Chapter 3: Speech

*later that same day*

It was during the day at night and shin was making adjustments to his uniform, vahn was doing the same.

Something you should know about shin and vahn is the magic they specialise in or have the most interest in. Shin goes for straight forward and powerful magic; it doesn't use as much magic power as more complex spells, like on the uniform he is enchanting he is using self recovery and absolute magic protection.

Vahn on the other hand is interested in more complex spells that no one would think of, like a magic that he hasn't tested but is a cool idea of reflecting magic back at the person who casted it at double the strength.

That's why Vahn is currently thinking about what ridiculous enchantments to put on this. He already decided on magic absorption. It's a two way sword magic. It drains the magic of the person wearing it slowly to strengthen itself but if the person doesn't have enough magic it could kill them.

That's the first one, with the pace it takes magic he would have already recovered it. For the second enchantment it is more complex, he doesn't want one just for defence but also for attack, so he decided to enchant his clothes with 'Rashōmon' by using that word vahn can control his clothes to attack or defend and controls it with his mind.

Of course if he did just that when he controlled the clothes it would rip, so he put 'clothes expandability' to make the clothes stretch as far as it needs without breaking.

So not only will it get stronger over time it will also allow him to control it by his mind. In vahns mind this was a good combination although it would take a while for the clothes to get stronger.

After that he had enough for one more small enchantment so since he was going to be meeting new people he put an 'anti anxiety' on it just in case.

The next morning the Wolford household, Shin, Vahn, Merlin and Melinda, were going to the entrance ceremony.

They eventually reached there and people immediately started crowding them, they pushed shin and vahn out of the way so they could see the magi and the guru.

Shin and Vahn pushed past them and walked to the ceremony not really bothering with the crowd.

They were both walking and shin and vahn bumped into august with him making shin mad so he wouldn't be as nervous it seemed to work as well.

"Ah, um… hi, shin. It's been a while." It was a girl's voice. Vahn turned around and saw a blue haired girl with big 'assets' and a red haired girl who Vahn could tell was more confident by the posture of them.

"Sicily!! Right, you were accepted too!" Shin shouted to the blue haired girl, he then looked at the red haired girl and spoke in a clearly less enthusiastic tone. "Oh, and Maria too!"

"Don't make it sound like I'm not important!" The red haired girl, Maria, complained, vahn wished he could be as confident as her talking to someone way above her level like it was nothing although she probably had that attitude with everyone it was just nice for vahn to think if he could be like that.

"I was a little worried I didn't see you on announcement day… and if you're lining up on this side then that means…" Shin started speaking with a hopeful tone in his voice.

"Yeah. We're also in S class, mr honour student." Maria said with Sicily adding a quiet. "We'll be in the same class."

Apparently August remembered them somewhere and they introduced them formally as Maria Messina from an Earl family and Sicily Claude from a viscount family.

Shin then insulted Maria by saying he couldn't imagine her from a noble family. She then proceeded to call Shin an arse, which Vahn found funny, and he sniggered a little.

Maria then turned to vahn and started talking to him. "Who are you?"

Vahn, surprised from being called out, started stuttering until he took a breath to calm himself and his uniform, activating 'anti anxiety'. "Sorry a-about that I-I'm vahn, s-s-shins b-brother." It really sickened Vahn to say he was brothers with someone who made him feel like shit most of the time but he had to put up with it.

"It's nice to meet you, Vahn." Sicily said as she stuck her hand out for a handshake, vahn shook hands with her and the same with Maria.

Vahn turned to look at Shin, Shin had a smile on his face but that's not what Vahn saw, he saw that Shin had a sick smile on his face from the amusement he was getting from vahns social anxiety acting up.

After that they were ushered into the room where the shins speech would be made, Maria wondering where the magi's grandchildren were. There were claps when the students walked in which made Vahn feel a lot of anxiety but he activated his uniform so that it wouldn't get too bad.

Shin seemed to notice the magic as he turned to look at vahn to see what was happening. Vahn didn't do anything so Shin left it and Vahn was just after finding out that his uniform also released a small smell that calmed him down even more when he breathed it in so he had a bit of the uniform over his nose.

There were a lot of speeches during the ceremony and when each one ended the people clapped although Vahn was mostly trying to stay calm with the amount of people in a small space.

Then it was Shin's speech.

"Well, then. Now, the freshman representative will be delivering his greeting speech. The representative is the student who received the highest score on this year's entrance exam, Mr. Shin wolford." She announced.

"Yes ma'am." Shin said confidently as he stood up.

Everyone started talking about how Shin was Merlin's grandson, some wondering where the other one was.

"Then that means you're…!!" Maria said and turned to vahn. He started to feel more anxiety so he just nodded and buried his nose into the clothes He was wearing. Vahn wanted to up the magic, making it more effective but He didn't want to catch the attention of the important people here.

They might think Vahn was doing something and throw him out, that would make it even harder to go into school. He started taking deep breaths to calm down, the smell on my clothes helping.

Maria, Sicily and August looked at him curiously and worried about what was wrong but left it alone.

Shin's speech was long and he made a joke, apparently something never done before. Something that already separates him from the rest of them.

Nothing else happened after that and they then left to go to their class, S class. There were nine others in the class not including shin and vahn.

The teacher introduced himself and said some things they were doing tomorrow and then dismissed the class, vahn not wanting to talk to anyone so he got out of there quickly.

Shin went to call out to his brother but instead just told himself he would see him at home.
