mother rest on the Queen sized bed, with her eyes open.

That was how the Vampire Queen slept. For any outsider, it would be as if she was wide awake.

Parting her gaze from it, she turned around to leave. Going back to her part of the chamber, the guards bowed their heads down to her. She closed the door behind her.

Picking up his cattle stick, he finally stepped out of the small house. The morning mist clouded the air. Nobody, not even one living soul was awake.

She wore the red cloak, tying it to her body, and then walked up to the balcony. The cold morning breeze hit her face.

Standing up on the railing, she turned around such that her back was facing the outside and her front to the room.

He looked at the sheep and settled in their stable. He walked away without taking them with him this time, his figure disappearing in the morning mist.

And her jumping down from the terrace, with eyes closed and as she wore the cloak to her face, she disappeared.
