The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

If I could finish something by hitting it hard enough I preferred that option myself. In fact I did resort to that kind of violence whenever we were on the road. I perched myself on the edge of the window with my legs hanging just inside. I left the window just barely open so I would have an excuse as to how I noticed the powerful elf coming. I had a feeling that he was just as good at concealing his mana as I was.

You didn't rise to the position he was in without any mana to speak of. I rolled out of the window silently when he arrived. Closing the window in the brief moment before I started falling to the alleyway below. My feet hit the ground silently. I was pretty sure he wouldn't have heard me come down from the window if he wasn't expecting me.

"I thought you'd be able to detect my traces," I sat down on the dirty pavement without hesitation.

"Why did you want to speak to me directly?" Malor looked down on me as I relaxed with my back against the wall.

"I'd just like to make sure you'll respect our deal," I rubbed the back of my neck, "I can't read you nearly as well through a proxy."

My mood was considerably better now that I'd seen my bonded.

"Have you any idea..." Malor stopped when I raised my hand.

"Some things cannot be discussed without the presence of my master," I was stretching my slave act as it was, "If you want to learn more of us then." I stood up, and offered him a piece of paper, "You'll have to agree to a blood oath, and this is the place were based."

"This paper is blank," Malor looked at me with suspicion.

"Right now it is," I smirked, "You can't see what's on the paper without my blood."

"I'm not getting your blood without a blood oath," Malor finished my sentence.

"Well you probably could get my blood without a blood oath," I shrugged, "But you would be destroying any possibility of future cooperation."

"Your master's offer of relaxed employment still stands," he stressed the word master.

"Of course," I nodded, "But the deal only stands as long as you keep our exact operation a secret."

"I've had time to think about it," Malor looked at me with a smirk, "You know the city lord is dead?"

"I heard he was decapitated in a one on one fight against the fox," I chuckled, "Wish I had a front row seat for that one."

The fact that I knew how the city lord had died just a few hours after his death while the city was still in an uproar, and before word had properly spread told him I was close when the city lord died. It insinuated my involvement in the city lords death without giving away too much. I reached over to grip his hand tightly. My finger nail extended slightly. Digging into his flesh.

He flinched but didn't draw away. It wasn't a deep cut, but his blood was now flowing freely into his palm. I used my nail to cut my own hand. I let my blood flow into my palm. It didn't take us long to bleed enough to create a proper blood oath.

"I swear not to reveal you secrets," we both spoke in perfect unison, "I swear not to cause you harm. This oath will last as long as we walk this planet."

If someone had seen this interaction then they might have thought that this was odd. Our blood was naturally infused with a large amount of mana. Our blood flowed up out of our palms, and intermixed as the terms of our blood oath was burned into our very blood. Pain flashed across Malor's face as his blood returned to his body. His wound sealed quickly, but he wasn't watching that.

He was studying my face as I failed to react to the pain the blood oath caused me. Blood oaths weren't unbreakable, but it was incredibly painful to break them. I had an incredibly high tolerance for pain so I didn't react at all despite the slight burning sensation. I guess slight wasn't the right word. This kind of pain would have made the average person cuss, and maybe even double over in pain.

To me this was nothing. I'd felt pain that would have driven the average person insane. I cracked my back casually as I stepped back. Someone might find out I could use mana from our brief interaction, but that wasn't my main concern. It wouldn't be all that surprising for a slave master to conceal some of his slave's abilities.

Especially a unique slave like myself.

"You look better then I expected," he voiced the thought that had been on his mind since he'd met me in this alley, "I heard you were slammed into a wall, and thrown around a few times."

"A bit," I replied stretching the truth a little.

I had been thrown around a bit. Just not as much as he expected. I handed him a small box that I produced from my spatial storage. Pretending to pull it out of a pocket in my jacket.

"You might need these in the future," I cut my finger slightly, and rubbed my blood on the paper so he'd be able to see the information on it, "Read the descriptions carefully. They're just as dangerous as what they protect you from if you aren't exposed to both at the same time. Read the description carefully before you drink any of those vials."

I remembered making that box as a sampler for the government of the different anti venoms, and anti toxins I was capable of making. Letty had disproved of this particular box because it was too detailed. The little booklets that described the effects of my poisons, and what cures to use. Most of them could be drank, but some were so potent that you needed to apply them to the skin or you would be overdosed. Plus the vials were too big.
