The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Binding our souls together for all eternity. It was something that had developed among dragons over the centuries of their evolution. Consuming some of their partner was the weirdest part of the whole ritual. Once that part was over you moved on to the first pairing. Becoming one basically cemented the bond in place.

I wondered if I could just lay here forever. I rarely got this kind of peace no matter how hard I tried. I didn't even know I wanted this kind of peace until I had it. I felt her heart rate pick up slowly as she woke. She started to extract herself from me, and while I was a bit reluctant I allowed it.

She'd already done enough, and I really wanted to take a good look at her now that she'd evolved to become my queen. Her crown of horns was smaller then my own, but other then that her body hadn't changed much. She had a gem on her chest now like my own.

"You should try taking human form," The words spilled out of my mouth before I could think about what I was saying.

"Maybe later," she nuzzled me with her nose.

Scooting in close to me while she wrapped her tail around my own once again. I reciprocated the gesture. Allowing her to mold herself into my solid frame. Part of me wanted to stay here like this forever, but the nagging feeling of hunger would force us to leave eventually. I imagined that she felt similar hunger to what I did.

Her stomach grumbled loudly after some time.

"I guess we have to go eat sometime," I unwound my tail from her own, and stood up slowly.

Stretching slowly to get all my muscles to participate before glancing over to Aurora who was doing the same. It was time to hunt, and there was a portal fairly close to where we were now. It was a large one, and it was moderately stable. The portal would remain open for another week if my estimation was correct. There was somewhere warm on the other side, and that promised a good amount of bounty on the other side.

I roared out triumphantly. Calling Aqua, and all the other wyverns to me. They didn't need to eat more then once a month so this would be the only hunt they would need for a while. Our own herds hadn't been established yet so we didn't have the meat required to feed them without the aid of these portals yet. The hoard of wyverns that came up behind us was eight hundred strong.

Yet they allowed us to lead the charge. The portal was big enough for us to pass through two at a time. We spread out slowly, and went to hunt on our own. As the first that went through the portal we had an advantage, and it was easy enough for us to find prey. We took down a large creature that resembled a Branchiosaurus.

The weaker wyverns waited until we finished our meal before diving in to snag our leftovers. It seemed they were doing the same to the other wyverns. I wasn't worried about it. Waste not want not. I waited until the entire group was done with their meal, and then it was time to return.

The whole hunt took barely over half a day. We went back through the portal, and we left the group behind as we headed back to the hollow mountain. Aurora, and I were accompanied only by Aqua. I landed at the top of the hollow mountain, and laid down in the mostly empty room. Aurora joined me a few moments later.

Aqua landed on the roof of the hollow mountain. She would come down to seek attention from me eventually. She was my pet after all. It was only natural for her to seek the attention of her master. Ethan came straight to the throne room as soon as we returned.

He looked like he'd been shoved into the ground, and held there. He was starving, and his hair was a mess. Thankfully he didn't have very much hair so if you ignored the dirt it was pretty obvious he wasn't hurt.

"What happened to you?" I cocked my head curiously.

"Letty," Ethan snapped.

"Did he hold you down the whole time I was gone?" I dropped my wing over Aurora as she snuggled up to me affectionately.

"What do you think?" Ethan shouted, "You were getting hurt, and he stopped me from going to you. I didn't react well."

Then Ethan froze as if remembering something else. His face turned beet red a second later. The fact that he knew exactly what condition my body was in turned out to be a negative. It seemed he'd experienced our deflowering as well. I smirked.

"What happened after I got hurt Ethan?" I watched his face become just as pale as it was red.

I didn't know someone's face could be beet red, and pale as a ghost at the same time. I patted his head with my large hand, and decided that I didn't need to torture him anymore.

"As you can see I'm fine," I scanned through my other bonded right quick, "It seemed the three of them had blocked me out once they realized what was happening."

Ethan didn't have that option since he was a dragon kin, and not an ordinary bonded.

"Don't worry," I smiled at him as gently as I could, "That whole violent episode won't happen again, and I'll give you more warning the next time I decide to...." I stopped talking when I realized I didn't know how to end that sentence without announcing to the whole world that I'd had sex.

While I didn't mind the whole world knowing, I didn't know if that was what Aurora wanted.

"I get it," Ethan waved his hands to get me to shut up, "I get it."
