The three of them looked at Chrysos with apprehension. This small figure that they thought they could easily defeat turned out to be a very formidable expert.
Chrysos watched them cautiously looking at him. "Weren't you all so arrogant before? Right now, you're acting like mice cowering in fear and you had the gall to call me a spineless coward?"
The three didn't reply.
The rogue looked at the paladin and said, "Rasoh, make sure to block as much of your attacks while Cran and I deal most of the damage. If we can't defeat him now, we're screwed."
"Got it." Rasoh nodded and increased the output of his Magic Armor.
Two more layers of translucent armor covered Rasoh's body, if the previous layer was already thick, with the addition of two more layers, his defense immediately skyrocketed.
But even though Rasoh's defense increased, the Divinium he had to use was also high. "Quick, I can't continue on with this much Divinium consumption, make sure to attack him now!"
Cran and the rogue stayed behind Rasoh. With his powerful defensive Magic Armor, Rasoh charged forward with the hulking steel sword in his right arm that was brimming with unreleased strength.
Chrysos frowned.
He needed to break through this somehow.
Chrysos charged up a strange set of spells in his left arm as he grabbed a vial with an orange liquid inside.
Is it Depyrium Tripyraline?
No, it wasn't a gas that is merely charged with Divinium. The gasses that Chrysos used might be powerful, but against a powerful source of Divinium aura, the charges will be removed and it wouldn't do anything at all. Plus, it's liquid. Depyrium Tripyraline is a gaseous compound.
It was better to rely on real chemicals rather than gas that he crudely spewed out with weak Divinium charges.
Come to think of it, Vedian Nacoris was holding back so much when they fought. It was no wonder why he believed that Chrysos had regressed.
Chrysos tossed the orange vial at Rasoh. It has the same principles behind the Divinium Recovery Potion that allows it to spread throughout the body, but this potion does something else.
Chrysos named it the Divinium Area Concentration Potion even though it already had a similar but well known version called the Divinium Control Potion. It will attract the Divinium in one's body and concentrate it where the person who drank the potion wanted it.
Usually, this was a situational potion if one needed to concentrate their Divinium precisely on one area. But Chrysos modified this potion and created a potion that acted as a weak Divinium disruptor.
And sure enough, it worked.
The stable armor that Rasoh had around his body became unstable and there were parts in the armor thinner than the rest. But that didn't matter. In Rasoh's eyes, all he needed was to get Cran and Alloseth close enough to land a killing strike on Chrysos.
When Rasoh was close enough, Chrysos punched him in the chest. Usually, this strike wouldn't do anything. But what shocked Rasoh was the amount of Force Pulse magic circles on Chrysos' arm.
The thirty magic circles on Chrysos' left arm released an extremely powerful amount of force that ripped most of the flesh on his left arm.
BWOOM!
"Impossibl-"
Pieces of cloth and flesh flew away in all directions from Chrysos' arm. But with all of that much force concentrated into a punch, Rasoh spewed out a large amount of blood. His sternum was completely ground into powder. He flew backwards like a cannonball, skidding down on the stone floor before stopping motionless.
Chrysos ignored the pain and used Angelfeather to block the slashes from the swordsman. Cran made a quick slice that Chrysos narrowly dodged by ducking down.
Chrysos used Earth Fist on his left arm.
Small rocks and debris covered his left arm. The abrasive texture of the rocks caused Chrysos to hiss in pain. Chrysos used the Earth fist to block the swordsman's slashes.
Cran executed a powerful sword technique that almost broke the Earth Wall that Chrysos made if he weren't paying attention.
He then multitasked and blocked the rogue's blades that were about to slash his face. But before his sword touched the rogue, he quickly stabbed behind him using the Serpent Sword.
"Predictable…" Chrysos muttered.
Alloseth was caught off guard. He tried dodging Chrysos' sword, but he was sliced in the shoulder. And that wound was enough for the venom to enter his body.
Alloseth tried standing up, but he immediately lost control over his body. "No, no, no, I can't lose like this…"
Chrysos raised his right leg and kicked the living hell out of the rogue's face.
Alloseth spewed out blood as he fell.
Chrysos stood up and faced Cran who was the only one left standing.
Cran gripped the handle of his sword with both of his hands. He used a Strange Tier Sword Technique called the "Descent of the Ocean Waves."
A powerful aura gathered within Cran's body like a raging tsunami. He took a step forward and hacked his sword down just like a wave's crest crashing down.
Chrysos retaliated with the Sword of Fortune.
For every swing that Cran made, Chrysos always managed to block it. Cran slashed multiple times as he advanced forward, but despite being pushed back, Chrysos was still on his feet.
Cran made sure to slash at any part of Chrysos' body, but it was all blocked. He couldn't believe it. The more he increased his speed, the more Chrysos accelerated. The more powerful his strikes were, the more powerful the resistance he met. And not only that, Chrysos' swordsmanship felt like the only reason why he was surviving until now was because of luck.
No matter how many areas Cran tried to attack, Chrysos' sword somehow manages to block it as if it was all by chance. But to block his strikes accurately for this long wasn't by chance at all.
"No! I refuse to lose to an alchemist when it comes to the sword!" Cran increased the power on his sword before slashing downwards. His sword's powerful strike was blocked by Chrysos once again.
Chrysos kicked forward, pushing Cran away before casting Ellron's Freezing Arrow at him.
Cran blocked the arrows using his sword, but when the arrows struck against the steel blade, the ice arrows froze the surrounding area of the blade, creating boulders of ice covering the blade.
"Dammit!" Cran smashed his sword against the ground to break the ice, but Chrysos was already within range. With a kick, Cran almost fell back, but he managed to stabilize himself and retaliate with a slash of his sword.
Chrysos froze the blade coming towards him and grabbed the ice surrounding the sword using his left arm. Cran tried pulling his sword back, but Chrysos held it so tight that he couldn't even make it budge.
Cran clawed at Chrysos' injured left arm which caused Chrysos to grunt in pain. Using his right arm, he swung Angelfeather downwards in a diagonal angle. Cran dodged this but Chrysos kicked in the stomach which made him lose his grip on his sword.
Chrysos grabbed Cran's sword with both of his hands and snapped it in half before throwing it behind him. Chrysos then dashed towards Cran using Blade Storm.
"Sh#t! This can't… be happening!" Cran dodged as many slashes as he could, but he was eventually cut by the sword. The venom entered his bloodstream which slowed him down. His armor wasn't that useful as it was battered and broken after Chrysos' relentless slashes.
With one final attack, Chrysos landed a firm kick on Cran's face.
Cran was affected by the venom, so he didn't manage to dodge at all and all he could do was watch Chrysos' foot land on his face.
Bam!
Cran fell down motionlessly on the ground.
…
"..." The crowd that gathered around the market silently watched.
Chrysos walked towards Rasoh and stabbed him.
"Guh…" Rasoh felt the sharp pain in his leg, but after being stabbed, he found out that his body felt extremely heavy.
Chrysos took a piece of cloth from the ground and wiped his sword clean. He looked at the lustrous gleam of the venom mixed with blood as the golden glint in his eyes slowly faded away.
Chrysos then drank a Divinium recovery potion and a healing potion. The terrifying injury in his arm that looked like it had been skinned until it was only one layer off until one gets to see the bone slowly healed. His tendons, nerves, and veins regenerated and repaired themselves at such a quick speed. He then looked around and took the Minotaur's heart from the ground before deciding to leave.
But before he could think of leaving, men wearing steel armor with gems embedding their armor and weapons blocked Chrysos' path.
"Sir, please come with us and offer no resistance." The guard clad in steel armor from head to toe looked at Chrysos calmly.
"What did I do? Those three were the ones who started it." Chrysos frowned. He just defended himself, so what's up with these guards targeting him?
"It's not related to that. Please come with us and offer no resistance." This guard had his helmet cover his entire face, but one could feel the underlying threat from the guard's tone. Not only that, his armor was more detailed and was of superior quality.
Knowing that he can't get himself out of this one, Chrysos agreed. "Fine, where are you going to take me?"
"Follow me." The guard walked inside the market.
Chrysos followed the man, unsure where he's going to be taken.
The guard signaled to the other guards to clean up the mess. The guards got the signal and carried the three men out of the market.
…
Chrysos followed the guard to a smooth stone hallway in the market where Nalkar's guards are stationed to prevent any danger from occurring inside the market.
Nalkar's market is huge. There is also a section in the market where no one besides the guards and Nalkar's guests are allowed to enter.
Currently, Chrysos was being brought to the restricted section for some reason. And because of this, he couldn't help but feel suspicious.
"Excuse me, but where are you taking me?" Chrysos asked the guard.
"You'll find out soon." The guard answered vaguely.
Chrysos shrugged and continued walking.
The guard soon led him to a nice looking mansion that had very beautiful lights outside. There was a saying among everyone, "The brighter one's house is, the richer they are."
So whoever lives in this house made from white marble and granite is definitely a wealthy person.
The guard opened the door and gestured for Chrysos to enter.
He did as told and when he got in, the red carpet filled with masterful designs of dragons and terrifyingly sharp mountains was a sight to behold.
Chrysos saw a man in the living room sitting on a cushioned chair drinking wine as he flipped a page from the book on his lap. He looked at Chrysos and with a warm smile, he said, "Veronica, you're back with our guest already?"
Veronica removed her helmet and said, "Father, he is the man that you're looking for. Be careful, he created quite a mess on the market."
Nalkar laughed. "It's no problem. In fact, I need something from you right here…" Nalkar shifted his gaze at Chrysos. "So, you must be confused why you're here?"
Chrysos replied, "Am I going to get killed because I trashed your market?"
"How are you sure that it's my market?" Nalkar squinted his eyes.
"You're Nalkar, right? Is this because of what I did earlier?" Chrysos crossed his arms with an indifferent expression.
"No no no, I just want to buy something from you. After all, why would I go through all the trouble setting up this minotaur heart for sale to bring you in here?" Nalkar held his chin with his right hand, showing the swirling pattern on his ring that signified time in the Divine Lands.
"Ah, you predicted that I would come here? That altar is extremely powerful.." Chrysos didn't find it strange since the person right in front of him is capable of prediction. Instead he was impressed by how effective it was. "So what do you want to buy?"
"I want to buy the smoothie recipe from you. All of them." Nalkar smiled.
"That's easy.. I can just-"
Nalkar cut him off. Not just that, I also want it so that you aren't allowed to sell them to others.
Chrysos frowned. "I'm sorry, but I can't do that."
"Do you think that you're in the position to talk?" Nalkar glanced at Veronica.
Veronica unsheathed her sword halfway to show the difference between her and Chrysos when it comes to power.
A golden light appeared on Chrysos' eyes. "Alright, where do we begin?" Chrysos laughed as if his life wasn't in danger.
Nalkar nodded and took out a contract. "Your recipe for this drink is quite amazing.. as a merchant, I need to monopolize something this good." The way Nalkar spoke made Chrysos feel how shrewd this man is.
After scanning through the contract carefully, Chrysos nodded. "Not bad… The conditions here are quite nice. I agree." Chrysos signed the contract using his Divinium and gave it to Nalkar.
"Great." Nalkar nodded in approval. "Here's your pay and make sure not to… wreck my market next time you shop. Alright?" Nalkar gave Chrysos twenty golden banknotes worth 20,000 gold coins.
Chrysos' eyes gleamed. "Damn this Nalkar is generous…"
Chrysos took the banknotes and bowed. "Sir Nalkar, I'll be taking my leave now."
Nalkar nodded as he watched Chrysos leave. Veronica followed Chrysos to guide him outside.
As Nalkar sat there alone, he said, "When you said that it's a great business opportunity, I didn't know you actually meant it." Nalkar turned to a man sitting in the empty chair next to him.
A man with a healthy white beard appeared out of nowhere. He looked at Nalkar with a laugh. "Honestly, I'm glad you agreed to my absurd request."
"What's so special about that man anyways? Is there something that I don't get here?" Nalkar looked at Heisch.
Heisch sighed. "It's a long story, but all you need to know is that he's a man that my family owes very greatly.. I just couldn't believe that a person that great ended up like this."
Nalkar nodded. "Is that so? Very well then. Why did you ask me to get him to sign that contract?"
Heisch shrugged. "It's because I know that he won't take it lying down."
"What do you mean by that?" Nalkar furrowed his brows.
"What if I tell you that the contract didn't restrict him? In fact, the money that I had you to give him is only going to boost him further." Heisch spoke with confidence. "And not only that, I want to support him from the shadows. If it was made known that I am supporting him, my enemies would definitely target him. And because of that, I owe you one."
Nalkar waved his hand at Heisch. "It's nothing serious, consider it a friendly gesture."
…
…
Chrysos left the market without any idea that someone he once knew was returning the favor.
