The Average DC Experience (COMPLETED)

One bad day is all it takes to send an average man to the fringes of madness, or so a wise, demented clown once said. But if one bad day that started with getting fired and ended with a meteor falling over one such average man's head didn't drive him insane, then maybe waking up in a fictional world full of monsters would do the trick? ... Are you sick of the usual power-wank, wish-fulfillment garbage? Are you tired of one-dimensional fanfiction protagonists? Have you had your fill of monotonous monologues and forced dialogues? Do you want to see steady, slow character development and power level growth? If you answered yes to all those questions, then congratulations! This is the story for you! ... I own nothing. The Unbreakable Barrier #296

Glorious Godfrey couldn't help but grit his teeth in frustration as he watched his warships fall one the other, gunned down by the energy canons rapidly firing from within the city's energy field.

Though he hated to admit it, the humans had created quite a formidable fortress. The energy shield protected the city's infrastructure from the assault while allowing the various machines and weapons to fire without hindrance, making it impossible to attain victory with sheer firepower alone.

Naturally, Godfrey recognized the technology the humans used and was more than impressed by how quickly they managed to salvage the Apokoliptan warships and use their technology to protect the city.

The humans had also improved the shield generator technology, which even Godrey could barely understand.

Much to Godfrey's chagrin, the city's interior was as heavily fortified as its exterior. Over the past couple of hours since the start of the raid, he managed to sneak several squadrons of Parademons through the shields, but the strange insectoid machines dotting every rooftop were quick to dispatch them.

"No, this isn't the work of a regular human..." Godfrey, his gaze settling on a young man floating high in the air within the city's barrier, watching the battle rage on with little to difference.

"Coward!" Godfrey exclaimed as he approached the barrier. "What kind of hero are you?! Come out and fight!" He said, trying to taunt the young man into coming outside. simply

"Well, well, if it isn't G. Gordon Godfrey...." Grayson said with a grin as he turned to him. "Does hate-mongering not pay well these days? Or maybe you've developed a liking for the taste of Darseid's wrinkly ass?" He added with a chuckle, the blatant mockery instantly enraging Godfrey.

He quickly took a deep breath to calm himself as he glared at the young man. "Throwing insults at me will do you no good, human..." Godfrey said with a scowl.

"If I were you, I would try to please me instead..." Godrey said with a sly smile, causing Grayson to raise an eyebrow. "The great one has taken offense to this city's defiance. He sent me to bring it under heel," He added, spreading his arms as he used his power, attempting to influence the young man's mind.

"Even in the unlikely case that I failed, the great one would only send a dozen more powerful than me to finish the job and snuff this pitiful beacon of defiance..." Godrey went on, regaining his smile and confident tone as he spoke.

"However, I am a merciful man. Come out, fight me, and when you lose and die, I shall spare your city and its people from suffering the same fate..." He concluded, pausing as he waited for a reply.

The young man paused at Godfrey's words as if to consider the offer, much to his satisfaction, only to break into loud laughter a second later, causing the latter's expression to sink.

"Bitch, you thought?!" Grayson said with a loud laugh that felt grating to Godfrey's ears. "You must be an idiot if you think your power would work on me and even a bigger idiot if you thought I'd believe you," He added, his laugh turning into a light chuckle as he shook his head.

"I ain't buying any of the bullshit you're trying to sell... although..." The young man said, trailing at the end of his sentence with a subtle amused smile, which immediately rubbed Godfrey the wrong way, reminding him of a recent interaction.

"You know, the only reason you're still alive is that I needed to test the city's defenses..." Grayson added, rubbing his chin in thought. "Why not? I'll put you in your place real quick..." He concluded with a shrug, promptly exiting the barrier.

Thousands of canons instantly turned to the young man once he was no longer within the barrier's safety and fired. He merely raised his hand, clad in a green ring, and materialized a giant shield that absorbed everything before breaking into countless energy beams, shooting toward a dozen warships and destroying them.

He remained rooted in pace, watching the dozen destroyed vessels fall on the barrier and break into many pieces, causing the remaining raid fleet's warships to cease fire instantly.

"Now, let's get this over with..."

...

Metropolis

Superman panted for breath, nursing the horizontal wound over his chest as he looked down at Kalibak's unconscious body. He looked around and couldn't help but wince as he noticed the destruction and the many corpses dotting the city's streets.

"Booster Gold, Black Lightning, Guardian..." The man of steel muttered with a pained expression as he noted the bodies of the city's heroes and his personal friends lying among the corpses.

"My friends... my city..." He muttered as he fell to his knees, desperately looking around and finding nothing but collapsed buildings. "Darkseid...!" He said, his eyes glowing bright red and his face twisting into a rage.

Before anyone could react, Superman retrieved a strange device and used it, causing a blue rift to materialize as three humanoid machines wearing his symbol walked through it.

"Send these criminals to the phantom zone," The man of steel said, coldly glaring at Kalibak and the other invaders. "And help the people..." He added as he slowly rose to his feet and flew away without waiting for a reply.

"I don't like the sound of this..." Super Boy said after watching Superman leave as he turned to Kara. "Should we follow him...?" He asked, clearly hesitant as he frowned.

"No... anger is good," Kara replied with a sigh. "I hate to admit it, but it's better this way. Kal wouldn't stand a chance if he held back...." She added, shaking his head.

"We're both too hurt and tired to be of any help..." Kar said with a grimace as she held her broken shoulder. "Let's help save as many lives as he can for now..." She concluded as she flew into the nearest ruined building, straining her super hearing to find survivors.

...

Gotham

Glorious Godfrey was on the verge of going mad. Not only did he fail to take down the young human. But he also lost all the warships and the elites Darkseid assigned to help him siege the city, leaving him and his sister alone to fight the freak before him.

To add insult to injury, the young man did it all alone, making it look easy as he merely stood his ground, only retaliating when they attacked, waving his hands and summoning a myriad of energy constructs that would decimate everything in their way.

Not only that, but the young human even had the gall to ridicule and mock Godfrey every step of the way, clearly toying with the New God with cold indifference.

"I suppose that's enough of a show to keep the people's spirits up..." The young man said with a genuine smile as he looked down at Gotham's streets where people were excitedly cheering.

"You've served your purpose. Now die..." Grayson said, his fist shining in a golden light as he charged Godfrey, causing the New God to panic and throw his own sister into the fire to save his hide.

"Dmn you...!" Glorious Godfrey said through gritted teeth as he watched the young man's fist go straight through his sister's chest, crushing her heart. "I will not stand by and be mocked by the likes of you!" He added as he summoned a strange continent box from thin air.

"You or anyone else!" He concluded as the box disappeared, causing a golden helmet with a hideous green insect nestling on top of it to appear in the New God's hands.

Grayson frowned at the sight and instantly reacted as he flew toward Glorious Godfrey to close the distance, but he was a fraction of a second too late as the New God put on the helmet, creating a powerful shockwave.

Shielding his face as he flew back, Grayosn's expression instantly sank at Godfrey's new form as a golden cape materialized on his back, and a golden spectral Ankh symbol appeared behind him.

"Well, shit..."

...

Earth's Orbit

"DARKSEID.....!"

Standing on the bridge of his flag warship with his hands behind his back, the god of tyranny couldn't help but smile once he heard the anguished scream full of fury and resentment as a blue blur appeared, decimating half his fleet in an instant.

"There you are, Kryptonian..."
